kisooraj what i was suggesting was not depending on the quality of the bulb but on the light spectrum.Yellowish lights of below 5000K are known to give better penetration under smoke or fog condition..that is why the yellow lights are called fog lights.Originally posted by kjsooraj View PostThanks for the quick reply..

I had already checked about the effect of blue light, but I am investing on it thinking branded items will give better results than cheap blue bulb available in market

Can you comment on specific servicing tips for 6th paid service...
Regarding specific service tips for the 6th paid service , it will be listed in your user manual..just follow it.
Spark plugs need change every 10,000 Kms,Engine oil at 1000 Kms,during run in initial period, and after every 3,000 or 5,000 Kms as mentioned in the manual.Frequent oil change will not damage the engine..BUT NOT DOING IT WILL. Cleaning of Air Filter is done every 1,500 Kms if you live in dusty environment or every 3,000Kms.Drive Chain to be checked and lubricated every 1,500 Kms. General check up of lubrication of cables, and tightening of bolts...these are some of the things to be done routinely for all bikes. When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

[QUOTE=kjsooraj;531878]Hi guys...
BTW my GS is giving 50+ mileage on sane riding and ~45 kmpl on rash riding..Which I think is reasonable...
Also I have found a pair of Osram Coolblue 55W bulbs for Rs.1000, which I plan to fit after disconnecting the pilot lamps. Will it affect the battery??
Better change your spark plug and air filter. It is not absolutely necessary to change the fork oil now, if the forks are going fine. Your free services are over and you can easily do these replacements and other oiling and greasing yourself. The plug costs Rs. 100/- and the air filter just above Rs. 260/-.
The mileage cannot be said to be good. Practice a little and bring it above 60 kml. You can easily attain it.
About changing of the bulb. The problem is not the bulb but the parabolic multi-focus reflector which cannot be replaced. Unless you get the coil re-winded, a mere change of the bulb, whether Osram, Philips, Halonix or anyone else will not give significant result. I mean, the result will be a ridiculous tiny mouse. You will get a slight improvement if you replace the RR unit to AA series.
GS is well balanced for both mileage and performance. So any alterations and modifications will affect it adversely.
As you are replacing the plug, why can’t try iridium plug? I can’t recommend it now but I am using it for the past 1000 kms. Not yet sure about the results. Castrol Power 1 oil (15W40, part synthetic) is a better suggestion. I have used it for 1,00,000 kms in my Suzuki Fiero. Now using it in both my Fiero and GS. Try. It costs RS. 279/-.
You are having a trouble free bike. So try to avoid all kind of modifications. Strictly avoid carburetor retuning.
Have a nice day.Last edited by vishnukmd; 11-22-2010, 06:00 AM.

To get the exact mileage, give a fixed quantity of petrol to the dry carburettor using the apparatus meant for it. Other methods such as full tank to full tank, reserve to reserve etc. will not give a correct figure. You can lend the apparatus from your service centre. They will tell you what to do. As you say that you are running the bike in Eco mode, please check your mileage thrice by giving the same amount of fuel in Eco, Pwr and the so called GOD (God the almighty knows what it means) modes and check the results.Originally posted by clanx View PostHey Guys,
Today I got the opportunity to check the mileage of my bike. I know checking this will not show any thing on the long run before 1st service...But curiosity and circumstances made me to dothis..Today morning my bike came to reserve near petrol bunk.. I filled petrol for 60 Rs..1.04 litres..I covered around 50 kms and the bike is still running in Main..
I don't expect to get more than 55 kms(It's rainy season in chennai and roads in my area are really very bad.. I often need to go in 2nd and 3rd gears which will drink petrol..). I am really happy with this factor..I hope this will get maintained in the long run.. I plan to check the mileage once again before giving it for first service in another 20 days(Just to calculate the mileage before and after 1st service)
Btw .I am running the vehicle in Eco mode..
Anyhow, 55kml is a notable mileage. Polish your driving habits to get more mileage, if you are not a street racer or a member of a circus group. Some use the bike for riding; some others use for stunts. That is the difference and the difference is huge.
I am from an interior village and am an illiterate, especially in case of computer. That leads me to utter blunders, such as quoting my own posting etc. Kindly pardon.
But I am not much desperate about it. My prophesier, political gurus have foretold and promised that the villages will move, surround, capture and rule the cities. We are waiting for that golden days for the past 8 or 9 decades. But as we all are Indians, we must observe AHIMSA. That is the cause of the delay. AHIMSA PARAMO DHARMA.
All the best. Nice day.

Thanks dude. I agree that the mileage we check will not be accurate as of the apparatus.. I plan to check the mileage in other 2 modes.. Meanwhile I crossed 55 km and the petrol is still in main ..If it crosses 60 i will be very damed and I wonder whether to give it for service??Originally posted by vishnukmd View PostTo get the exact mileage, give a fixed quantity of petrol to the dry carburettor using the apparatus meant for it. I am yet to get synchronized to the tune of gs 150 r(Not the sound of the vehicle..)... I find it very difficult to ride it in low gears.. I find myself at 4th gear in 20-30 ..Last edited by clanx; 11-22-2010, 11:09 AM.Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by its breathtaking moments.
