This is my first time buying a bike(from showroom) so new to all of this. Anyway will have to wait some time to arrange for money surprisingly parents have agreed with KTM RC. Confused. Never knew it will be so difficult buying a bike, few opinions keeps changing my mind.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
Hey Gixxerians,
So my bike's 2nd service is tommorrow. Oil change is going to happen for sure. A few days back I visited the service center to fix my bike's RVMs. At that time I enquired about the engine oil they use. The guy replies, "Suzuki hai sir". And then I saw a print ad on the glass of the desk showing a bottle of :IDEMITSU". My question is, can't I request them to use another engine oil, i.e. Motul or any other because I don't think Idemitsu olls are good as there are many negative reviews of it.
Replies will be appreciated..

I am not sure about putting a higher wattage bulb as the circuitry is built for the 35w one so I dont recommend them. If you use it then only you can know how will it affect the bike in the long term.

Some SVCs use idemitsu and some use motul both are apparently company recommended, i would suggest that you ask them for the motul.Originally posted by Mohd Akbar View PostHey Gixxerians,

I had asked if i could change to full synthetic or semi synthetic motul on my next service (at about ~6000kms) but the service guy said that warranty cant be guaranteed if we switch to oil that is not company recommended.
Ask them to put motul oil if they have it.
If they dont, u can either buy a bottle of motul non-synthetic if available (synthetic not recommended till 4.5k) or stick to what they have.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
If I am not wrong, Idemitsu is a SS oil costs around 350 bucks. The oil is good for around 1.5 to 1.7k (just like an average mineral) and post that bike feel harsh, not that oil looses its viscosity it just feels very rough, I changed it at around 2.3k kms and the oil felt it could have been used for probably another 400-500 kms.Originally posted by Tloren View PostSome SVCs use idemitsu and some use motul both are apparently company recommended, i would suggest that you ask them for the motul.

Coming to svc guys, do not listen to all the crap those service guys say. You can use Mineral, SS, or FS oil as long as you are not using improper grades (say 20w50 or something) . Just choose appropriate grade according to your location, temperature. Recently filled in Motul 5100 15w50 at 4.7k on the odo on my friends SF. We took the oil ourselves and asked mech to fill that, initially he was reluctant and gave us all BS, I gave him a piece of my mind, then he agrees use it and we also made sure it was mentioned in the service coupon that the oil was changed as per recommendation.

Talk to them, do not just agree to those guys, they just try to make fool of their customers.
P.S: SF is owned by my friend and not me, but I am the one who takes of it (he is not a hard core biker as I am
) .

Yes sir it is synthetic! But not comparable to the motul 7100's level of engine oils.Originally posted by Srvn View PostIf I am not wrong, Idemitsu is a SS oil costs around 350 bucks. And yes i had asked them to use the motul suzuki stock oil and i have strong feeling that they billed me for the motul oil and put that(idemitsu) instead cause the bike felt super weird after that service 😃
Unfortunately for me i am not very fluent in the local tongue even though i am a local here, so convincing them in english to write down that suzuki recommended oil was used is probably out of the option for me.
I'll probably stick to what they "recommend" until my free services are over post which ill switch to another oil, besides i ask them to change the engine oil at every service interval (~2000kms).

Hey guys, Just came across a link that gives some information on the Gixxer SF FI. I don't know how true the information is. So please don't go ahead bashing me.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
I do not know why you would compare it with 7100. Its a full synth oil and sf does not require 7100 and is a overkill IMHO (ofc unless the rider rips his bike to eternity every single time). Motul 5100 is a pretty good oil and this suffices for any sub 250 cc bikes (I felt the same even on my Duke 200 for the first 6.6k kms I used, though I am currently running on 7100) .Originally posted by Tloren View PostYes sir it is synthetic! Idemitsu is not all that a bad oil, thing is that it makes the engine feel little rough post 1.5k and requires change at under/around 2k mark provided the bike is ridden sanely, for a spirited rider it maxes out at 1.5k to 1.6k. I find it weird that you felt your bike super weird right after the oil change to Idemitsu. Any new oil change will make the bike feel smoother in comparison to the old drained oil, may be its in your head or the svc might have not change the oil at all or they might have used some inferior low quality oil (read somewhere that the svc guys use servo/castrol oil from a huge oil container) . FYI, Idemitsu oil (around 350/-) is pricier than Suzuki Motul mineral oil (under 300/-) so I believe they might not have billed you for Motul and used Idemitsu instead.
Good for your bike, its best to stick to 2k kms oil drain interval unless you are running on FS oil.
Anyone who wishes to change the oil before the service due, can do so at the svc, just make sure you get a job card created for the oil change and clearly mention the job description as oil change and oil filter change with other important details like odo reading and oil change date, and an invoice bill after the oil change mentioning the labour charge for the oil change, it should never be more than 50 bucks (don't remember exact figure). This ensures your warranty is intact, as Suzuki recommends 3k kms as drain interval.
My sf went for first paid service 2 weeks back and at not even a single service we have changed it at all, rather we followed 1.5k kms for mineral and 2.3k kms for SS oils and has all the invoices for the oil change done so far. The bike has extended warranty as well so it is very important to follow the service intervals with all service records.

Weird in my case involved- the bike feeling much rougher than it used too and how it used to struggle past 6k rpm mark post service (maybe they played with the carb and made the bike run on lean?)
The motul-idemitsu oil doubt was because the previous services the oil on the bike was red in color post service and i was billed for motul, this service they put a light yellowish oil. And there were only idemitsu oil bottles stocked up in the spare-parts warehouse.
Either ways i might be wrong, and its probably all in my head. 😊
I will consider the 5100 if the service people dont make a fuss in the near future!
Thanks for the advice mate!
Haha I did have babysit my brother's duke200 for a few months with Met's and the motul 7100 and i certainly fell in love with it ! 😍

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
Yes red is Motul and Light yellow is Idemitsu.
Fiddling with carb can be a possibility. Did u happen to check the chain slack? I have noticed at more than one occasion these SVC guys tend to over tighten the chain. I don't recall exactly but the slack must be around 8-9mm. Tighter chain also causes roughness. Fell in love eh? I still am even after owning it for 3.4 years...

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
Those who have Suzuki Blue MotoCross helmet>> Have you guys seen a something like a locks on top of the helmet? I tried removing them and the left one came out with ease but the right one was very hard to take out. This is indeed something like lock only because I was able to put that back into place later on. And I could also take out the shade from that point. I think we can remove that shade opening these locks. Has anyone tried it?
