  • Review Of AS200 - 1000KMs

So where do i start. Its an awesome bike.No doubt about it.I used to own a Pulsar 180 until i sold it for this.Really couldn't resist the awesome looks and power of the bike.

I got it 2 weeks ago with the MRF tires Red colored bike.Damn does it look hot.The headlights are crazy and i haven't seen any other bike at this segment with such an awesome throw.I mean ride it in a dark alley and see the throw. Its just sublime......

I am not gonna say its an India Company and etc.because they have started to export it soon and i don't feel like comparing with Yamaha and Suzuki because this bike is an absolutely different segment. Also this is a higher CC segment so wouldn't make sense to compare.

The Bike has a good pickup no doubt. But the actual thrust comes post 4.5 K RPM.Perfect for highway ride and its Adventure Sports.Makes sense. When the bike was new i remember the Speed to be very uneven , as power used to thrust from pretty much 1.5 K rpm.But since the run-in is completed it starts at higher band.I never thrust the Accelerator Full as Pulsars are not good at it.If you do a gradual increase it does well.My Run-in was absolutely different.I used to be within 4K RPM till the 480 Kms and changed the engine oil.But after that i started taking it gradually to 6K RPM.I haven't went past 8K RPM but i can say this thing has such a sweet power. It just increases gradually and you would love it.Its smooth , pretty much linear from 5K rpm and goes on.I think my run-in was perfect which shows how good this engine is.This is one Gem of an Engine.I was pretty much shocked to see the bike literally has very very less if lot negligible vibes at higher speeds. It was an awesome experience. Its something i never expected considering how vibey the previous pulsars are.No complains at all.

The suspension is on the stiffer side and i would recommend people to Loosen the settings(If Possible).I think is quality is pretty good considering the previous Pulsars. The indicator switch is a bit less Tactile and i would have loved the Old Gen pulsars Indicator Switch. But then you will have to live with it.Its not a deal breaker though.May be i am nitpicking.

The tires....Oh boy i love those MRF tires. Talk about grip, such an awesome grip they have.It just makes the bike so easy to maneuver and very very good grip. Also the rear tires just looks Sick!!!Its pretty fat and makes the bike looks awesome from rear.I see lots of people complaining about the rear mudguard.I think it looks pretty cool.Agreed the NS looks better from the rear end since its Mudguard is different but keeping Adventure Sports in mind.Although you can still make it look like NS 100%.Saw one guy made it like that. Its not a direct fit though but he cut the Mudguard holder and thats about it.I would not comment on sound from here and there because that just doesn't make any sense(Like fairing noise etc etc). You can any day fix it.Just tighten the bolts. However i didn't find any noise coming from my bike... at least

The turning radius isnt that much as mentioned by people in the forum. Its not as big as P220 though but almost same as 180.
The only bike people compare this is with Duke 200.But thats a disastrous comparison. Both ae absolutely different genre. DOHC vs SOHC, Carb vs FI....just doesnt make sense.

In other words as someone mentioned

"Pulsar vs ktm is chalk vs cheese or apples vs oranges. , both have same engine bases and both are manufactured by bajaj. Thats where the similarity ends.
Well if you ride with a pillion then go for the Pulsar.really comfortable rear seat.
If you are for biking, fun, thrill then go for the duke. But yeah your pillion will be shit scared because of the neck jerking acceleration and will also cuss you in monsoons. But you can mod the seat always.
Pulsar is a silent performer.will reach 100 and more without grabbing attention.gradual linear acceleration all the way.duke is a street scorcher. It announces your arrival even at 40kmph.at anything above 6000 rpm, people are watching you.attention seeker- you bet. Pulsar will fade away slowly coz there are many many people opting for it.Its a good thing to be common, so is to be exclusive.spares of both bikes are cheap.very very cheap. both gives a mileage of 30-42. So basically it boils down to your needs and your budget. Duke is outright fun while pulsar is mature/silent killer."

    Makes absolute sense.

However i went to Banshankari Auto service bangalore and wanted to change oil in 1st service. They put Motul 3100 gold. Its a terrible terrible terrible oil.Never ever switch to it.This engine doesn't like it at all. Doesnt matter whatever happens never put any engine oil except DTSi.I know people say it crap but thats the best engine oil Money can buy till you run in your bike.

