tappet issue at such an early stage?. Just take it to svc and make sure what it is.Originally posted by VaruaG View PostHey man.. I had and fixed the same issue a few days earlier. The low beam flickered in the beginning, then will refuse to switch on 1 fine day!
The bulb is shot most likely.
My ever-present rear disc noise has returned. Thinking of living with it, tired of visiting the svc
Ticking sound from engine started. Most likely tappet noise. should I ignore it and get it fixed in 2nd service? (Which is many months away!) or jump at the SVC throats right now?

They charged you for the bulb? how much?
Its too early in the mileage for the bulb to conk off....I routed my complaint through Bajaj Customer Care, maybe that is why they didn't charge me.
I was furious at them (my Acting skills are pretty good
), i guess that worked!

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
Well, as per the manual it should be checked and adjusted for every service. But unless we tell them, the svc guys won't do that. For a new bike, the clearance may not increase or decrease sooner. If it is suspected, it can be rectified. Improper tappet clearance will result in noisy sound, loss of power, smell etc.Originally posted by xplod566 View PostJust wanted to know at what kilometers should we adjust the tappet.and also how does the noise sound like ?

We need to bring up some attention to them at times. This is simply not acceptable. When you are in for a long ride say hundred KMs off, what do you do if significant parts like these fail?. Expect to hold a torch at night rides?.
Because of the same QC issue, the RS alloy wheel incident blew up and still it is a mystery.

I thought so too, that tappet noise generally comes in at 5~10k kms interval depending on usage.
After much research online and listening carefully to Tappet Noise vids (specially RE thunderbirds), i can say with certainty that the tappets are loose
Kinda disheartened that the engine head needs to be opened so soon......I've not even completed 1000 kms on the ODO.
The SVC guys will disown the problem most probably, "Har bike mein hota hain Saar" dialog.
@jbm_guy : What if I run with the loose tappets for a few more months till next service? Any long term issues?

persistent metallic ticking sound from engine.
Any idea what noises arise from a loose cam chain tensioner/ timing chain?Last edited by VaruaG; 09-28-2015, 08:08 PM.

Mmm... Tappet noise so earlier. Strange. Anyway it's good to have it fixed. loose tappet will result in loss of power, mileage drop etc.Originally posted by VaruaG View PostI thought so too, that tappet noise generally comes in at 5~10k kms interval depending on usage.

Metallic sound, is your engine oil level showing correctly?. This tappet clearance can also result in the such sounds. I'd advice you to check as soon as possible. Don't worry about opening the head. It's only adjusting the clearance. Don't think much, just visit the SVC and tell them the problem. Also force them that yours is not even 1000 KMs old bike....

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
hey guys.. hope all's well...
my queries,
1. Engine oil levels:- oil levels are different when the bike is off and when switched on (have attached pics below). So which level is to be considered while checking the engine oil levels??
2. Coolant level:- The coolant levels where inbetween max n min before my 1st service. But after servicing the svc guysfiller her up above the max level (pic attached). So is it ok to run my bikewith my current level??
3. At 3000-3200 rpm in both 5th n 6th gears theengine seems to act funny, the power delivery is not smooth. There's somesought of power fluctuation (its not engine lugging.. Im not stressing theengine). But that disappears when I give more throttle (At about 3800 rpm). There is no such problems at lower gears. So what to do with this issue??

Bike engine must be switched off and you must place the bike almost centered. A center stand will help read it correctly. In your case, I see either the engine oil is too much or you have not placed it centered.

The coolant level also looks more than the limit. Try draining.

The RPM you have mentioned is very narrow to find issue.

1- put on centre stand before starting the bike.that shows correct reading.Originally posted by Tejas Jha View Posthey guys.. hope all's well...

2-too much coolant .drain it a little bit and should be between max and min
3-3000rpm on 5th or 6th gear is stressing the engine a lot.at such gears you should be on 4.5 to 5k rpm.try not to ride the bike at such Low Speed-High RPM

My bike is on center stand while taking the pics.
In 5th or 6th gear at 4.5 to 5k rpm would take the bike above 60kmph.. The user manual says not to exceed 48kmph (for 1st 1000kms) and 54kmph(1000 to 2000kms). I have completed 940 kms on her..is it ok to take her above the recommended speeds so early??Last edited by Tejas Jha; 09-28-2015, 11:47 PM.

Re: Pulsar AS 200 Owners Review and Experiences
I started taking at those speed post 400 kms as j think the manual run in is a very old method.yes you can do it.the only think you need to take care of is to not twist the throttle in a bliss.do it gradually and feel every speed you gain.Originally posted by Tejas Jha View PostMy bike is on center stand while taking the pics.

The reason why I call the Manual Run-in a joke is because according to them the engine should never be stressed hence they wants us to go at slow speed but on the other hand when you go on 3rpm at 6th gear you are stressing the engine so much that it's basically like killing it.
So drive the way you want only keeping 3 things in mind
1)Don't rev it altogether,instead rev it slowly and steadily (But till 8000rpm on 5th and 6th gear.1st 2 nd & 3rd gear shift at 4k rpm,4th gear 6000rpm)
2)don't redline your bike. That is never ever go post 8k rpm.till you hit 2000kms.this might seriously harm the engine.even one should never redline it even post run in.
3)Idle the bike for 1 minute every morning.Yes we forget about it but trust me if you do it everyday it can do wonders.Idling the bike in the morning also helps you in Run-in of bike.
If you follow these 3 things then you will be as happy as your bike.[emoji4]
