He pulled out the overflow pipe from right side to left side just show me where it is fixed or not. He told me exactly how to deal with this problem in future. He simply started the engine in fuel off mode and drained all the fuel in the carb then gently tapped on the bottom of carb with the spanner. Gently means very gently.
It's the Float issue not overflow-valve.l

If gasoline is coming out overflow tube:

    1. Check the bike's orientation, is it standing right up or on the ground
    2. Check drain-screw : someone might be stealing your precious
    3. Stuck Float : it's spring loaded to block fuel inflow when float-bowl is full.

In your case, it's a stuck-float, a tap let it loose.

Took out my bike after a week due to illness. Rode for 31 km and I experienced this. Twice today, when I opened the throttle in 4th and 2nd gears, the bike felt as if it ran out of fuel and as if there was no fuel at all. The engine stopped for a fraction of a second and then it was a sudden surge. Glad that it didn't stop in the middle of the road or else vehicles doing 40 and 50 kmph would ve crashed at my back. So I checked the underseat and everything was fine and nothing blocked the air inlet. I stopped, revved up the engine after first time it happened and then it again happened for the second time too!

Happened again this evening! felt no response from throttle in 3rd gear. Felt as though the bike was shutting down.

                    Hi everybody,

I am long time reader and first time poster.I recently bought a gixxer and I am very excited about it. I mostly use my car for my daily office runs so the bike does not get too much use. I still like it alot and it only has done about 140km so far in about a month. at this speed reaching 1000km will take me about 6-8 months at least .

On a recent trip from china i picked up what i think is a copy of a Yoshimura slip on exhaust. I was thinking of putting this on my gixxer. But I dont want to cut out the stock one. Is there another way of putting it in like how they just take it out and put it in with those pair of springs? Another wild idea came in my head is to mane a DIY header from stainless steel tubes/pipes and the attach this exhaust. Then I can just remove the stock exhaust + catalysis converter + header and put my DIY header + exhaust. That way if I dont like it or for some other reason, i can always go back to original.

Another thing is will putting an aftermarket exhaust on my sort off new (just under 140km), will it cause some engine issues? I never go past the 4500rpm that they told me to. I am even thinking of changing the oil at 200 just as an extra precaution cause i read somewhere a new bike needs frequent oil change cause it sheds tiny engine particles?

Some suggestion will be very helpful. Apologies if i am too representative in my first post, kind of excited

Just one thing. No hotrods please :'( :O

Your excitation blinds practicality. Ride the bike heart out before hot rodding it. It's totally new, why do you wanna fall prey to these stuff :O

For oil change, stick to manual where maintenance periods are clearly mentioned.

This is common issue with bikes kept for some time. It might be due to vaccuum lock in petrol tank.
Simple solution whenever this happens, open your fuel cap for some time and start the bike (if possible with fuel cap open )
Then close the fuel cap and ride away. The problem will be over.

If it still persists, check carburator for dirt stuck or air filter.

Hmm where to start, Exhaust modification comes in many flavours the safest one being the removing the DB killer in the stock exhaust, next removing the stock slip on with custom one (as is your case ) and then full system upgrade (which you are planning by making the end cans , pipes and headers)

I will advice you against doing the full system thing since the exhaust pipe diameter and turns determine the back pressure from exhaust gases in engine.
So YES your engine might be ruined if you do this. I will also say that dont change the slip on too since chinese thing might not have the same diameter etc.

Also using a free flow exhaust wil burn of your valves.

Coming to your second query yes frequent engine oil change is recommeded but for that you will have to use the bike a bit rashly too. Your usage sounds quite sedate, hence there wont be a need to change oil @ 200km for you change it @ recommeded interval since when u go for first service the svc will insist on changing the oil else might void your warranty.

I know this feeling when we get the new bike our mind itches to do so many things to it. However after 62k + on my 220 and 12K on my RC390 I can say that try to keep bike close to stock since our local mechanics are not the best and over time you lose interest on the blingy things and just want your bike to run smoothly giving you peace of mind ownership.

Hot rodding is another term for bike/car modifiers.

I posted again that I experienced it again this evening. That wasn't the case. My carburetor is new. I don't want to touch it assuming that it's clean. It happens once in a while, out of the blue. So I don't think it's something persistent to tweak the mechanicals. I found that this doesn't happen when the engine is literally so warm after a good distance of riding.

The third time it happened today, the bike was completely cool before I started and I had taken it out from a mild shower. It was kind of wet, a very little.

Whatever the suggestions are and reasons to modify, it has never been beneficial and worked well in the long run. Since this bike is relatively new in the market, I highly doubt testing all these on it. Refer other threads and search for success rates in other bikes too. It's negligibly small, be it higher or smaller capacity bikes.

It works well only when FACTORY modifies it for races and make the bike track-ready most of the times. Not on production models, once again.

Thanks guys. I was also having second thoughts on the exhaust as it wont be very good for the bikes health. but the stock sound kinda sucks I wish there were any other way to change it. I rarely ride the bike so if the mileage falls, that wont be a problem, however if the engine dies then that will be an issue. I knew very little about this matter. I talked with a local mechanic and he suggested that hes customer put aftermarket mufflers on their FZS and Fazers. He basically cuts the exhaust right after the catalyst converter and welds the new one. He suggested as long as I put it on after 1000-1200km and I dont mind my km/l dropping from 40+ to 35+ i will be fine. I was kind of hopeful hearing that but I guess i heard wrong?

I did check the diameter and it is little bigger than the stock pipe. I have seen people put in slimier mufflers from local stores in their FZS/Fazers. Can you please tell me how does these things kill the valves and what to do afterwards about it? Also is it a problem if I only run my bike 100-150 km a month? I dont put too much fuel, I keep about 5-8 liters and I never go above 4500rpm.

On a side note I didnt want to put the muffler for any performance gain or racing. I just liked the look of the aftermarket muffler and the more low end growl kind of sound. In-fact I dont think I will be pushing my bike for top speed runs. my skills are not that good with a bike.

Poser value will compromise on the engine life. Still need this? Even if its 10 000 or 12 000 km old bike, it wouldn't last long, sir. Trust me. But if you wish to install it you can very well try it and share your experience with us. After all its your bike and you know what you want to do with it Just imagine, your mechanic said he is going to weld it which is even worse. Please don't fall prey to these visual gimmicks. The stock exhaust is pretty cool at all revs at present, in the market. It's just a matter of getting used to it. Also you hardly take the bike out, so why do you want a louder exhaust? :P Or maybe you find solace in revving your engine at standstill and listening to it? :P

Nothing will happen if you ride only 100km per month. Just maintain it well as per the instructions given in the manual. Moreover, try to improve this number and try to match the service schedule according to the km covered and not the time from the date of purchase :P :P :P This is not a problem at all though.

5-8 litres of petrol in the tank is more than adequate and I feel, if you keep your bike at home this will turn into vapors :P so please ride and enjoy the time on the bike! it's so smooth and breezy! Many riders just top up petrol for Rs. 100 and still ride more in a single day than what you ride in a month :P :P So, worry not :P
