Thank you Rajesh for letting me know about Petronas's availability.

I would love to have Petronas fully synth for my Unicorn. However, would also like to try AGIP. (may purchase both AGIP and Petronas)

I had just changed my engine oil just before Tri-state meet to Shell Helix Ultra. It's awesome, I'm able to feel the smoothness while driving from 60> 90kmph.

I don't mind have couple of Cans for my bike before they disappear.

Lets group our orders and purchase for better deal.

Why is registration so delayed in W.B? Here we cannot run more than 50Km without registration. And every vehicle is delivered after registration and it takes only a day here and you get the number same day?

By the way bro, have you done all this riding with speed sensor detached? Thats why you mentioned about GPS rite and said the speed based on the other bike rite.
I guess GPS errors are possible.

Sorry to disturb if any interesting discussion going on

Small update. my ODO read 6224 . After 3k usage of Gulf 4t Oil my mind started think about changing the oil. But it is still good.

Coming to point... i went to my (new friend) oil dealer where i bought gulf 4t.

This time there were lots of surprises.

first thing i saw was AGIP 4t fuly synth 5w40. He said it is 600+ anyway i thought why should i think about synth now.

So took shell VSX semi synth 10w40 and paid 275. Suddenly i asked what is the best price you can give this AGIP anna.... he said 525. i was ok then give to me instead of VSX.

its APISJ , ACEA A3, JASO MA made in italy. but no MRP printed ().

And another surprise was he got dealership of petronas. i saw petronas 2000 mineral oil. i asked him is it possible to get 5000 for me ? any number of cans constrains ... he said no prob. even 2-3 is fine for me to get.

Gonna inform chennai xbhpians. We can get Either petronas or AGIP for more better deal

Ok.. now... Shall i change to AGIP ? getting tempted... having can right infront of me .. what say guys ??
Oh you're really lucky.. i was searching so many shops on JC road today and couldnt find petronas at all
If i were you i'd swith to synthetic right away. its really tempting and i want to know how much the smoothness improves etc etc.

Could you do me a favour, next time you visit that shop, ask him for some petronas head office number. i want to call them and ask if there are any dealers in bangalore.

I agree to you about the color difference. But I doubt its because of the type of exposure to sunlight, usage of detergents etc. If we keep bikes in rain or under sun the color will definitely fade.

If you have seen the difference yourself its ok, but we cant judge the color by looking photos as the color varies slightly in every camera and according to the surroundings. If the back ground is dark the bike will appear bright and viceversa.
The bike i saw today looked pretty sad and greenish.. probably its faded.. but that wasnt a very good colour to look at.

I chose the greenish blue as it a unique shade not so light not so dark. It shows every curve on her body and I simply liked it. But if it gets any lighter to a greenish side it will look sick. Once i kept my Kinetic Honda outside porch, it rained through out night and next day i found that the black color has faded in many places especially on fiber parts. May be that bike you mentioned have suffered such exposures.

To me your bike(from avatar) looks a little lighter compared to mine.

I took that picture 2 days after getting my bike, so no chances of fading there..
Ya it does look kinda lighter in the pic,
Anyway i got a new tank so if the old one was a shade lighter, that problem got solved too, along with the minor rust

Oh, thanks dude.. i'll try calling this number tomo,

Edit: i went thru the engine oil thread and some guy who bought petronas from there posted pics, page 245(posting date 26th april 2010), he's bought a bottle which was imported in june 2008
Even in JC road i came across a shop with 1 bottle of petronas with same date and i left it as it was too old.
Damn, back to square 1 again.

              • Hi guys,

I changed my engine oil to ELF MOTO 4 GOLD recently.

I feel that the engine is getting heated quickly and also the pickup has come down (gear shifts are better with improvement in mileage).

I have done only 100km with the new oil. Will post the complete experience with this oil after i cross the 500km mark with this oil.

Guys... Could you please tell some good engine oils for our GS?. It will be very good if you guys post your personal experience with the oil.

I have the following oils in my mind (for the next change)..

                1) Shell advance S
                2) Gulf pride 4T

What you guys say abt the SS and FS oils? Has anyone tried it? Whats the favourable ODO reading to go for the synthetic stuff?

                Do reply

                      guys,
have been using Shell Vsx SS oil for the last 1800kms (including highway runs of 700kms). Oil still has absolutely no dirt, and color/viscosity are fine. My mechanic said it is still good for 300-400 more. Engine vibes are low, and bike performance is very strong on highway runs. My current ODO is 9900km.

so IMO Shell VSX a very good choice.. I have already bought a can of Shell advance ultra FS oil for my next change Drain interval promised is 9000kms!

                        @ Rajesh

Thanks for those great links. But about using the synthetic oil rite away we should not confuse our motors with those high spec engines. Our engines are mass produced and manufactures wont bother to fine tune our engines to make it cost effective. Its left for us to properly break the engine.

And one more is this Mobil 1 full synthetic oil available for motorcycles?

                        @ Srini

You are the first to give comment on VSX . So it too is a good one, Rajesh has already used Gulf Pride 4T for 3K kms and he is very satisfied with it even though his engine is new compared to yours. So it will be better for you and will be a good value for money product as its just 200 INR and can run 3000 kms easily.

Ya... you are right. but wont you think 6000 is enough for break in ? i followed owners manual to break in. Then heard of moto man's method also. one day i revved like anything in 2,3,4 gears. will you believe i went more than 75 in 4th gear. changed oil also. So it shd be fine ? what say ?

man my mind all saying to change it... As always i will experiment and share my exp. ready to rock in another hour

If we think in a logical way Motoman method makes sense. In that sense our engines( mine has done 6.4K so far) are already settled. Frankly saying our engines are not high revving short stroke but a low revving square engine. There is no need for a synthetic oil, but if it is running our engine stress free it is acceptable. If we keep using mineral oils till 10K, engine and gears will be well settled and we can have all the fun with full synthetic oils. Also if the drain interval of full synthetic can be as high as 9K then it will be a value for money product as mineral oils wont last more than 2K. For the same distance we need to change mineral oil at least thrice and there is little difference in cost.

you know any place where i could get it for around 500-530, mrp is 620 i guess.

Petronas really sucks, i called Mumbai head office, they directed me to some guy in chennai, who in turn directed me to AVS who directed me to some shop in sarjapur, sarjapur is 30kms away and i'm definitely not planning on going there..(in any case the shop in sarjapur also said he doesnt have stock)
