  • Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155

Completed 6300 KM and still facing issue with hard shifting (even after changing the shaft by Suzuki SVC during 2nd service)and sometimes the gear doesn't slot properly.
Difficult to change the gears in bumper to bumper traffic.
Takes away the riding pleasure as I can't shift soon enough
I'm on stock oil and bike is due for third service. Also no mods for the bike.
    Any suggestions?Thanks

I had been facing the same issue. I have finished 1.5k kms. What I have been trying is that I leave and retract the clutch just a little and when I do that it just becomes very smooth to shift gears.

You should not have this hard gear shift even @ 6k kms. Can you tell me any particular gear is hard to shift or all the gears.? Its better to take a ride any of your friends gixxer if any or ask your SVC to arrange for a gixxer that has done 6k kms. Once you take a ride you'll get to know how hard the gear shifts are...

Simple tip. This may or may not work.

Loosen the clutch cable ( both end ) if you have any special lube spray then lube the metal cable. Then fit it to its original position. Keep changing the clutch ply everyday & take out for a ride. Sure you'll notice some changes. If this doesn't work, better take ur bike to SVC.

I've just crossed 6k kms today on my gixxy. Gears are butter smooth. For me the hard gear shifts vanished before the 1st service. This is common in all bikes until it reaches 1k kms.
            Just follow my shadow.

Yes, I have tried adjusting the cluth ply and the gear upshifts are smooth at higher RPMs (above 4.5K). Shifting is hard on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears (when ridden under 4.5K RPM). 5th is very smooth.
But downshifting is always hard (making 'thud' noise). Don't know what's causing the issue
Do you think the SVC have not replaced the shaft properly(which they did during 2nd service)?
Also, I changed different oils coz of this issue(Shell AX7, Motul 5100, Motul 7100). Still the issue persists. With Motul 5100 it's bit less. Right now I'm on stock oil.
              Very frustrated of this issue

Check chain play and adjust clutch play along with it to required spec.

I could blame this and also how you completed your run in :P

I completed the run in as per the user manual and rode below 4.5k RPM varying the speed.
                    Also, I didn't switch to other oils until 2nd service i.e., 4100KM.
I think the SVC guys are incompetent at solving the issue and doesn't take my inputs and always defending that they are right. I had complained to Suzuki and got the shaft replaced before 2nd service.
Still after all this, the Gear shifts are cumbersome.
I'll take up the issue to Suzuki Customer care after the 3rd service which is due in few weeks if the issue is unresolved.

I have observed that the chain doesn't rotate on a parallel line with the swing arm when i rotate the wheel.
Also there is the 'tak-tak' noise at the point when the chain is not in a straight line with the swing arm.
It appears as if there is little misalignment .

Did you shift gears frequently during run in? You could stay in a single gear and vary the RPM and speed. This bike acts like a scooter in 5th gear :P

During run in, I didn't ride much in the city as my work involves riding mostly on open roads. I would say 75% on highway and 25% in city.

So you imply that you had your bike most of the times in gear 5? :P

Check chain alignment and slackness. Also lube the chain and observe. Also ensure correct clutch play. Moreover, the issue could be due to your use of synthetic oils when changing to new gear shaft. Gear shafts also require little wear to ensure smooth operation. Use mineral oil for few more kms and observe the shifts.

Yes, I rode in 5th gear most of the time. Does that have an impact after completing 6K KM??

You didn't complete the run in as mentioned in the manual then :P during run in, its necessary to shift gears as much as possible in a gentle way. This is an important part and takes enough time and distance to mate properly with rest of the drive train.
