Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
5w40 would be too thin at higher temperatures I feel. Do not slip below 10 for a motorcycle. 10w40 or 10w30 that is!Originally posted by sandeepcf View PostI have tried
Mobil mineral oil 10w40 (500-1000) Nothing good about this oil.
Total Quartz 9000 5w40 (1000-1700) and (2600-2900) Smoother gearshifts
Honda Throttle 10w30 (1700-2600) Crispier but noisy engine
Mobil Delvac 1400 15w40 (2900- ) Covered only 30kms.....can't review this yet.
Summers, you can try with W40 grade oil. Winters can have W30.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Just wanted to test what grade fits gixxer the best(don't say suzuki has already tested and recommended 10w40Originally posted by raintree View Postany reason as to why you are changing engine oils at such a high frequency?
5 oil changes within 3000 kms? :O
) and also wanted to experience different brands.
Some of these used oils will go in my old Unicorn which has almost reached its end of life. so no wastage of oil and hence money.
As a point of fact Total quartz 9000 5w40 felt better and smoother than Honda Throttle 10w30. with Honda Throttle 10w30 the engine heated up quickly(day time temperatures are starting to rise in my place) and also engine sounded a little harsh which was not the case with 5w40. Yes you are correct- 5w40 is too thin; when I drained it it was like water; its better to stay away from this in summers.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View Post5w40 would be too thin at higher temperatures I feel. With Mobil Delvac 1400 15w40 there is a noticeable loss of acceleration and the engine sound became more bassy.
So oil grades 15wXX 20wXX may not suit Gixxer at all.
The last oil I want to test is the new shell advance ultra with pure plus technology before settling in for a single oil.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Buy a can of motul suzuki oil from the svc & get it changed at a local mechanic shop its the best for the suzukis engine altough engine sounds a little harsh with this oil after clocking some 20kms in the traffic it does its job well atleast in the city driving conditions.Originally posted by Adnan Manna View PostI'm going to reach 1600kms soon. I intend to change the engine oil. Which oil should I change to and why? Any pros/cons of the oils you suggest are welcome.
My daily travel distance to my office (to & fro) is 70+ kms some part of the journey is a highway ride type & most of the part is full of traffic but the bike doesnt heat up even after heavy ripping in trafiic for 30+ kms.
After crossing 2 or 2.5k change to semisynthetic oil from shell.PULSAR 180 DTSI- 2007

Is it mandatory to switch to semisynthetic oil post 2.5k? Or can one continue with the current motul 10w40.I have crossed 2750 on the odo and hence asking...Originally posted by truelypulsarian View PostBuy a can of motul suzuki oil from the svc & get it changed at a local mechanic shop its the best for the suzukis engine altough engine sounds a little harsh with this oil after clocking some 20kms in the traffic it does its job well atleast in the city driving conditions.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
No but the reason why people shift to ss oil is the engine feels much refined & smooth thats it.Originally posted by kypa View PostIs it mandatory to switch to semisynthetic oil post 2.5k? Or can one continue with the current motul 10w40.I have crossed 2750 on the odo and hence asking...

SS oils are known to provide best lubricating job on long rides in the city driving conditions mineral can do its best job.
There are some people in my city who doesnt even know what is ss & other different types of oils they just use the oil which is filled in the svc at the time of servicing.
Its the individual preference not a matter of compulsion if you want more smoothness & extra drain interval time goahead & pick up a ss oil.PULSAR 180 DTSI- 2007

Cool bike there dynamo. Feel that the gixxer which comes with with no graphics really is classy when compared to the FZ & Pulsars.Originally posted by Dynamo View Post
Here is my bike. Is anyone facing pain in forehands while driving continuously for more than 50+ kms.
Thought the Blue is the best looker, I feel white would be even more exclusive.
I had a blue TVS Flame before buying the gixxer, so ruled out blue and I checked which are the least selling colors in gixxer and then finalized white.
There is not a mandate we should use SemiSynthetic(SS) or FullySynthetic(FS) post a particular KMS.Originally posted by kypa View PostIs it mandatory to switch to semisynthetic oil post 2.5k? Or can one continue with the current motul 10w40.I have crossed 2750 on the odo and hence asking...

As per my knowledge, the mineral oils are best during running in period as they allow faster mating of the new engine parts compared to SS or FS oils. Break in period becomes more when FS oil is used from the beginning due to its superior lubricating property.
I would say post 5-7k kms, ie when the engine is perfectly set, we can safely move to SS or FS oils. The FS oils have better consistency of viscosity compared to the mineral or SS oils at higher temperatures.
Also SS oils give you longer oil change interval due to its superior consistency. But if your annual usage is below 7 or 8k kms, better stick to mineral as we need to go for an oil change either 8-10kms or 1yr whichever is earlier for FS oil.
Hope I have not confused you
Nice bike bro, but IMHO, I feel you could have gone for blue or red or even bright green to project the white's beauty more.Originally posted by Arindam ghosh View Postmy dual tone baby!

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Hello guys,
I've been following this thread since recent times since the commencement of my plan to buy a new bike for myself. I'm new to bikes and do not have much experience riding the same. As far as my choice for bikes is considered, I've shortlisted the Suzuki Gixxer and Bajaj Pulsar 200NS as the difference of price between them is just Rs. 15k which is making things all the more confusing for me.
What I've sorted out after reading all the posts on this thread is that there are certain common issues with Gixxer reported by many owners including rusting, paint chipping off, hard gear shifts, tyre wobbling, etc. So my first question to all of you...Do these issues exist anymore in your Gixxer...? Or have they been sorted out...?
Secondly, also I'd request all the experts here to kindly recommend me either of the bikes (200NS or the Gixxer) based on the fact that my maximum ride will be in the city with occasional highway trips, although the lesser mileage of 200NS (compared to Gixxer) won't be a big problem for me since my running is quite less.
It is only these issues relating to the Gixxer reported commonly by owners on this thread which is not very confident-inspiring when you have your hard-earned money at stake. XBHPians provide your insight please.
Just for info, I'm 22 years old with height 5'7" weight 72kgs, which won't be a problem driving/handling the Gixxer in my opinion...What about the 200NS in same respect...?
Also, is the performance of 200NS compared to the Gixxer so stupendous so as to justify spending an extra Rs. 15k on that...?
Please help me to make a choice by answering the questions I've written in bold. Thanks a lot in advance... :-)
