What do you recommend as a lube - gear oil, grease, engine oil or something else?

I find grease to be the best, but it will not penetrate much. So you need to lube every month.

New 20w50 oil will do..In this regard I find the KB100 manual quite useful .Instead of closing the top keep it open and slowly pull and push the inner cable to let oil get inside .

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try out engine oil this time.

Gear oil is a strict no - I tried in on my clutch cable and it become harder than before!

now god knows how, even the accelerator cable seems to have freed up!! dont know how.... pick up, acceleration within gears have definitely improved.!
Now my question is, i am thinking of removing both the air scoops on either sides of the tank... so wat r ur suggestions? the right one vibrates a lot.. today, me and my mech tried to find out the solution but in vain... somehow the right scoop is touching the tank at a particular point... the culprit was the hole in which the screw in the front side is fitted into (it is joint at the tank). he tried to align it properly but it could not be done.. the scoops fit, but it is contact with the tank and hence the vibration! i have already changed the right one 3times because it breaks off at the joint itself due to vibration... Now he has given some form packing where it is coming in contact....

what would be the ill effects if its removed? mech said it is no harm in removing it. but i am a bit worried that some parts underneath the tank may become visible if seen from the front if scoops are removed...

          plz help!

If you had not lubed it for some time, then rust forms inside making it tough to operate.Using thinner oils will allow easy oil penetration, and thicker ones much tougher to lube...In case your inner is tough to operate try with 2T oil then after a week use the engine oil...oil will seep from the other end..so take care, as sometimes while driving it may splatter on to your clothe.

            • i have seen many old cbz's without airscoops, i have even seen karizma's (old version) without their fairings, and even frankly speaking i had seen a F2 without the airscoop, it looked great..

Removing the scoops will not cause any harm, but will make it look a bit naked compared to before...you will get used to it after sometime...I think Gixxer had already done it....Most of the fairings now seem to be for show rather than function..I had removed the bottom scoop in my ZMA and now find the engine cooling better than before.

                • @All

Here's the funny part, today a different mech put the stock 97.5 main jet and sure enough there was no missing what so ever!! Just like what happened the other day when Abhi's carb was tried out on my bike.
The mech is damn sure that the carb is perfectly fine!!But ,if a bigger main jet is put the missing returns and yet the engine will be running lean on mid-range to top-end.
I then took the bike to ZEN and showed it to Mr Murthy and he was of the opinion that,it's not safe to ride like that.So now it's back to square one.
But at least it proved that with the stock jets the carb performs fine.

I was asked to change the engine oil to be on the safer side and i put the MOTUL 3000 4T PLUS.It's a damn good oil for the money it comes for!!Highly recommended.

Today at ZEN i inquired about ZMA taking a p220 piston and Mr Murthy was sure it could with a liner.
While i was there ,he showed me a imported forged 67mm piston for the fiero/RTR,they come with imported thin japanese rings and the piston kit costs 3.5k.Mr Murthy also has imported a liner for the piston kit and that itself costs another 3k.They are to be put on one of their fiero or RTR's.

                        • On Public Demand ( you know who that is) I have made the tuning rich by 1 turn & also got done lubrication of chain & adjusted the Chain Slackness etc.

Got 3.00x18 Spare tube, Put Brake Bulb & I am just waiting to find the Engine oil to get it replaced which I am not able to

Looking for 15w50 Engine oil from Motul or Gulf Pride & it seems finding either one is difficult & now I am contemplating on going for Shell Advance Semi synthetic 10W40.

1600kms of Road trip planned this weekend starting from Thursday, Can't wait for thursday More

@ gixxer - What happened to Carb you went to Inquire on Sat ?

Thanks for the info..For fitting the 67mm piston of the P220 only overboring is required and it will become 240cc...the stock liner in the ZMA bore can take it...If it is to be bored to 250cc a new liner with larger circumference needs to be fitted in the stock bore...
My query was whether P220 piston pin to Crown(top height) will be the same as the ZMA one...Since Mr.Murthy had cleared the doubt I guess one can safely go for it..
Thanks again for remembering, and the effort...

Your plug shows your engine is running slightly rich..there seems to be soot formation, and the center electrode is looking ok..so your heat range of plug is correct.
You can try making your AFR a bit lean if you are not a high speed rider, and looking for mileage...otherwise leave it as it is..
