At the last oil change (3,400 km), I switched from Bajaj 10,000 tomato soup to Motul 3100 Gold 20w50, the plan being to move gradually from Motul 3100 > 5100 > 7100 as the kilometres pile on. At the same service, the coolant level was topped up by the incompetent SVC guys beyond the maximum marker (bike was on main stand).

Now, the bike seems to be accelerating slightly faster than earlier, and generally seems more responsive. However, refinement has hit an all-time low, with the engine sounding hoarse and vibration levels bordering on the severely annoying.

Note - the high beam was adjusted during the service, which involved a total of 23 screws (!!) and a lot more expletives. Since then, the fairing sounds worse than earlier, which could be partially affecting my judgement of refinement levels.

The front brake was making a periodic grating sound. The brake assembly was taken apart, cleaned and put back during the service, which lowered the severity of the issue. But the disc is still touching the pad (clearly audible) at one point in its cycle. Could this be a potential warranty issue?

The AS200 is a wonderful value-for-money proposition, sure... but goodness - Bajaj really needs to sort out quality issues. My fuel petcock fell off a week into ownership. A week!

    Here's the obligatory +/- section:

    Pros:

    - Excellent straight-line acceleration and top speed for the money. I've hit an indicated 131 km/h so far, and there's room for more.
    - Nice stability at triple digits. Calm ride up to 110 km/h, windy beyond.
    - Strong high beam.
    - Strong brakes, good modulation.
    - Riding position works well for me. I'm 5'9" and obese.
    - 39 km/l on highway rides, maintaining 110-115 km/h most of the time, dropping to 90 and rising to 120 occasionally.
    - Suspension hasn't bottomed out so far; main stand/exhaust rarely grounds itself.
    - Looks are a subjective issue, but most people I meet like it.

    Cons:

    - Regular Bajaj quality niggles (I also run a ten-year P150, so I've been there, faced that, lost hair, aged hard)
    - Unacceptable NVH levels for this price bracket.
    - Rider seat gets painful beyond the first 4-5 hours. No pillion has volunteered beyond half an hour so far.
    - The suspension is a bit too harsh for Calcutta's average roads.
    - The indicator switch is a joke. I need Hrithik Roshan's sixth finger.
    - 33 km/l in off-peak Calcutta EM Bypass traffic, including 70-80 km/h sustained runs.
    - Underwhelming low beam is a disappointing compromise between beam strength and spread. I have a feeling the P220's projector is better.
    - Atrocious turning radius; manoeuvrability in traffic sucks.
    - TVS management should be jailed for manufacturing Eurogrip tyres. Bajaj management should be shot for procuring them.
    - Engine note is a subjective issue, but it reminds me of a powerful sewing machine.

Hello and a warm welcome from a fellow Calcuttan! (Posted in Hyderabad, but home is where the heart is )

I felt most of your comments about the AS were spot on. I get similar mileage figures in Hyderabad too. People here are claiming 42~44 km/lts!
You guys must know some kind of magic yaar! hehe...

I ride quite sedately in traffic...generally below 60. Rip it occasionally to 80+ speeds for short intervals. But I hardly manage 30~35 km/lt.
How accurate do you feel is the fuel gauge?

I am able to extract 48kmpl during run in under 50kmph.
During trio from ludhiana to manikaran sahib with pillion it gives me a mileage of 43kmpl. Speed under 70kmph.

One thing is sure that it always gives me mileage of 35kmpl(city /highway). When i put pressure on the throttle it gives me 32kmpl.

Seriously!! Under 70kmph !! You should have great control over your wrist. We twist the wrist and vrooom 90kmph to start!!
With stock euroslips I got 34 and now after changing to Michelin and after 2k I'm getting 36.

Bro i am riding along with discover 100cc bike so that i have to accelerate slowly this is the main reason for getting mileage and i myself surprised with the mileage figures provided by my ns.i think it gives me about 30-35kmpl during the trip

But but the main reason for getting such mileage figure was wind 🍃. During the trip i have never faced head wind 🍃 or any kind of wind drag.

Whenever i go to my village i have to face a lot of head wind 🍃 as a result I am getting mileage of 38kmpl.Speed 80-90 kmph.

No not possible. He calculated it wrong. This bike cannot give More than 41 or 42 even of tuned absolutely Lean.

Thanks, VaruaG! The maximum I've seen is 40 km/l (full tank method, so quite accurate). This was on a low-speed 250 km night run on empty roads, averaging 70-85 km/h (also included a 5 km stretch of broken roads @ 10-15 km/h). However, the front brake disc was periodically rubbing against the pads, so the bike must've lost some efficiency there.

In the city, I accelerate when I see a sensible gap, but Calcutta's pockmarked roads generally discourage hard riding. On lucky days and on specific roads, I get to redline the engine a few times. In town, I get a constant 33 km/l.

How accurate is the fuel guage? You mean that stack of bars that goes up and down according to the stock market? It's ridiculous. After a full tank, it shows full even after riding for 100+ km. Then it drops slowly and completely out of synch with actual fluid levels inside the tank. I don't trust it at all - it's about as linear as vegetable prices.

BTW I have seen all bajaj bikes shows full bars till 30% of fuel consumption

This might be a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway - what can affect the idle speed after a quick burst of acceleration?

Recently, the idle speed has been jumping to around 2,200 rpm after a quick run, however brief. This has never happened before - no matter how hard I rode, idling used to stay constant at 1,400-1,500 rpm.

Can excessive coolant levels cause this? At the last service, the coolant was topped up to beyond the "Max" line. Also, I (stupidly) shifted to Motul 3100 20w50 at the service (I'll move to 5100 after this).

I got 47,48 even after running in phase, just kept bike under 50 and was smooth on every action.
And it was 90 percent good two laned traffic free road .
