The tank, tank extensions, tail and under tail area are not painted...its a sticker job. Use a carnauba wax for protection and a microfibre cloth to clean your bike. Washing (with water, shampoo, etc etc) once a week is more than enough.Originally posted by mayank.travadi View Post

Sir everything you said is exactly how my feels are & my NS behaves. from the tolerable vibrations to the drag races at red lights lol. except that I don't have a wife on my pillion seat yet.Originally posted by vivek.m View PostGuys, I have completed 800 on the ODO and thought of writing a small review on the performance and ability of the bike. This is just a opinion post and I hope no one gets offended by it in anyway.
Performance:
800 Kms on the ODO is not a lot but from a performance point, I have witnessed quite a few changes after my first service (done @ 550kms). The bike has become smooth as butter, rev hungry and the throttle response has been awesome!! The maximum speed I have reached is 80 (mind you I am still in run-in period) and I keep hovering between 50-70. Gear shifting has eased a lot and has become smooth. Also, my bike has taken a liking towards my wife and behaves much better with her on the bike. The vibrations (explained later) are never felt and the engine sound is also bare minimum when I am driving her around.
Handling:
Just love the ability to flick through traffic and I have skidded only twice (have retained the stock tyres).
Vibrations:
This is something that cannot be taken out of a pulsar I guess. The tank, front faring, foot rest and the seats vibrate quite a lot between 3k-4k on the rpm. Once the bike crosses 4k, it is again smooth as butter. Also, I get these vibrations only after the bike has heated completely. Cold starts and a ride for the initial 15kms have no vibrations at all. I will ask the SVC to fix the vibrations during my second service.
On road:
This is a mixed bag, I have had people ask me from which country the bike is imported from before looking at the Pulsar logo (their face expression is worth a million dollars). On the other hand, lot of people provoke you for a drag on city streets. I have never done any street racing and will never do but I have had the R15's, apache's, baby CBR and even some phut phut bikes trying their best.
Other Problems:
The engine has the tappet noise that every pulsar has got. It is a faint noise but still is irritating as hell
Overall:
Just loving every aspect of the bike including the vibrations to an extent
My only concern is the tappet noise and hopefully it will be solved during the second service
usually R15 & Fazer walas like to provoke, also many Karizma ones. & of course our Pulsar family riders.
I also have completed over 950km on my bike & I'm not afraid to push it to 90-100kph+ at times. You shouldn't be either.

Well , mine does (so you can follow the same) . 2010 HeroHonda Splendor+ manual, page 46.Originally posted by mayank.travadi View Postowners manual says nothing abut cleaning the bike...
Cover the exhaust with a small plastic bag and fix that with rubber band beforehand . Use 2tsp ordinary detergent powder(tide, surf etc) in half bucket of water . Use toothbrush dipped in this solution on lower parts where dirt and grime is difficult to get at . Improvise spray with water splashed with mug from bucket , no problem . 2 buckets of plain water should be sufficient . Do this on a Saturday afternoon and let the bike dry off overnight naturally . Shine it on a Sunday (that's what I do) . No need for car shampoo .
As far as I checked my colleague's NS , it does not seem to have much exposed painted parts at all , so need for wax - wax is hard work to do
. Buy a bottle of waxpol liquid silicone polish (around Rs 100 and lasts long) and use that . It can be used universally to shine metal,paint,plastics,vinyl,glass,chrome,bike-stickers etc etc and also very easy work . Apply on cleaned dried bike with small piece of terry-cloth rag , let it dry a bit (it'll take a foggy appearance on the surface) , then buff with a soft old baniyan rag . You can do all this in your apartment's parking lot itself . Doing this every 15 days or so is sufficient and shall keep your bike glossy all the time
.

Microfiber cloth (3M being very good) will be available in car shops.. Also some stuff is available on SnapDeal as well....Originally posted by mayank.travadi View Posthuh? tank, tank extensions, tail and under tail area are the only areas in my bike which have "blue" color...do u mean the whole bike is just stickered?

Car Care - Buy Car Wash Shampoos, Cleaning Kits, Glass Cleaner, Wax Polish
The tank and side panels are painted fiber where as the black strip on the headlight dome is 3M stretch vinyl sticker and the yellow/red/blue part on the front mud guard is sticker..

Thanks for your replyOriginally posted by Pinaki View PostWhat you are really doing by wiping like that is dragging the dust (particulate silicon) on the paint causing microscopic scratches euphemistically called swirl-marks . Teflon coating is a well known scam and is likely to damage the paint finish . Read what your owner's manual says about cleaning the bike . Usual recommendation is to clean with an ordinary mild detergent solution followed by buckets of plain water . You can use any good shining polish(non-abrasive) after that if you wish . And , yes do lubricate the drive-chain and other parts that need it afterwards .
Yes you are right about the swirl marks. I also had my doubts about Teflon coating from beginning, I'll inquire more about this to be sure. The owner's manual does not say anything about cleaning the bike.
What kind of detergent or Shampoo are you referring to ? like Fena, Clinic Plus.. these sort of shampoos detergents can be used to clean bikes & cars ?
Anyways... I just saw today that my father has a My Magik Car Care kit - One of the bottle is "Clean N Shine Wax". Is that what I'm supposed to use for Tank & tail section ? or the entire bike ? Another bottle in that kit is "Dash Board Shiner" for the interior cleaning of a car ? Shall I use the Clean N Shine Wax instead of detergent/shampoo or even soap ?

