unbelievable for me.....as i finished a good run in period as instructed in manual.....even no one else rode it but me, and its rpm at idle is as set as it was on the day of purchase-1.4

plz help me what cud be the reason
i m really helpless as i am the only GS owner in my city and nearest service station is 150 km away in dehradun where the service guys know nothing which was evident when i was there for my bikes servicing.
        Idle RPM should be at
        cold engine @ 1000-1100 RPM
        Warm engine @ 1500 -1600 RPM

The 1.4 rpm mentioned by you are a warm one or cold one?

        • Hard gearshifts on my GS

@Jayantnarangkar: hey even i stay in Thane, n have same hard gears problem with my GS. Till now i've ridden 100+Km, but there's no difference in gearshifts. i cant pull the lever up for say goin from 1st to 2nd n so...have to push heel shifter hard for upshifting..same is the case for downshifting with toe shifter.
Earlier i thought may be oil is not warm enough causing hard gears, but yesterday i rode for almost 45km at a stretch with varying rpm, changing gears...but all in vein....I understand gears are hard in a new bike, but this hard even my frnds bullet has better shifts guys can anyone pls tell what could be the possible reasons? AFAIK gears are hardened to withstand transmission forces.
          some reasons i think are:
          1. very close fit between meshing dog teeth
          2. poor engine oil quality
          3. clutch disengagement seems proper, but i may be wrong
correct me if i am wrong
anything that can go wrong will surely go wrong at the wrong time and the wrong place

Dude.. i completed that 200 kms in city trafic.. so i required frequent gear shifting...
ride it more.. and ride slow as it is in run-in period...
it will get smoother soon.. even i suffer from this problem for three days but now its smooth..

by d way.. wer do u stay in thane.. I live at G.B. Road
            we can meet each other..

I too changed my oil before the first sevice..... I had bought the bike on 12th of this month.....
It has till now completed abot 350 kms....I changed the oil....I bought Petronas...mineral oil....it cost me 180 Bucks....

As Madhu bhai said...it is always better to change the oil in the first 3-4 services...as frequent as possible....

You can go for any good mineral oil...do not go for semi-synth or synth oil now....Mineral oil is the best ...
You can go for Motul.....Petronas..... Valvoline....oe Gulf also...any good minieral oil meeting the Jaso MA2 standards will do.....

                        • Hard Breaking

This morning while going to office near kalanagar unexpectedly an old man entered on main carriageway, to avoid hitting i braked hard while braking my GS's rear wheel started slipping and started drawing "S" shape on road. however i controlled it and saved myself and bike. why rear wheel is slipping? later i applied the same braking on rough surface i didn't faced as last one!
can anyone clarify why and how should i apply hard breaking?

                          Comment

                          • It seems like you applied both brakes and the rear wheel locked up. On sudden braking the weight shifted to the front and since the weight is taken from the rear even a moderate force could lock the rear wheel.

Suzuki intentionally provided drum brakes at rear as they wont lock up as the disc brakes. Even then it locked up, you need to practice on hard braking. The more we apply the front brake, the less we should apply the rear brake. Practice this till we wont lock up the rear tires. Once the tire lock ups we cannot control the bike.

Ideally the braking should be gradual. We start applying pressure gradually and then keep on increasing to the maximum. Even in the panic situation, we should do so in atleast two steps. These are all just theory, we have to practice and practice to make this a muscle memory.

                            • yes, you are right! i applied both breaks, i always apply break this ratio 60:40 (rear:front) this is not first time for me, thanks for your valuable reply...

After delivery it will take another 8 days to get the permanent no. (as per the dealer as he has to give the chasis no. at RTO).. So il be able to ride fully only in Feb.