Concerns arent much though.Well no such noises from my bike,so i Am cool with it.I did feel if the bike Revved a bit faster from 0.5K RPM to 4.5K rpm it would have been pretty good.A little vibes from 4.5k to 5.5K considering the power thrust is there but then this is where the power comes so cant complain much. Those are good kind of Vibes. Also the tank scratches super easy(The top part where in previous pulsars you have a tank scratch guard).Your jackets or company ID card will be hitting it badly.Put the Pulsar 180 scratch guard there. Its a direct fit.Rear brake paddle is a pain for me because its too high for my foot.Working on it for a fix.Brakes are awesome in this bike though.

Well thats about it.This is my 1st review so hope it helps.Nothing else is coming to my mind right now as i hope i covered almost all the things that someone needs to know before buying this bike.Hope this helps

      Dude... This is dissappointing!!!

If I am not wrong, you had P220 --> Bought CBR250 --> Sold as you had an offer you couldn't refuse --> Decided not to go for an update --> Booked TBTS 500 --> Cancelled TBTS 500 --> Bought AS200...

It is sad to see that now you have to sell your AS200. I really hope that when you come back, you would be able to buy the bike your dreams. Please remember to share your detailed story then!

BTW if Ektaa Kapoor decides to make a drama soap opera on bikes, you will be in consideration for the lead role!

Lol, yea, I haven't yet finalized on getting rid of it. Though I don't find it very dramatic, since I had the 220 and CBR for 2.5 years each, which I believe is long enough. :P But yea, many around me do find my flings with vehicles a bit illogical, but cant help it that's how I am.

was always skeptical of getting the TBTS, it was booked and dropped it many times at different stages of the bikes evolution. AS200 was bought purely for commuting, to bridge the gap, till I either made enough money to buy a 600CC or I traveled out. Anyways, it will either be sold away or would give it to my younger brother depending on how stuff works out.

OTOH, a Lead role in a Ektaa Kapoor soap doesn't sound bad at all.

Hello Friends, I just got my hands on the new AS200 (Blue) on Friday and also have plans to share some images soon (Its raining heavily here so couldn't actually take it out). I just wanted to ask you guys what should be the level of the coolant in the new bike? because mine is only half full and since the traffic conditions in my city is worse, I am little worried about the heating issue of this motorcycle.

Can anyone of you please throw some light on this topic

That's fine.it should be above the minimum.and don't check my keeping the bike in side stand .ask someone to hold it straight and then check

                Hi guys ,
I have completed 1920 kms till now.
There is a noise similar to one that comes from rusted hinges coming from the engine when i intially move the bike, any suggestions on what that can be?
Also please suggest whether i should go with fully synthetic, semi synthetic or a mineral engine oil?

                  • Breakdown on the road while running; would not start; mechanic eventually fixed it

                    Hi all,

An important incident occured with my AS200 on sunday.

My red AS200 has done ~1700 km and faced no serious problems till last sunday, but faced a major scare this sunday. Went on a 50km ride along solan arki road (broken one way hill road) on sunday morning due to the lovely weather and bike performed well. There was some rain the previous day so i went to the service centre while returning in the afternoon and got the chain lubed. They sprayed a 'glowmax' lube from can and charged Rs 60.

Was going to drive from solan to chandigarh ~60km including ~40km hills. Left solan at 5.30 and everything was fine. After about 5 km i was at an uphill section moving at around 20 kmph and the bike suddenly stopped in the middle of the road!! It wouldnt start and people behind started honking!! I got off the bike and moved it to the side (quite a task given the weight of the bike and the uphill road).
I gave it a few self and the battery seemed fine. it was cranking loud and clear but the engine was not starting (like it had no fuel). I knew there was a lot of fuel and the fuel guage was also showing 4 bars. Anyways i turned the fuel knob to reserve just to be sure. The bike still didnt start! I even tried removing the key and then trying after a minute but nothing. shook the bike a little and nothing. I felt that maybe some fuel pipe or something had gotten loose but couldnt find any leaks etc.

