Thanks once again for the effort and clarity in your summing up.
Why are you thanking me? I should be grateful to you and so do others, if not you who would have known this. The credit is for you buddy

Professional racing engine are all natural aspirated high revving engines, so they should have high air flow filters. Also they are using higher compression ratios. Are you trying to say that K&N is not the best high flow filter? Or The filtering efficiency is given the highest priority than high flow?

        • Oil Change

Hey Madhu, Great articles buddy. Congrats on your posting.

My GSR had clocked 2000km & needed a oil change desperately. the engine was getting very rough. As i could not find motul, gulf or shell 20w40 oil, i went for motul 15w50 (this was only available in my area). Now after 300km the engine is better, but still rough. I also experienced sudden jerks at times.

The question will 15w50 do or should i go for a 20w40. i dont mind wasting the current oil.

Tomorrow i am planning to go to the motorbike spare parts market (the biggest in mumbai - Grant Road) where i am sure will get any oil i need.

          • KN airfilter.......the air intake modification.

Because they don't need them !!!! You brought out names which have separate factory for racing developments, these are not road tuned engines.
They have turbo-chargers,air induction systems,cold-air intake systems and air-filters which are specifically made to suit racing engines and are perfected at factory settings. But for the custom market things are different.
Custom market focuses on rapid power gain on non standardized units,so they buy after market stuff off the shelf.
You will find some Subarus and Mitsubishis using after market turbo or KN air intake systems. But no one would mess with the Veyron(W16),it does not need tuning.
Even supercars like Skyline GTR,Toyota Supra,Honda Acura NSX and BMW M3s are tuned too, with NOs and in line turbo air intake systems.
The now non-produced Mclaren F1 runs on nothing but the tuned-hyper charged BMW M-series engine, even its air intake system was tuned !!!!.....maybe not by KN,but by some other company, but it was tuned too.

And when it comes to bikes, the fastest road legal bike on earth is a Turbo Charged Suzuki Hayabusa grossing 412kmph,which can be bought off Suzuki's shelf easily with few more grands than the normal price, even its air intake system is modified.

KN provides affordable air-intake modification system. They are the best so they attract most criticism unlike HP or Uni.

Anyone having questions about the KN performance and the safety of using their filters, please refer to a more scientific method which explains the tech from the factory here :

my GS is almost a month old, will be giving it for 1st service this weekend. 300+ kms done, and 3 times(it was my first time riding a bike :P),so the crash guard and brske and clutch levers are scratched, not much damage, cos i was going at 10-15 kmph on an empty road :P no damage was done to the body of the bike, though the part of the headlight was slightly scratched, im facing some, issues with the bike,
firstly, the gears are not hitting properly, even if i hold the clutch completely and try shifting gears it doesnt fall propperly, and when it does, it make a really loud "TACK" sound, finding first gear makes me take atleast a minute!! i need to keep shifting to zero and back until it shows "1" on the gear indicator!!
Secondly, the bike starts shaking after 50 kms, i dunno why, i havent gone above 55 kmph on the bike, cos its still in run in!
also, the bike keeps stopping when i try to warm up the engine in the morning!!
could these problems be because of the falls? or is it just with the bike?
yea, and im new to bikes, cos no one in my family has a bike, so i had to learn on this only, and whenever im in any gear, and i accelerate to about 4k rpm, and then let the rpm come down to like 2.5-3k, and accelerate again, i feel the bike pulling me with a jerk!! is this normal? am i doing something wrong?
would like to get some help, thanks in advance!!
3 times what ?? you fell ??...careful buddy...well i wouldn't recommend any one to learn to ride with this beast (gs 150 r) as it is one of the heaviest bike...since you've already started you would've get adjusted with it now i hope....
                coming to the issues..

gear shifting - yours is still in run in...so WAIT...and how it is difficult for you to find first gear ..if you say it is difficult to find neutral then it is o.k..it is just matter of time..are you familiar with the 6 gear pattern..1 down and five up..since you said this is your first bike in your family i'm asking this...and use good engine oil..the gears will get smoother..

shaking after 50 - i guess it would be 3500 rpm when you hit 50 kmph at 6th gear...in that case all gs150 r has some vibrations at 3500 - 4000 rpm..it is normal...go past beyond 4000 rpm or 60 kmph and check whether the shakes are there..if it is yes then there is some problem...

warm up- thats because of cold start..don't worry it is present in all bikes..push the accelerator a bit more when engine sounds like it's gonna die..

engine jerk - i too have that same problem like the petrol flow stops for a second and engine jerks..and we are not the only two with that problem ..my sc didn't resolve this problem..i think it's the problem with engine tuning...

                  Thanks brother,

Dont change the second part in oil grade, always stick to xx w - 40 grade.

Even if you wont get motul or gulf just make sure its jaso ma2 standard spec on the oil can and it should be mineral oil with 20w-40

On the above said spec you can get either valvolin, elf, gulf and mobile
Sorry almost all shell mineral oils aren't jaso ma 2 they are just jaso ma only.

The link you have provided is the K&N home page..What do you expect except self proclaimed superiority ? The point I was trying to make is that NONE OF THE FACTORY BUILT AIR FILTER USES TECHNOLOGY DEPENDENT ON OIL SOAKED COTTON ,LIKE K&N.
Have you found any Technical write up on the benefit of using K&N WITH PROVEN STATISTIC DATA OF IT'S SUPERIOR FILTERING,WHICH IS WHAT AN AIR FILTER IS FOR....If you still want to use it ..go ahead it is your choice.
Turbo charging is no longer allowed in F1 circuit.Mclaren is still in F1.

Ease up on the caps buddy, before the mods chase you down for so.

                          Apart from that,
As I told already,MclarenF1 was a road car.
F1 is a different sport,it has most state of art intake systems to maintain the stringent A/F ratio..............the cost of a F1 machine is more than even few of us can afford.

KN Corp insists that their test data for a particular vehicle would be made available only on a written request from the customer.

                          However,here I bring a generalized Data:

I think these data are more than a daily rider can digest or understand.

I have already used KN product on Suzuki engines and even on the R15,they compliment each other.

                            • Yeah I second psr, no forced air intakes are allowed in professional racing as they make engines too powerful to handle. Only natural aspirated air intakes are allowed.

Thanks dude. The sound really makes me worry as it seems to be coming from the engine. It is more or less like a piston shaft or spring coil getting released. The sound decreased after some time..