I'll try & do this twice a month as you say. but for everyday quick cleaning & removing dust. we can just wipe the dust with a baniyan sort of soft cloth right

Clean N Shine Wax - its a wax polish.. as the name suggest its not for WASH so its not a detergent replacement .. it is to be used after wash..
After wash and after drying .. apply the product on tank and side panels.. leave it for some time, let it dry and then use baniyan to wipe it off.. use the baniyan to polish just like u polish shoes to leave a nice shine.
Dash Board Shiner - Can be used for the read mud guard.. it'll give new black look..

very much appreciated..
how about those soft cloths u get where those people sell on signals.. ??
and isnt polish harmful?
i mean polish takes off a layer of clear coat to provide shine but wax gives an additional protective coat...isnt it?
yes i new about the stickers on mudguard and head light...Originally posted by thegeneboy View PostMicrofiber cloth (3M being very good) will be available in car shops.. Also some stuff is available on SnapDeal as well....

I never wipe the bike , wet or dry whatever - when it gets too dusty I wash & shine it . That way you'll never get those micro-scratches . If you really feel the urge to wipe, gently run a wet soft clean cotton cloth(or good genuine microfiber) without using any pressure on itOriginally posted by broken87 View Post.. Agreed . remember that all shampoo is just detergent . Any common household detergent can be used . I use amway-LOC or tide , surf, ezee etc whatever is handy . The manufacturers or owner's manuals doesn't call for any special shampoo or wipe-cloth or polish etc . If it was necessary, they would have - I feel .Originally posted by thegeneboy View PostUser can your small quantity of detergent or Clinci Plus.. works wonders.. .
Soap is good , it's even gentler than detergents - but doesn't work well on a really dirty bike(monsoon mud) or greasy grime (near chain etc) .Originally posted by broken87 View PostThanks for your reply

Avoid those microfiber lookalike cloths like plague ! Those are cheap synthetic fiber cloth , very scratchy . Ask mum for old baniyan etc soft well-laundered pure cotton cloth - I'm sure you'll get stocked up for yearsOriginally posted by mayank.travadi View Posthow about those soft cloths u get where those people sell on signals.. ??

Yes , the word polish that we commonly & wrongly use (instead of shine) , means an abrasive polish that takes off a micro layer of paint . Avoid those . Yes, carnauba wax polish is very good for painted surface , but I didn't see any painted surface on the Pulsar NS other than the frame & engine parts . All else seems to be plastic and stickers . So where are you going to use wax ? Wax does zilch(zero) on plastic .
The waxpol silicone polish I mentioned is a shine - made in India , available everywhere cheaply, harmless(non abrasive), gives a great shine and usable on all kinds of surface - even wood . All herohonda authorised service here uses this only .
Other than that , if your wallet needs some cleaning too - exotic shampoos , clay , super-fine wipe cloths like microfiber, fine chamois leather , pure white edible carnauba wax based polishes , paint protections etc etc are loaded on shop shelves and the inter-net shopping sites
, running thousands of rupees . Car care & detailing is a lucrative worldwide market loaded with gullible buyers .
The important thing in motorcycle maintenance is to follow a easy way , do that with regularity and enjoy doing it , rather than stock up stuff you'll seldom use IMHO
.

the whole tank, tank extensions tail everything is fibre...only the frame and engine and other vital components are metal
so wax does no good on painted fibre parts??
for the black plastic parts will get the dashboard polish...
and i guess i'll just remove the existing cloth and take an old cotton baniyan and cut in in square to keep it in my bike to gently wipe off the dust(is that cloth perfect for all the jobs? )....will get microfibre if possible..
are you sure things like ezze, soaps and normal shampoo work? how about baby shampoo??
so just every 2 weeks go down to parking area with a bucket of water and another small platic bucket or may be a small plastic box
mix in detergent and water...
pour clean water on bike..
take a cotton baniyan cloth dip it in detegent solution and wipe the bike with it and use a brush for non painted dirty places and then again pour water leave to dry..may be overnight(wont a wet bike gather dust??) or go for a quick ride to dry the bike or softly pat the bike with the cloth to dry
then shine the bike...
any step wrong??
so even the companies use the word "polish" wrong?
arent those waxpol polish, motomax liquid polish, formula1 wax polish....are they polish or wax?
how to differentiate?Pulsar 200NS parts list

I'm planning to undertake a good long ride on my NS. Those into touring, how many kilometers can I ride my bike at a stretch at speeds above 85? And how long should I let it cool down? My bike's completed 3300 kms and this is the second long ride.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.
