DRLs are essentially always on (European vehicles), but we have a switch on all Indian bikes (with LED DRL like lights - ZMR, RC etc) so that we use them only when there is enough load on the battery.

Yes, that should be the norm! Similar to headlamps. It must be switched OFF always before switching the ignition ON or OFF.Originally posted by aradhya View Post

But switching on the DRL also turns on the taillights which I feel is unnecessary during the day.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostYes, that should be the norm! Similar to headlamps. It must be switched OFF always before switching the ignition ON or OFF.

Re: Hero Karizma ZMR (2014 version)
Yesterday during the bike service, the ASC guy asked me whether I use any Lube spray to which I said Yes - a Motul Lube. Then he said to me to avoid those things as they are for professional racing bikes (bull Sh*t) and require strict attention while cleaning. I actually use a lube after 2 weeks ie appx 800 kms and I first clean it with kerosine/petrol plus let the chain dry before spraying the lube. Still the ASC guys says that the spray is hardened near the rivets or whatever he calls them and it may cause the chain to jam regularly.
Do I need to take heed to this? if yes, can a degreaser help?

Re: Hero Karizma ZMR (2014 version)
On the contrary, DRLs/tail lamps if lit increase the visibility factor. Not for you, but for others. They can see you better. That's why DRLs were brought in production. Tail lamps lit during day would keep a few drivers/riders from tailing you too close. I feel that is good.Originally posted by sarkartheruler View PostBut switching on the DRL also turns on the taillights which I feel is unnecessary during the day.
Pay no heed. Lube the chain every 500-600 kms. Clean it during alternate lube sessions. Get the sprockets completely cleaned every 3-4k kms. Has been working for me for past 61.6k kms. Haven't had the chance to replace that thing!Originally posted by srikanth kvnap View PostYesterday during the bike service, the ASC guy asked me whether I use any Lube spray to which I said Yes - a Motul Lube. Re: Hero Karizma ZMR (2014 version)
Well, i suggested a neighbour of mine to go with the new zmr. And he did. He bought it two months back and its completed 5-6k kms. Out of which i can say 750-1000kms were done by me
I have to say the bike accelerates like crazy and the old zmr has no chance of catching up. Got a chance to drag on a safe patch of road with zero traffic. Got a chance to compare with the p220 as well. Hero finally managed to beat the p220 in both, acceleration and top speed after so many years of its launch. Lol!
That's one perspective to look at it.
A very major difference however between the new and old version is the sound. Engine refinement is not as much, specially when you rev it post 4k rpm. And since there are very less vibes, i guess the two points strike each other off.. I have to say am in love with the posture and acceleration! If only they had provided projectors
Asked the mech if the chian guard could be installed on the old one. He said its possible..
And its a surprise to know that the newer models are selling more in number here in bangalore! No idea about other cities though. Others could kindly update on that, as am pretty curious to know!
Also, is it possible to install an engine kill switch? And will that harm the engine?

Re: Hero Karizma ZMR (2014 version)
By sound change, i only mean the absence of refinement. If that's your case too, then its pretty normal. Cause almost all new versions which i have seen, lack the refinement factor of the older engine. That's honda for you!Originally posted by Naveen1985 View PostI mentioned about this sound change in my 3-4 posts but no one else noticed it.

In addition to what Divya said, switching on your DRLs, (hence tail lamps)also improves visibility for others during rainy/ foggy conditions.(red light traveling farthest etc etc)Originally posted by sarkartheruler View PostBut switching on the DRL also turns on the taillights which I feel is unnecessary during the day.Last edited by kmk0311; 12-04-2014, 03:02 AM.

Re: Hero Karizma ZMR (2014 version)
Abhi, can you explain me what is exactly meant by refinement of engine. The reason I am asking is, many places in this forum and outside as well I come across the term engine being refined . I understood it as smooth. But many places its written the engine is refined but has vibes or as u termed in your post, the engine being not refined like earlier but it has less vibes. So, could you explain the definition and difference between the engine being refined and engine being without vibrations. Just need to clarify my doubt to understand the discussion better.

Refined as in smooth. Add to it linear power delivery. Doesn't grunt in a coarse way like earlier models from BAL. Vibes are present in all engines. But they're almost nullified in most multi cylinder mills due to counter balancers provided for the very same reason.
On a rough estimation, rev friendly bikes feel less vibey as well. Most vibes occur between the 4000-6000 RPM range and once revved higher (where rev friendly bikes make most power) gives a feeling of less vibes.
Yamaha's R15 has counter balancers as well as a rev friendly mill. You can rev from 4k to 9k RPM without feeling any vibes worth worrying, if at all! But come below 3500 and you'd be pissed off!Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Hero Karizma ZMR (2014 version)
Thanks for the reply. So can we understand that a engine being refined is meaning to the engine giving a more linear power delivery and does not have that much of a Rubber band effect. Is my understanding right. Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Hero Karizma ZMR (2014 version)
May be because of refinement or something else but new ZMR sounds spotier and a bit louder than the old one.Originally posted by abhi7013 View PostBy sound change, i only mean the absence of refinement. Re: Hero Karizma ZMR (2014 version)
In other words, refinement is regarding the engine status only. Vibes comes in when you rev and the engine as a whole vibrates and depending on the quality of chasis or amount of fairing or whatever, you feel them too.Originally posted by emm View PostThanks for the reply. To know about refinement, try listening to the engine when its idling. You would feel it like running on butter, literally! You rev a bit, and yet you feel it is smooth. While riding, you get a smooth power delivery and uniform engine sound. Forgive me, but this is the best i can explain. Vibes on the other hand can be present irrespective of your engine being refined or not.
In case of the new zmr, i felt the harshness in the engine a bit, but, paradoxically, nil vibes. Which is good..
