  • Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155

I did not go above 74kmph during run in. That's at 5k or 5.5k RPM I guess, that too only 3 or 4 times. Otherwise I tried my best to never cross 4.5k RPM. I kept the RPM blinker at 4k just to be safe. Varied the speed at all gears at all times as much as possible, except if I had to rush to college. Even then I varied the speed as much as possible in the 5th gear within the RPM limits. Did the first service at 843kms. I was also experiencing a few false neutrals and hard gear shifts even fewer times during break in. Perhaps I was lucky in that matter. But after first service, no words to describe the increase in performance and comfort. And I'm now at 901kms, no false neutrals or hard shifts anymore. and plenty of power is available on tap. Getting around 48-50kmpl mileage too. Was getting only 42-44kmpl before first service.
And bro, reaching high speeds meaning? Opening the throttle fully at any gear during running in is a really bad idea according to the manual. And during run in I mean the FULL run in,that is, till 1600kms,not just the first service. The run in or break in period is over at 1600kms. After 1600kms,all restrictions are removed.
You see things vacationing on a motorcycle in a way that is completely different from any other. Google How to break in your motorcycle and you will find various methods. I followed the aggressive break-in procedure. Thats why so many oil changes.

Reaching high speeds doesnt mean opening full throttle what i mean to ask is did you touch speeds like 90 or more than that with gentle acceleration not with hard acceleration a few times.

Yes I had reached 90 once at 5.5k rpm during run in,that was after @Balki had replied to my post that because then I had crossed 550 kms on d odo and was mostly a highway rider the engine gets air to breathe and I can slingshot till 90 and then let the rpms relax. I touched 90 gradually and ensured that I didn't use any harsh acceleration.
Now my bike has completed 1800 kms in 40 days and mostly on the highways.Bike is super smooth till 60 and post that feels rough till I touch 80.After that I simply feel I am flying

I feel after the 1st service bike has improved.oil change has helped and I can travel for longer places with ease.as mentioned earlier my bike feels rough between 63 and 80.I am not able to address the issue whether the engine is stressed or I need to get the carburetor checked. Otherwise there are no issues.have travelled for more than 40 kms at a strech and the bike runs well. The people at SVC had provided with motul oil during service and did stress they recommend Suzuki owners to use motul only.

Tribocor Bike Chain Lube TC40 500ml AND Chain Cleaner TC208 500ml Combo | eBay

Thinking of getting this as it is not feasible to run to the service center every 500kms to get the chain cleaned and lubed. any insights?

As it is a non o ring type any chain lube can do the lubing duty very well.

I use mixture of kerosene/diesel + engine oil/gear oil to clean the chain. Just apply this mixture with a toothbrush and spray water with pressure and you are done.
As the service center charges Rs.100 for lubrication and cleaning, I just applied this mixture and went to the service center and when they water washed, the chain was super clean.
The supervisor just lubricated the chain and charged Rs.40.

I use the same chain lube and it works well. It stays on for about 600-700km easily in dry conditions and for about 400 in rains.

Does anyone bother reading the manual ONCE? Could save a lot of trouble later.

The Manual says "Can" ruin the chain and not "will" ruin the chain.
Anyway the mixture of kerosene/diesel and engine oil is not harmful at all as it is not a strong solvent which can eat orings and damage the chain.
Thinner is a stronger solvent, petrol/gasoline is a strong solvent; but kerosene/diesel they are safe trust me.
And the high pressure water wash may imply pressures greater than 250bar at the least which is not available at home or service centers(bikes).
we are not machines that follow algorithms. we can add our own intuition to the rules and act.

Well, you could add the details and specifics beforehand instead of straight up saying that you did so and so to your bike. Sure,I agree that "we are not machines that follow algorithms. we can add our own intuition to the rules and act", not everybody's intuition is backed up with knowledge/experience like yours. So please specify that only people with knowledge/experience must try the methods you are stating, instead of them getting a notion that they can do as they wish to their bikes and expect them to work properly.

And not everybody is willing to take the chance of "can ruin" or "will ruin" with their bikes. What you are telling you did, can ruin others bikes and probably will ruin their bikes if not done the way you did. So,details my friend, pass on the details.
