Thanks. Where do you service the bike? How about parts availability?

I bought my bike at JAV Suzuki-Adyar and from 1st service onwards doing it at ABT Nandanam.,.
Most of the parts are available in Chennai.,
Even if a particular spare isn't available in my SC, I can able to get it from other SC's easily.,

About a month back, I faced my fisrt crash,... I hit a cow during night time which resulted in Headlight Stay bent, Front mod guard got a small crack on right side, handle bar & gear lever went like "L" shape, saree guard too got severe bent.,.

I'm survived with very little bruises on wrist.,. I couldnt believe that the Crash guard saved my legs ...
It too got twisted...So adjusted the handle bar & some bends in lever with the help of a road side mechanic..

Got the headlight stay from my SC, but saree guard isnt available, so headed to SMK Porur and got one readily after inquiring at SMK velachery..

Got back home and replaced the spares by myself.,.,

Now,learnt some lessons to replace it... Replacing the STAY was a tidious job...

Conclusion ::: Parts that gets damaged easily after some crashes are available easily...

Thanks for the heads up. If at all, I may do a 300 - 400 KM round trip once in a while if I am going alone. Cheaper than taking the car. Daily commute will be 25 KM only.

Can we ride 150 KM non-stop? Any heating issues? Also would like to know problem areas, and issues if any, that crop up after two or three years. I hope the bike ages well. Sorry, it is impossible to browse through 1600+ pages of posts to get all the answers!

I did a brief test ride and could touch 75 KMPH in 6th gear before the next signal came up. I liked what I saw. Felt like I was riding a ZMA. Test ride bike had 18000KM on the odo and was none too clean, but did not rattle.
150 KPL is cake walk for GS , also for the rider due to conforts.
problem 2/3 years , consumables like tyres , spark plug , bulbs are common to almost all bikes. this bike should last for good period of time looking at its built quality.hardly this bike has any problems .

Sorry to hear about your crash. The crash guard is very important;else one might even lose his leg. Never ever remove it.

I did the test ride at ABT. Since the traffic did not allow me to ride freely, did another one at Jain's Suzuki, Pallavaram. If I buy it, I will take it from ABT. Since I bought my car from ABT, I know some people at the two wheeler place as well. Last year I bought an Access for a colleague from them.

How is the service at ABT? They are not so good for car - I take it to MSM.

Two more points; one is about resale value. The other is, I see the pillion seat is slightly sloping up, at an angle. While this looks nice, how good is it for sari clad ladies riding pillion?

The other bike I liked (after the GS) was the Karizma R. Tested that too. I am planning to borrow one from my nephew and ride it to work for a few days, to see if it will be comfortable for daily use.

ABT, they are just neutral, didnt had any issues so far.... Since the servicing is mere a waterwash, oil change, chain slack adjustments, some lubrications here and there..,
I got used to do this by myself.. So no complaints with them..
I too wanted to buy my bike from them, but then the time I booked they didnt had stock,. So I cancelled the booking and took my bike in JAV Suzuki,Adyar...

Mostly my mom will be the pillion in my bike.,.She said it's very comfortable to sit/travel, except getting up and down... Even some gents pillion too said the same... And it is the same case in Unicorns & Karizmas....

Surely resale value is less compared to other bikes.,

              • Hello Friends

Today i went to a popular lathe works (which is in my nearest city called ERODE) who is well known for making pulleys for TVS 50(in my area some of this TVS 50's are equipped with belt drive)

They have no experience in making pulley for Our GS but anyway a senior Lathe operator agreed to give some Trial and error method

finally they agreed to make this job for about ~Rs 3-4K
I am going to start this work by coming Saturday.

Pulley plans: (basically its a Tooth pulley)
                1. Tooth breadth of 2 inch (Planned by myself)
                2. Front pulley dia is 10 cm (plan given by Lathe people)
                3. Rear pulley dia is 18 cm (plan given by Lathe people)

I welcome all your valuable ideas, suggestions and advise

So you are approaching this subject seriously? Then, I think, starting a new thread for it is better as others, especially those with engineering background, too can participate in the discussion.

The final drive ratio of your bike is 41:14. The circumference of your proposed pulleys is 56.52 and 31.4 cms and the ratio is 1.8:1. A gear ratio of 1.8:1 increases the speed in every gear by about 68% and decreases the pickup in the same rate. Are you sure that you can engrave sufficient teeth on each pulley to maintain the original gear ratio of your bike?
Rs. 4000/- for pulleys plus cost of belt and tensioner plus labor charges (if the stock swing arm need not be modified) means more than 8 chain sets which again means more than 240K kms.
Belt drive is smoother as there is no vibrations caused by the slackness of chain and is somewhat maintenance free but the possibility of breaking is almost equal. So, considering the benefits, the cost of it is not justifiable.
Anyway, please start a new thread. Let us see what others think about it.

This is the second time i faced the same thing...... & that from different dealer too.

There will be trade off for drive ratio between belt /pulley and chain/sprocket assembly but not much , we have people altering final ratio to optimise performance.
Teeth on pulleys will enhance grip unlike sprocket teeth engaging with chain links and are different , it will be circumference of both pulleys.
Agreed 4K+ price is on higher side due to customisation and not comparable to regular chain /sprocket due to direct fit availablilty and also little tedious, hope he gets cheaper alternatives , but we have after market components like spark plugs air filters, exhausts, etc costing 8-10 times and not justifying the costs though they are direct fit.
As we are involved with GS let this discussion hold on this thread too ,along with new one for better ideas (bullet guys specially, other bikers will hardly take interest due to different combinations, but may help).

                          • Yesterday my GS had experience of heavy rains in Mumbai (since 4 days it is drenched in rains as i do not have shelter for parking at my office and home, putting cover is no good either when bike is wet) , it easily drove in a feet deep water for 200 meters without any hassle were karizmas , pulsar , unicorn , dazzler , fz's were blocked along with 100 cc's and , even newly launched pulsar 200ns stranded and was struggling to start which eventually did after loads of attempt.i too stopped forcefully as not to attempt any stunt and risk bike getting stranded only when one more guy on GS(rare) passed very easily , i started my journey confidently behind with fellow bikers waiting for rains to stop and bike to start. kudos to suzi engineering due to high raise and weight and design quality (raised muffler , air intake , isolated electricals)this bike can be driven confidently in any circumstances.

Whether you like this bike or not ,dont know... Just want to clear some points to you..

The handebar position is same in each and every bike out of the factory.,
It's kept in that position to minimise fatigue on the wrist during long drives.. It serves that purpose well..

But I travel through more stop and go city conditions..So it didnt suited my riding style when I rode my bro's bike, After I purchased my GS,the very second day I lowered the handle bar reach to suit my style...

Just a matter of 5mins work with a 12-13mm ring spanner...

PS:: That is the only reason people find it difficult to take U turns...
OT:: This adjustment helped in my Passion Plus too..

This bikes looks most beautifull for the rider from riding position and while riding , iam 5.4 ' , little handle adjusted towards rider side quiet comfortable in city and highway with good FE as bonus, with majestic tank , superb console , high stance , big bike and majestic feel ,am proud of my bike.
