Do you really think BS29 would differ from BS26 by that much ???? !!! In this case its 150ml of fuel to be vaporised
    I am not really using a BS32 or a Car's carburettor for God's sake !!!!

Its just slightly more ,may not be a fuel efficient mod though.

I was referring to the Venturi velocity drop if you switch from bs26 to bs29,without engine mod ...I guess you still did not understand what I am saying...I rest ...no more on this..

      • BS26 or BS29 they are cousines i believe

I am not an expert in this domain but regarding the carburator thing I would like to share my view with you guys

Again this is my view / opinion am not insisting anyone to do nor recommending it over something else.

Their are products available in market to stop people snoring.

My dad snoring loudly as he has blockage in breathing canall in his nose.
This product (device) slightly (it won't break his nose) expands his breathing canal so as air goes in and comes out with out block so the sound goes off and he also breathes aramsee

Similar to this BS29 will do a better job, that's what I assume

Am not an automobile expert nor been with any auto sector manufacturers,

so I don't know the exact jargon to use here that's why am telling this in layman term

P.S. i still don't know why i've made this analysis..may be just for time pass...
You did what I couldn't do. All the values I provided was from the respective websites. GS seems bigger and everyone says its bulky without really going through the specs. The wider saddle makes it difficult for shorter guys(like me <5 7") to ground legs which again add to the bulky character of the bike.

But once its starts rolling I have noticed I dont have to keep my foot down as low as 3Kmph. So its well balanced

          -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guys my point of view about BS26 & BS29 (purely IMO).

While browsing Internet I came through a website called mototuneusa run by one Pat aka motoman. There he have mentioned about port velocity. Many believe the bigger the ports are, better it is. In racing the engine is set to work efficiently at higher rpms (>8000 rpm). Its power band starts from 8K to 14K. At higher rpms, due to its weight air-fuel mixture wont gush to cylinder. So the valve timings are advanced (and also delayed)to compensate.

On the downward motion, piston creates a vaccum the air-fuel mixture gushes into it. Now if we make the ports bigger the velocity in which air moves into cylinder will reduce and since the intake valves are not closed after reaching the bottom most point, on the upward motion of piston some of the air-fuel is pushed out of the cylinder. But if we make the ports smaller the initial filling of the cylinder will be low but just about when the piston reached the BDC(Bottom Dead Centre) the air will start gushing with high velocity that very few air will be pushed out even if the piston is moving up.

The same thing can be applied to BS29 & BS26, in BS 29 the port velocity is low than 26. Unless the engine capacity is high the velocity wont be high enough to get an advantage. So I think it will be better to stick to stock one.

But as Mach said anyone is free to make a modification. The world has reached the way it is now because there was always guys like him who had a different perspective .

          • Hi Guys,

I am planning another long trip this weekend. Planning to go to Mahabaleshwar in this chilling cold. Another 600+ trip with pillion & luggage.

Mumbai GSPians: I wanted to know whether the petrol price in Mahabaleshwar is cheaper than Mumbai? I pay around 65 for Power (HP petrol) in Navi Mumbai. Also since it will be extremely cold, I guess the petrol density will be the highest there. Right?

So does it make sense to fill tank at Mahabaleshwar & get the maximum benefit of fuel price & fuel density?

BTW when & where is the Mumbai G2G happening? Any news?

curious to know how much you saved for 600+ trip in fuel cost ...In my home town the petrol cost 57Rs for normal petrol But if the crude price reach more than 100$ than expect another rise of 4 Rs

In my trip to mahabhaleshwar 2 weeks back, i found Lonawala/khandala offering 2 Rs less than mumbai. I found these rates in return journey.

                Lonawala/khandala - 58.4Rs
                Panvel - 58.8Rs
                Pune - 58.8Rs

I am not observed at mahabhaleshwar. So You can consider Lonawala is better place.