Called up the dealer who was thankfully very close to the point where i was stranded. The guy on the phone made me talk to a mechanic. i described the situation and he asked me to open the fuel cap once, then close it and then start the engine. i did as he said but still no result. The SCV really did not have any other ideas. I asked them to send a mechanic and even though the place was hardly 1 km from the SVC they showed reluctance.

I was waiting but i had urgent work in the morning and couldnt stay here for the night, if the bike didnt start i would have to leave it there and go by bus. so i thought ill push it to the SVC which was about 1 km. In about 100mtrs i encountered a little uphill road and realised that it was not going to be possible to push the heavy bike. My heart was really sinking but i couldnt do anything but wait.

Finally, the mechanic came after about half an hour and i described the problem. he tried the starter 3-4 times and no response from the engine. Then he kept the starter pressed for about 10 sec at a stretch!! I asked him to release it as this would hurt the battery and the problem had to lie elsewhere. But he (as usual) didnt care about anything i said. Then he again kept the starter pressed for about 10 sec at a stretch!! I had to reach back home becuase of urgent work in the morning and couldnt bear to stay so let him continue with his tricks. When he thought he had played enough, he sat down and started fiddling with something near the engine. Then he gave another long push and the engine finally started!! he raced it to the redline and kept it there for about 5 sec. then let go of the throttle.

Now the engine ran properly. this was checked by turning off and on 2-3 times. When i asked him what was the problem he said the bike had taken air "bike ne hawa le li thi". on asking why he had no idea. When i asked him to tell me how to do this in case it happened again, he dismissed my request and said it wont happen now. He said fill some 'coolant' when you reach chandigarh!!why coolant when it was already half way between the maximum and minimum mark??

Anyways the bike did not cause any more problems since then but i felt scared. What if this thing had happened in some remote area or during the night which makes up quite a lot of my use??

I recently faced this issue while riding in water logged area in Mumbai. This happens due to compression problem. In such cases kick becomes a little loose than usual. What they do is remove the connector above the spark plug and put some oil in it. Kick for few moments till the carbon is cleared from piston. Put the connector back and start the bike. If this is the exact problem in Ur case, it should not happen on new bikes.

They do raise at max in this situation and am assuming it is necessary too though not at max. I have seen it almost like 4-5 times by now.

Hi All, (this is gonna be long)

I have been following the thread since the last few days. It has been quite insightful to me, specially to decide.

I plan to get a bike this year. I fell in love with the clip-on handles, ever since I rode an R-15 and p220. I had my heart set on CBR150R but moved on. My next choice was the P220 as I was impressed by this machine when I rode it for the first time and a few time later. What impressed me the most was the oh-so-lovely clip-on handles and more importantly the height of the handle-bars, apart from the excellent handling, gear-swtiching, balance and comfort (also to the gf-quite important in my case). Love between man and machine can sensitize over time.

My focus started shifting towards AS200 and I sarted reading and watching reviews left and right. This quarter-faired beauty has impressed me too, with all the upgrades, pros and cons whatsoever.

Now I am in a dilemma whether the AS200 or P220 would be a better choice. I believe a product that meets specific needs will seem the overall winner to a person in pursuit.
What I want in a bike is an excellent handling for cutting through the traffic, excellent brakes,
comfortable smooth gear-transition, pillion comfort (babe), and mileage.

Summing up my curiosity, I want to know in what ways are the AS200 and P220 different and in what ways are they similar???

Further, I loved the clip-on height on the P220 but was sad to see that a bit higher in the AS200. Will I regret this "miss" if I opt an AS200, or will the handle bar of the latter just grown on me later?????

Would really appreciate if you guys can answer any of the queries!

                          P.S: Haven't ridden the AS200 yet

Well it's simple.AS200.THE PULSAR 200 is basically and age old technology now.i remember when I ignored the pulsar 200ns and taking the 180.but later i regretted so badly that I had to sell it.coz the tech was old and no mono suspension old tech engine etc etc.so definitely you should go for the AS200.no way are 220 and 200 linked.when you look at 200 you will love it.plus the engine is vibe free and triple spark......well the list can go on actually.
Any other queries feel free to ask [emoji5]
