  • Re: Suzuki GS150R

The legend on the engine, pages 6-23 and 9-4 of owner's manual contradict with each other with the amount of oil to be filled with/without oil filter change - these pages are clever and use the word "approx" when possible. 100 ml of oil may not make a big difference but I decided to ask the Suzuki's technical help desk. (This was also discussed here long time ago). I asked about the grade and amount to be filled.

Got a mail within 1-2 weeks of asking my query - Thanks Suzuki !

Also an interesting attachment in the mail. Similar to the chart given in the owner's manual but API/JASO spec requirement is also mentioned.

Moreover, the mileage factor of FZ is another area of concern. My GS gives around 60kmpl if ridden at the range of 4-4.5K RPM. I will give the bike for first service next week and then check for the mileage again.
Don't give heart attack to owners of other 150 cc bikes with your GS' mileage figures.

ha ha.. Even I did not believe such a big mileage figure when the Sales executive told me during booking. I was expecting real world figure to be hovering around 50-55 kmpl as mentioned in many GS ownership reviews. But it was a pleasant surprise for me to see the mileage I got .

          Hi Pals,

My bike's color has started to fade to a great level from front mud guard and rear left portion where sticker (gs150r) is pasted. Does anybody else is also suffering from the same?
My bikes model is sept-2010. I will try to post the pics tomorrow.

[I got my new bike on tuesday. Everything seems to be good, except a noise coming from engine , when i start engine after gap of 2-3 hours comes first few seconds. It is sound like gear not engaged properly. But this sound comes in nutral as well. Please let me know if it is big problem or i should ask delar for it ? And this sound does not come if i the interval bike was stopped is less.

Sorry for being late... Its true that suzuki have reverted back its price but only for GS150R...not for other models. Actually, suzuki have lowered its price for GS also but after decreasing the tax they have increased the manufactured cost of GS150R....Lucky me I think....By the way my bike is 2013 manufactured.

I was planning for this mod after reading about such a possibility. I did a good research on this topic and today I am really Glad to complete the Air Filter Mod for GS 150 with that of Suzuki Fiero. The basic change is from a Paper Filter to Foam Filter (oiled). It is a direct fit. Thanks to Suzuki. Tried a test drive and there is a good push in the acceleration. Can give a complete review only after a long drive. Attached pictures would tell the story. Total Expense. Fiero Air Filter Assembly - Rs 600. Time for the Mod - 15 MinsClick image for larger version

Hope it works better. I have made another change to my bikes stock filter by removing the air scoop from the filter face. I don't know what effect it has done to my milage but the engine sound has improved. Now there is more bass to the engine sound at lower RPMs.

The stock filter has a wire mesh surrounding the air filter. I had to remove it because it started to rust. If Fiero filter is oiled it won't be a problem.

Heard that GS filter fits Apache too - So, Apache's foam filter should fit GS (proper sealing is important right?). Any advantages of using a foam filter compared to the paper one?
Does oil+foam combo trap dust better ? I wonder why Suzuki changed to the paper type in GS from foam type in Fiero - ease of maintaining?

Yes... using paper filter reduces maintenance. Oiled foam filter grabs dust very effectively. Prime advantage is more air than paper filter

Does it sound like a metallic "khla-chak khla-chak khla-chak" and does the engine switch off by itself?

If yes, you are referring to the sound of the autodecompressor(this also makes a clunck sound when we switch the engine off) - ignore.

If No, either show it to ASC or post a youtube "video" of that mysterious sound.

yes, I think you are right. It is same sound which appears when we switch off the engine. Only difference is that is present while starting bike for 5-10 SECONDS till i will give accelerator. I also thought that it seems to be sound of decompression.

Is it require to open engine to change decompress or if it is faulty ?

                              Thank you for the answer.

Warm-up a cold engine as described in the manual - This will take a couple of minutes literally - use this time to mentally prepare for the ride as the above Castrol MAX "tip for the day" says . Your engine is fine - just open the throttle a little bit if your hear that sound. Clunk sound while switching off is normal. Your query makes me nostalgic as this is what I too asked for the first time after getting my GS. Run-in the engine well !
