  • Hi guys...

I am back home after a 1050km drive with my GS for the CTC (Chennai Trekkers Club) bike trip.

Route Info: Chennai -> Shivasamudra falls (Karnataka) -> Hogenekkal falls -> Chennai.

Started at 3am (on June 19th) and returned on 7am (June 21st)

    Total bikes - 19
    Bikers - 19 + Pillions - 12

Bikes that took part in the trip - Ninja Pulsar, hunk, unicorn, R15, Fazer, FZ, FZ-S, Royal enfield bullets and my only GS

    Some highlights in the trip:

    1) Hit a top speed of 115 with a pillion and 2 luggages
    2) Bike was rock solid at top speeds against winds
    3) Got an average mileage of 45kmpl (we were in the 80kmph - 100kmph zone most of the time). Even a unicorn got only a mileage of 35kmpl
    4) Me and my pillion were driving alternatively every 50km. He was enjoying the bike more than me
    5) At one time the indicator buzzer started beeping continuosly (even when the indicators were off). Stopped the bike and checked it thoroughly. There was a short circuit in the buzzer connection. We fixed it and everything was fine.
    6) We had a very bumpy ride in some worst roads which has loosened the chains. It has happened to almost all the bikes in the trip. One the guy's Fazer's front suspension started giving noise.
    7) Most of the guys in the trip were asking about my bike and the details.
    8) I had extra tubes in case of any punctures. But thank god that nothing serious happened.
    9) Awesome cornering of GS at high speeds near curves and bends. Wowwwwwwwww !!!!!!

Overall. Had a wonderful trip. Back home Safe and sound with a swollen buttocks

Time to leave my baby for the service. Changing to MOTO 4 GOLD.

Thanks and take care and enjoy your ride

      • Totally Unreal..........

        @ Blitz

That was very daring of you to attempt Motoman break in method. From your post it seems like you are very satisfied with your bike. I came to know about this method after riding more than 3K on ODO. For the first 1000 kms Im very sure I have done much riding in constant rpm. Got worried over engine glazing and checked mileage time to time and it was over 50 with a pillion. Still mine is giving 45+ mileage with a pillion so guess everything is fine. And because of this reason, I send private message to almost every newcomer not to maintain constant engine rpm and to give short burst of acceleration.

          • Welcome back spacetech, good to see old pals back.

Engine glazing is a condition where the engine settles without being seated correctly. The piston rings are to tightly seal the oil from getting into the combustion chamber. Frankly saying I dont know what the symptoms of engine glazing. I will share my know how and we can infer problems from them. The piston rings are provided with cross hatch pattern to promote wearing of the ring so that it forms an ideal seal (Not so tight not so loose) to the cylinder. If the engine is run without proper load( low constant speed), the cross hatch pattern will wear down and having the cross hatch pattern disappear the rings will not wear further no matter how hard we run. That means the engine is settled with an improperly mated ring seal(excessively tight or leaky).

Some problems with engine glazing will be
            1. Burning of oil: More oil seeps into the chamber and the oil is used up quickly
            2. Poor high end performance
            3. Low efficiency

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

            • The symptoms of glazing are as Anup said
              1)Lack of power
              2)low mileage
3)oil enters the combustion chamber and burns with the fuel at high RPM and the exhaust becomes smoky
4)Oil level decreases quiet fast because of this burning.

Glazing happens when the cylinder walls and piston ring smoothes out to a glazed finish. The piston is actually supposed to slide on a thin film of oil so that metal to metal contact is minimum. In glazed engined, the cylinder wall is so smooth, that it does not hold any oil and the oil seeps through to the combustion chamber and there is plenty of metal to metal contact between the piston rings and cylinderwalls further worsening the problem.

Actually even i had kept my fingers crossed, hoping nothing goes wrong. If anything went wrong, no one will back me up. They will say its your fault, you ruined it all. But then I realized that in our small bikes not much heat gets produced. The big problem is when we are dealing with bikes with a lot of discplacement. More CC means more fuel is burnt and more heat. glazing is a very rare occurrence here in our country with small engines(compared to big bikes abroad). i'm getting a good mileage of 50+ and ample power. I'm happy with my ride.

                  thats correct Blitz bhai

all new riders any one or two of the said symptoms doesn't mean she is glazed it may be some-other problem, so don't conclude do consult doctor Oops authorized service point

IE if tire air pressure is below acceptable level you can feel lack of power
during the first 1k mileage wont be constant in many cases.

hey buddy, please reply to the above question yaar. I need to know if you have connected the hid to the wire coming from the battery to the back light or to some other wire. Also is it draining your battery after say 1hr of city riding? How would you solve the charging issue in case it is draining? Raj

                    • I am sorry, but I don't remember which exact wire did he connect! But 95% it was red wire. I haven't yet had the chance to ride 1 hour in night, be it in city or on highway, after the installation of the HID. Only a few mins bursts. The bulb sometimes flickers, sometimes doesn't. I am planning to get a AC to DC converter to feed the headlight power AC line from RR back to battery for charging.

                      • Today I finally found the engine oil of my dreams for a run-in Suzuki bike.A mineralised semisynth 20W40 of Motul .........ahh finally freedom from Castrol. My bike will get to run rockets

Why Mineral??? My bike is in Run-in and it would be maintained with mineral as so till 500kms atleast.

Why Motul ??? SVC Suzuki oils are Castrol.....most of which runs out of everything after it has washed for only 700kms.Not good for strong revving engines and powerful run-ins.Castrols are good for Achievers,Glamours,Zeus,Splendours but not for something like GS150R or the Unicorn.
How do I conclude that Motul is a best fit for Suzuki in presence of Gulf,Shell and all ??
Motul is used by all factory racing Suzukis,be it MotoGp or WSBK or MotoX......its Motul all the way, judge from the pics below.

Note Motul emblemed at the Bottom of Mid Panel. Its the MotoGp machine.

Note Motul emblemed at the Bottom of Mid Panel. Its the one ridden by Leon Haslam in WSBK.

So internationally Suzuki machines run Motul. In India Suzuki has made a cheap deal with Castrol on bulk purchase.Actually Motul is ideal for the Zuki.Even in case of synthetics,I would use the Motul300V after 5000kms

Here is how the Motul can looks

Tomorrow I am going to drain the oil and use this 1litre pack(perfect for GSR ).
I know after this my GSR is gonna say different things even in Run-in.

Oh Okay,I did a 160kms of Highway riding today.Speed on my cousin's GPS at 4500rpm for my GSR was around 69-70kmph in 6th gear.Max speed attained at 7500rpm for a short blast was around 106kmph in 6th gear.I think its a lot said. The bike would be maniacal at 8500rpms once the run-in is over. Not even a bit of engine heating.............simply amazing.

Here's a pic of myself with my ride

                        • A little HID magic for GS

Street at 9.30pm in front of my house:

Let there be light HID Dipper

Let there be even more light HID Upper

The bike itself was positioned bit to left, so the beam seems left. While riding, the light is uniform. Photos don't do justice, as in reality the light beam is superb. Recommended mod, for less than 2000rs!

Ive always felt tat the stock tyre is not too good for cornering and have skidded many times.. So bought MRF ZAPPER Y 130 section tyres for the back.
The tyre fitted without any adjustments and has superb grip.Handling has improved by tons..

Can you post some photos(close up) of the tire ?
A 130 section can be put without a change in rim?
I havent faced any difficulties with the stock tires so far but a 130 section tire will look good on our GS.