All the best and have a great trip..., please go slow on express heighway stretch (5 KM) bcz there is very high level cross wind before lonawala exit

                  a few questions though:
                  1) Gears feel to tight and changing gears requires a lot of effort. Never observed any of such problems with any other bike in house before. Agreed that bike is new and clearances need to be set in order to smoothen their operation...but it's way too much tight in my opinion. expert comments pls.
                  2) Engine sounds harsh when revved a little...but i guess thats natural given the tight fit between Cyl. wall n piston.
                  3) Headlight beam is good IMO. much better than my discover.
                  4) every pillion complained about very high rear seat. but driver seat comfort is really good.
                  5) Rear brake is good, provides sufficient braking power in all conditions.
                  6) Lost tool kit holding rubber strip on day 1 itself. Since bike was washed n there was water inside toolkit i removed it, but forgot to put the strip back in position n lost it

anyways...thats the day one with bike...Bought it from Simran Wheels, Panvel for Rs. 69405 OTR.

Congrats...Bro...on the GS purchanse...I too bought the same color last week...its the best one IMO...
Well I am not sure about the gear change...but for me it was good...the gears are quite smooth and not much effort is required to change the gears....
Better once contact the SVC people about it....otherwise try for another 3-4 days...with riding it may get smoother....
Anywa the bike looks awsome...but where are the number plates...????

                    • too much gear travel

@guru: I have purchased it yesterday only. Registration will take about a week or so...i'll talk to SC ppl about gears issue...my bike was just 1.5km run at the time of delivery....what was your ODO reading @ delivery??
Also i have a query: my bike's gear lever needs too much travel to shift gears...is it same with all new GSs??

Congrats and welcome to the communiy. It seems like many are preferring Greenish Blue over Black and orange.......(mine is a BG)

On posting images choose the option "Insert Image". It seems like you used "Insert link".

About the travel of gear level, you mean you have to press the lever more to get the gear changed rite. The more the travel the less the overall effort is. You will get used to it with time. Its not a problem actually. If you havent dont registration yet dont run your bike, there are some complications if your ODO reads more than 50Km. In my place a dealer will deliver bikes only after registration.

                          • engine jerking problem

some time before one or two months, many guys including me experienced engine jerking problem...after riding some kms the engine will jerk like the petrol flow stops for a second and then it resumes....like when it is coming to the reserve...i hope many guys resolved that issue..for those who didn't, the problem is with dust particles in carburetor (in my case)...during my last service i told this issue and the mechanic drained the carburetor and since then i've not encountered that problem...there were some dust particles and little amount of water droplets in my carburetor...

                            • Just some suggestions

                              @Turbo Bikr
I am not sure about Jains as never been there... Have been for service to SMK(free) once and ABT thrice (2 free 1 paid). Rest was Castrol Bike Zone and also an engg buddy of mine from school who works for Merc SC, and ... I have to agree with you on ABT . They are simply the worst in service... I bought ma bike from Cochin with only 1st service done there.

Nowadays my bike gets unscheduled service done by my school buddy free . He did his mech engg. from NIT Surat and is employed with Merc. He boasts he can disassemble and built back a bike within a day... and he does " service " imported bikes though the closest he got was Ninja250 which belongs to another buddy of mine in chennai Every weekend I try to learn a lot from him about motors... and these will be missed once in noida BTW the bike he own is a TVS Star City though he makes a good $$$

After service done by ABT/SMK, bike will feel fresh for only week or two max... But when done by my buddy, you feel it lasts for months . He does what the ABT/SMK SC are supposed to do... and if done correctly, I bet you will FEEL the difference instantly .

IMHO Castrol BZ to be better than SMK and far far better than ABT.

After each ABT service, I have returned for following issues:
                              ~ Idle RPM at 4K
~ Billed for oil change without it ever done.
~ Scratches on tank and silencer (their reason was service room is congested so such things are bound to happen... try telling that to busa owner.... finally Mr.Satish did some touch up which really was useless)
~ They even lost my bike docs and my clutch cable was not smooth... Finally after 2 days they relocated my bike papers and cable had to be changed, wonder whether they even check cable upon service.
~ Chain just oiled, not cleaned ... my bike chain was filled with dirt though it was paid service (that was the last instance there)

The problem is at ABT youngsters do the work and they may be average street mechanics... SMC is far better with people who seem in the mid 40s and much better workplace... but nothing beats work done by an owner or a trusted mechanic with passion.... You will FEEL the difference right away

BTW Turbo biker I should be free this weekend (how i Looveee friday night ) Perhaps we can meet up at some place ?
