Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
I mean he said he couldn't go more than 111kmph on open highway, I think that should definitely be an issue because it struggles after 120kmph and not before that at least on open straight road.Originally posted by bobisbacktorock View PostThe guy talked about the engine stress, not POWER. Power delivery would be there but the engine will feel strained coz it will be revving high.
Facing trouble in starting an engine after a long run indicates an overheated engine. Gixxer is an amazing machine but remember its an air cooled 150cc.
About my issue, yes the engine gets hot just after little time of high revving too. I faced it right from the beginning when it was brand new to date just after service as well.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Buddy, i see that the issue must be specifically confined to my bike, because i have been riding within the range of say 40 to 80 kmph for the last 10000 kms. (mileage reasons) Mostly city riding, say 80:20 City:Highway.Originally posted by ldkaj444 View PostI mean he said he couldn't go more than 111kmph on open highway, I think that should definitely be an issue because it struggles after 120kmph and not before that at least on open straight road.

It is only recently on the long ride from Cochin to Hampi that I decided to take her beyond 80kmph. I got her serviced, 2 days before my trip. Initially, day one, I kept the speed at 70kmph. Next day tried to touch 90 and maintain that speed; and on the 3rd day I went beyond 100kms.
The bike could go beyond 110kmph, But I observed that while maintaining 110kmph the engine seemed to be under great stress. I do admit that its a 150cc air cooled engine and there is a limit to what one can expect. With the kind of noise and vibes from the engine, i decided to bring her down to 80kmph. So that's that. I was just sharing my experience.
The larger point was that the bike is a jack of all trades, but master of none.
Not a commuter (no heelshift, slightly front leaning rider position, no pillion comfort, comparatively less mileage),
Not a tourer (had a hard time putting up the luggage, no option for tying bungee cords, difficulty in fixing a tank bag)
and...not a racer for the earlier reasons.
But handling the curves...that's what she does best! Absolute bliss!
Well! That's what I learned from 5 days on road with my gixxer.

Cruising at 80 km/hr is the way to go for 150cc motorcycles.Originally posted by Shyam Cmr View PostYea I need riders who could cruise around 100-120.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1.Why does it matter ?Originally posted by Shyam Cmr View PostWhat's top speed of Gixxer
2.What difference does it make if its 115 or 119 ?
Unless you life is on the line if you don't answer this question , i see no reason about top end.
If its just a query , i apologize. But if its another "my bike is faster than yours" query , i am out.

It's just a query. Based on top speed we can say safe cruising speeds that's why.Originally posted by RohIIT View Post1.Why does it matter ?

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Not necessarily, try to cruise at peakTorque RPM; i.e. 6,000 in Gixxer-155's case. Above which I presume it's waste of gasoline.Originally posted by Shyam Cmr View PostIt's just a query. Based on top speed we can say safe cruising speeds that's why.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Guys you have to remember its a 150cc bike, any speed beyond 100 its gonna struggle, it doesn't match the top end of the r15 but the gixxer is one of the best mileage to power ratio bikes out there. Also from what I've ridden the bike, its a nimble bike and feels right at home in the city traffic and conditions. If you want more top end , you'd need a bigger carboreutor , carb tuning, bigger piston, free flow exhaust, airfilter. The gixxer track bikes are 10-20kgs lesser than the stock version and have just a air filter ,exhaust ,the engine is untouched, it can do 130-132kmph.
