Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Thanks 4 that.. that actually makes sense . Why didn't I think of it in the first place.. just to clarify. What happens to commuter bike tyres. That's ur splendors and all.. I have used a splendor previously. But may be it because I didn't really look for this. ..Originally posted by Ivin View Post

No way yar. we all have used many lower segment bikes before, but none of mine worn out like this, on pulsar or rx... but why on metzelers / 390?Originally posted by backlash4u View PostThanks 4 that.. that actually makes sense . anyway i made a call to the most experienced 390 mechanic in kerala, and he said, till now no 390 customer has reported this problem.
he also added if its a problem, can be due to wheel bearings, rubber in hub or swing arm... But what @Ivin said, makes sense and i have read same in road construction chapters in civil engineering text of my friend.
But why is it that we noted this now on this bike and never before? not even on 4 wheels? even if not rotated periodically we never see more wear on right side tyres...
@Adarsh_Bk is that your bike's tyre? damn? you got serious guts, yar. that silver steel lines have just begun to show up on my tyre and im ****ing scared. if 200 and 390 have same tyre specs i think mrf is economical choice. mets are double the mrf's rate. how ever they reduce mets is costly.
michelin is not making anything for this bike and upsizing is a bad idea. even if they make, they will price it equal or higher than metz...
they wanna show their michelin by its price...as always.
As of now, im thinking of rotating the rear tyre and using it in opposite direction, so that i can use the other side, as it gives more time to buy new tyre.I'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.

Deleted the mail)
Indian roads are not straight. Its somewhat like the pic I posted here. So when a bike goes through this path , the right side of the tyre has more pressure applied on it than the left side. So that side of the tyre will wear a little faster than the other side. If Indian traffic was in the opposite way as it is now, the left side of the tyre would worn faster. This is the reason I got from them. I still don't know how much is it true. Governments do this to not let water stay on the centre of the road. If you observe carefully, you can understand this too. Most of them thinks this is their bikes problem. But I believe its not.
Nice....
makes perfect sense, but I would not completely agree on the worn out of that tires there must be some problem with the bike of @Legend Racer.
mate get your bike checked before you change the tires.
Guys No ECU maps for Duke coming to India :-(

Don't rotate the rear tyre and use as these are uni-direction tyre which should always be used in one direction and using it otherwise might effect the gripOriginally posted by Legend Racer View PostNo way yar. we all have used many lower segment bikes before, but none of mine worn out like this, on pulsar or rx... but why on metzelers / 390?

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
One thing is these Metz are very soft, and most bikes dont have tyre profile as round as duke. Also the tyre is wider hence easy to observe the unevenness. If you look at commuter bikes, they are more flat and it makes very difficult to observe this uneven wear on naked eye. if you measure the wear in millimeters, I am sure you will find right has worn more than left. In case of 4 wheelers, the car will be flat on the road so no uneven wear occurs.Originally posted by Legend Racer View Post

Oh, and the pic wasnt my tyre
, it was in posted in our 390 group.
I think there is nothing for you to worry about this wear, as it looks the same in that pic too.

I am about to complete 5k kms now so don't see any of these in your pictures in my tyre . Even I don't ride hard in cities but on smooth highways I ride Duke like "Duke".Originally posted by Legend Racer View Post@Adarsh_Bk @krish2778 @nelson_sanjoy
My bike is 9.6k now, and using it for daily commute. the rear has given up. totally losing rear even at 20km/hr. i gave the best care to tyres, i could. trust me. im simply amazed at the way this tyre has deteriorated. at 9000 kms, rear tyre is dead. managed till now, ( 9.6k ). no headaches like tyre punctures till now. no hard accelerations and my chain sprockets are better than some bikes that are just 5000 kms. i ride it sanely and use gears rather than twist it to hell and brake.
i wonder whats the Rs/Km for this bike. some approx, calculations,
fuel - 25000
2 services - 6000
rear tyre - 8000
so around Rs 4 per Km. i will be damned. using a car like figo is more economical, i think. first i thought this bike is the limit for economy, from a car, but no.
what are my new tyre options. going the economical way. i cant spend on metzelers, how ever worth they are, as im not on a race track or racing with others.
I was told by the KTM service head that 10-12K is the life of the Metz tyres so I guess your tyre is quite near for replacement.
And speaking of the options & seeing your use , D200 MRF's are good.
@Beru is using Ralco tyre ,not sure of what he thinks of it
& I am told in the other Bhp thread that some Pirelli has been released which fits Duke well.
I am on lookout of some offroad tyres which I would use for some rides - yet to find one ... will update as soon as I get one.

My 390 has done close to 11700 kms and tire has still around 1000 kms of safe life left. Mine is 90% city usage and there are loads of small metal shards in the tire. But not a single puncture till now.Originally posted by Legend Racer View PostNo way yar. we all have used many lower segment bikes before, but none of mine worn out like this, on pulsar or rx... but why on metzelers / 390?

I haven't removed any shards till now though.
I have been searching for suitable replacement for rear tire, but AFAIK only MRF and Metzeler have the size that exactly matches with current one.
There are other tires from Michelin (pilot Radial) which is of same quality and material in Spotec M5 and costs Rs 5800. But it is of size 140/60.2007 - Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme

Dhoom 3 tire is a Nylon(?) once instead of Radial. So there is always a doubt on its reliability at high speeds.Originally posted by road_ripper View PostHow about the H rated (210kmph) Dhoom 3 tyres from CEAT? Any one tried it on duke yet? its 140/70 - 17 though, profile must be ok on duke rear

But, I heard good reviews of it and as you said, it is not of stock size but can be fitted. The rear will be lifted a bit and width will be slightly less than the stock tires.
I am looking for Michelin Pilot Street Radial.Last edited by riazmomin; 05-05-2014, 05:52 PM.2007 - Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme
