  • Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences

It's been a month since I brought my bike from Chennai, thousand lights Khivraj.

These are the issues I am facing right

1). Squeaking noise from rear disc every half rotation, I had my doubts on wheel not being aligned, so I asked one of my friend to follow me and check if my wheel wobbles as if it's bent, he confirmed it.

2). Every cold start I hear a harsh clanking(kinda metallic rattling) noise from engine while accelerating, it gets better after riding for a while. Yes I do idle my bike for a min (pulling the choke right after start kills the engine, works fine after a while).

3).There is flat spot in Rev range 3k to 4k to be exact where engine feels jerky as if I am running out of gas.

4).Khat sound from front suspension when engaging the front brake and pushing downward.(not sure if this is a big deal).

5). Bike leaning left(Service mechanic said, no bike rides in a straight line when you take your hands off , and I still gave my bike to them for servicing cause I don't know any good NS mechanic in Chennai.)

I thought things would get better after 1st service or in extreme case 1000 kms, but these issues are still there.

I even mentioned the alignment issue to khivraj mount road during first service. They still haven't fixed it.

No matter what, I still love the bike and hoping I would get things sorted out.

Riders from Chennai please do let me if you know any good mechanic.

2). Every cold start I hear a harsh clanking(kinda metallic rattling) noise from engine while accelerating, it gets better after riding for a while. Yes I do idle my bike for a min (pulling the choke right after start kills the engine, works fine after a while).- may be tappet noise.check it outside to a good mechanic what is that sound and then if he says its tappet then ask SVC to do tappet settings.

3).There is flat spot in Rev range 3k to 4k to be exact where engine feels jerky as if I am running out of gas.- this is because you need a fine tune of the carburetor.its also common on most NS/AS Specially the new manufactured ones.
Ask the SVC to do a fine tune of carburetor.if he is confused then tell him that you are having cold start problems .

4).Khat sound from front suspension when engaging the front brake and pushing downward.(not sure if this is a big deal).- common in all the pulsars.you have To live with it.I have seen multiple cases where it was fixed but comes back after some kms.so better not to fiddle with it and let it be.just make sure you don't hit potholes that fast.later on 2nd service you can ask them to fix it.I am saying this because its a brand new bike and best not to touch it or fiddle much with it.

5). Bike leaning left(Service mechanic said, no bike rides in a straight line when you take your hands off , and I still gave my bike to them for servicing cause I don't know any good NS mechanic in Chennai.)- again this you have to live with it.even I had the same problem but the SVC tried so many fixes but no good.however there was one guy whose issue was fixed after replacing the T stem.although its gonna be impossible for you to make them replace the t stem.

I thought things would get better after 1st service or in extreme case 1000 kms, but these issues are still there.

              Hi All,

I am facing a really irritating issues with my bike

              1. Gears are really harsh. I can't really explain how much I got irritated with this.. When I try to shift I am getting sponge feel and gear is not exactly going to the slot.
And the first gear the lesser we talk about it the better.

              2. I am experiencing a flat spot near 5k rpm.

PLease help me and forgive me for bad English.

Point no 3 is with me too. Recently, had those hiccups. Thought bike went to reserve, but it done 15 more KMs before hitting reserve. I didn't care as this did not happen very often.

Also, if you are not happy with ASCs you can very well send a mail to the customer care. Don't know about other areas, but in Chennai, they are very responsive. I had my rear disc locked for three times ( the last time it happened was the day after my First Service ). Frustrated, I mailed bajaj regarding the complaints. I got a call from a person named Asif from Bajaj. He had the service center replace a Master Locking unit ( forgotten the exact name ) and asked them to explain what they changed. He came in person to the service centre ( Don't know whether he came only for my problem or he had some other chores ). You too can try the same while you get a response from the forum members. Try their mail instead of their toll free number. I was asked to send an email when I called them.

Yeah true that, downshifts have to be handled with care, bringing all that huge torque down isn't easy. But on panic situation, all I could think was this as brakes would have surely put me down.

Being a owner of a 220f I broke my 3rd gear 2 times in 3 years from engine braking

I do not have an AS but NS but i get around 33 when ripping and also around the same when in the city. Strange but its true !

Will be trying the washer fix on the NS console tomorrow.
I've heard this so many times that the beauty of the NS/AS motor is its consistently high mileage! If i stay within city speeds, <50. i think i average 30. Ripping causes the fuel meter to slide like the stock market!

Hi Rahul, heard that you sold your AS? Really?

I shift at 4~5k generally. Hardly rise to 6~7 when im feeling adventurous. Still i'm getting really sucky mileage. I'm afraid if I tell this to the ASC, they'll start fiddling with the carb and screw everything up!

How do I tell if my carb is badly tuned? I've covered just 2000 kms on my bike. What is the leakage problem? please elaborate?

That is totally illegal dude. It is their duty to honor the service period. They are not doing us a favour at all. Talk to the Service or Works Manager about this. Make threats like i'll have to contact the higher ups in sales/service. See what happens.

During last ride I came to know that there was some part missing from silencer pipe causing weird noise. Can anybody send me pic of the part on your as200 and what price it may cost???

Hey! I have the exact same issue. it's driving me nuts! I did the same thing you suggested, but the my wheel seems fine. I got the rear disc checked my a local mech and he said that the rear disc may be bent slightly! Any improvement on this ?

2). Every cold start I hear a harsh clanking(kinda metallic rattling) noise from engine while accelerating, it gets better after riding for a while. Yes I do idle my bike for a min (pulling the choke right after start kills the engine, works fine after a while).

Sounds like tappet noise. I have the same, but you have to bend down to level of the engine to hear it. I asked the ASC to check it out, they said they can't hear anything!

Had the same. Went away as i piled more kms.

Have the same problem. The Mechanics looked at me like I was asking them an IIT question! tightened the steering nut, but no improvement. Guess have to live with it. Difficult to explain and equally impossible to get the ASC to work on this problem.

I thought things would get better after 1st service or in extreme case 1000 kms, but these issues are still there.
