The cost of MSD cable i heard is huge around 3.5k rs.. so didnt change it..
As of now, i am also not going for rejetting.. just fuel screw tuning since i will be ridind 95% in traffic below 50 kmph. So the pilot jet adjusted by fuel screw is responsible for lower end fuel mixing ratio. if any problem comes after mod due to non-upjetting, i will go for upjetting next weekend.

If upjetting is needed, which bike's needle jet and main jet is to be fitted?
Apache 180 n pulsar 180's jets will do the job , they are direct fit too, both bike use MIKUNI carb
I think any way round, mileage is going to decrease for sure, but rejetting will give hefty power boost atleast..... I dont think mileage drop will be huge after rejetting...as new jets will give correct A/F mixture, as they wont be needed to be tuned for rich ratio

      • vibrations in gsr

        Hello guys...
Its 3 days since i got my Gsr. I liked the riding and the smoothness of engine. odo reads 135 km now. But i noticed a clearly visible vibration between 4 and 5000 rpm mainly in 5th and 6th gear, and as usual out of focus headlight is another problem.
I took bike to SC today. A mechanic who first set right the focus of Headlight also checked the air pressure of tyre. He told front tyre pressure was less. I have brought the bike back, and in office. While riding back home, i have to check the vibration still exixts or not.
Now my question to all senior GSR owners. Is this vibration common in the initial period or will it continue?

Venu, the vibration is avail in all GS ,In that RPM RANGE,Whether 2009 or 2010...But slowly it will reduce , For me When i change GULF Pride 4T 20w 40, the vib is almost nil(not complete)... Its not an issue ,its nature of engine that produce such vib in particular RPM...
Yes mostly from factory all GS coming with out of focus...Its easy for us to focus ourself if u know the location of the screw (below headlamp),From brake pedal if u lean and see u can spot it...Better go to dark place with TORCH then adjust according to ur requirement.....
Expect more good picture from u as ur hobby is photograph...

          • Finally..

Today my bike crossed 2k kms..
I was waiting for this day to tune my bike's carb...
Mileage was between 40-45kmpl which is very low for gs..so wanted to tune using our MACH bhai's guide...
surprisingly my bike had 5.5 turns anticlockwise from lock position before tuning it myself..i think sc guys had tuned it that way..
Now its set at 4 turns from lock position..is this optimum?
i rarely go on highways and even main roadsand travel around 5-8kms/day[my college is 2kms from my house] in local roads and once in a month i take her out for long ride...
so what will be optimum setting for better mileage?

            thanks....

            • 5.5 turns! Be glad the screw didn't fall out! The optimum lies between 2.5-3 turns, even now yours is rich mixture.

I found that adjusting the air screw is very essential and important stuff. Fuel screw can be tweaked any time, but proper air screw setting is vital. Adjust it after riding 5-7 kms.

Mine is currently nicely set I think, idle at 1.1-1.2k, warm rpm at 1.5k, hot rpm (after long ride) is 1.6k. However, one observation. The bike starts in 1-2 kicks in morning (after my 5-6 kicks with ignition off). But if I give the choke, it shuts off! Guess the air is not sufficient to burn all the fuel rushing after giving choke. Any pointers on this?

              • During the initial 500kms the vibrations will be more moreover 4k to 5k rpm is known in gs for roughness

After 2k on odo vibes are not felt and at 6k on odo now I didnt felt any vibes or roughness Would call it as nil. May be its the magic of motul.

Power mode gave me 57 kmpl but eco mode gives me max 52 only

                  Thanks...
Mech too showed that headlight adjustment screw, and i hope vibes in my gsr will subside once i complete 1st service.

                  @Madhu,
did you too experience vibes in 4-5k rpm range in the run in period of your bike? i wonder why did they name economic mode then while you get more mileage in the other mode i just completed 135 kms, so yet to calculate the mileage.

Yes after crossing 400kms change engine oil not motul use castrol and you will fell the deference

In one line let them make noise and vibes it ill take some time for the parts to settle down.

Bother only if the noise or vibe is unusual and nontolerable.

                      Hey Madhu,
Are you sure about getting more mileage in power mode compared to eco ?
My bike has always been in eco only, and i got mileage of 55 may be two or three times (not anytime recently though, may be 6 months ago), average mileage used to be 50-52, but last three times(after getting my bike from servicing) i've got just 46 everytime !!
This could either be due to bad tuning, or possibly evaporation as i've been filling 350 bucks of shell for that car (collected 4 btw ) because it usually takes 3 weeks for bike to come to reserve with 350 bucks of fuel.

Any suggestions on how to improve riding style ?
In my usual riding, i almost never cross 5k rpm, but the bad mileage could be because i open the throttle a lot at low rpms to get fast pick up(in traffic) till the 5k mark. (and all this in eco mode too)
(i guess if i keep the rpm above 5k all the time (when i want to zip), i would get better mileage since momentum would be conserved better in the engine, fly wheel etc)

And how was your mileage riding around 28-30 in 4th gear and 34-36 in 5th gear ? that 3k rpm mark makes the engine silent, but i dont know if low rpms would give good mileage or not..

(i know, this post is kinda lame considering how long i've been riding GS, but i guess i've forgotten how to ride efficiently after seeing the fun in zipping. )

you know my place rite i have to ride slowly [around 28-30 in 4th gear and 34-36 in 5th gear ] no other way

on too much of traffic like crawling movement (mostly on 1st 2nd gear or 3rd gear max ) i got 49 on power mode and poor 44 on Eco i am clueless on why
it may be the tuning only i believe

i tested twice before confirming but i did all that with 1 or 2 ltr petrol in main R to R method

                        Shell Says:
full tank filling will make more mileage by reducing petrol evaporation in conduction with the air in petrol tank and via tanks vent system.
full tank means easy to calculate and lesser number of visits to petrol bunk.

it sounds realistic what you say

So if you have any doubts about GSR you are welcome here
But if you ask us about the Dazzler we wont be able to tell you much, pls follow this link then:

Also please don't compare directly between the models,on either of the forums.....I am telling this because,it would produce some unwanted complications, every owner loves their bikes and they have a reason why they didn't go for others.

Take for example, my case,I didn't even test ride the GSR before I bought it.I was thinking of buying the RTR180 or the FZ16,and my budget for a bike of my daily use was 76000 to the max.I was never a Pulsar fan except the model Pulsar220F,but again 220F was then Rs.80,000 on road and on daily basis it wont have aided the mileage I was looking for.

Then I came across the Bike reviews by Bike India, which had our old time member Xbhpian Bunny Punia, this mag provides some accurate facts and figures and I know the way they test bikes, its awesome, they test bikes for everyone's convenience and according to common man's usage.

The GSR emerged victorious in their 150cc segment tests, got the accolade Bike Of the Year 2010,then Bunny went Leh and Himachal hoping on it,under the title Ice Conquest..........from his pen I read the words "I pushed the little 150 mill a tad too hard sometimes, but it showed no signs of protest",from a mad Karizma fan these words were more than a compliment.
Bike India also told that this bit was every bit better than the Unicorn(engine smoothness, gearshift qualities, techno gadgetry, looks and mileage),except the marketing back-up of Suzuki nothing is wrong.

So I dropped the idea of going for the RTR180-it being a racer, would be low in FE and low on daily ride comfort and long ride comfort.
The idea of FZ16 was dropped too because according to Bike India performance tests,it is slower than the GSR and its also not Fuel Efficient, and high price for being only a 150cc was not Value For Money.

I zeroed in on the GSR......blindly,running out of options..........and then discovered a masterpiece,a true masterpiece.I felt,I was back to the days of Suzuki Shogun and Fiero that made me Suzuki fan then and now again

I have ridden the Dazzler after its launch too(though Bike India said that it is rougher than the Unicorn),my close friend has bought one....and I was not satisfied with its performance at all .Afterall that friend of mine wanted to go for the GSR too,but I gave him to test ride mine,he being a thin guy and new to motorcycling found it hard to lug this 150cc beast around the city and unwillingly he wanted to go the Flame125 from TVS.Then Honda came up with Dazzler,I found it stylish, zippy and lightweight and a 150cc and recommended the bike to him.He trusted me blindly and bought the Dazzler.Despite his hue and cry now, that the Dazzler looks like CB Twister and most thinks he is riding a 100cc,I tell him to stick to it,for it is a Honda whose quality levels are as good as Suzuki itself,.......Moreover his riding style suits to the Dazzler,he doesn't go for long tours with me,he just zips around the city chasing CBZ-Xtremes and overtaking Santros and beating rowdy Auto-rickshaws.Thats all.

Whatever everyone might suggest, you would be the main person, whats good for you and what not.
Love the way you explained dude. Top to bottom!

My aim was comfort, size of Uni+ Digital Gizmos and I got Grey GSR... Its awesome. Will never go or other bike if again got a chance. People see only ads and get attracted. My cousin on seeing this bike said that it looks great. on seeing suzuki at head, he said why did you go for suzuki waste bike. I said LOl! You have not seen this b4, how can u say blindly. After he test drove it he loved it. Its not our job to make others buy GSR. It their choice. If people go on asking silly meaningless questions then we shut up cos they can't

You guys having tried power mode, did you find any difference in performance except allowing to rev upto 8k???

                            • Choke !

Since i have installed R1100 kn filter (bike is coming tomorrow after all the mods) without upjetting, the tuning of fuel screw to richer side(anti-clockwise) will take care of fuel-air mixing ration in lower end.

But since i have not done rejetting, the mixture will be lean at middle and top end.

will running the bike at PARTIAL CHOKE at medium and low end solve my lean mixture problem?? (forgive my innocence)

you aren't exaggerated its true Check old pages on our thread

this power mode in GS is not like the TVS power and eco mode

GS150R power mode directly works with carb see your carb just close to the golden screw you will see wires connected to it

those wires sets the fuel air mixture according to power / eco mode

sounds amazing right enjoy riding safely
