This is regarding headlight once again. I had searched for silverstar in mangalore without any result.
So had asked my relative in Bangalore to have a visit to some shops there. This was around 10 days ago. Yesterday he telephoned me and said, he searched everywhere, but could not get it, ultimately ended with buying nightbreaker for me He told he bought it for 650 RS after hard bargain(shop man initially quoted 850 rs.).
Ill get this bulb within 10 days, when my relative come down to mangalore.
HAVE ANYBODY USED NIGHTBREAKER HL bulb? IF ANYONE IS HERE, PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE.
i would like to use the number plate light dc source to power the pilot lamps and power up my HL source. after this arrangement want to test this nightbreaker...any suggestions
Cool let us know after you tried it.

The default bulb brightness is very low and its very difficult for me to ride in the late evening. Sometimes i even rely on other vehicles light

Also, can anyone tell me steps how to calculate milaege using Reserve- reserve method ? ( i know this is silly question but i hav no idea )

      • when you are riding when it comes to reserve, immediately make your trip meter zero.
      • Then fill in 1 liter(easy to calculate) fuel from nearby petrol bunk
      • Monitor when your bike comes to reserve again. watch your trip meter. thats the r-r method.

I follow this method and iam getting 55 plus mileage

Okay, This situation usually happens to me...what if when i hit reserve and i no more can move in the main tank and also there in no petrol pump in 2- 3 kms ?

          i didnt get you properly.
i assume, you mean to describe a situation where after hitting reserve you don't have a petrol bunk near by and you have to travel 3-4 kmts.
In that case also nothing really matters. The counting starts from the moment your engine sees reserve.
          Hope i clarified your doubts.

Thanks and you assumed it right.

In coming week, i have to fill petrol for full tank for a long trip. How much litres should i tell the petrol guy to fill? How do i know this ? Is it enough if i just say full tank and they will fill upto the brim ?

            • take a count of the approximate/exact kilometers you travel and in travel you can get around 45-50 kmpl mileage in ideal conditions. Accordingly you can fill the tank.

Did you fill from a reputed bunk ?
Did you calculate mileage from full tank to reserve anytime ?

I just got a doubt after reading that post.
I usually fill only 200rs petrol becaus when i fill more i tend to get less mileage, may be because of high evaporation

ya from reputed bunk(pondycherry government owned), According to my SC he told me to fill tank and drive for 150km then fill it again, but me filled at 225km on trip and got 53kmpl....I ride this 225 km in 1 week so....

Even me got same confustion ...forget abt full tank....If i fill 4 ltr it always gave me less mileage compare to 2 ltr fill. My town is more hoter than bangalore. so evaporation is faster than you...
                  Many times false reserves again
A true 200ml test with ur carburetor drained will provide you almost accurate mileage figures otherwise tank full to 200km and fill again...
Anyway after another 500km i m going to fill full and try my current mileage(after bore and piston change)

                  • Tappet noise or Silence packing seal leak noise

Tappet noise or Silence packing seal leak noise

Silencer packing (at the place where silence is connected )

As said earlier this morning I am not sure about the noise and got confused as it seems to be noise comming from engine.

Even I did checked with fellow gspian manubhatt he also seem to suggest like it may be a tappet loose noise. (What to both aren't experianced in finding tappet noise)

After checking with my expert local mechanic he proved it was silencer packing loose noise and no need to worry much but have to take to svc for a fix
                    How he proved it ?

If we close the silencer exhaust bike will stop immediately, he did that on my bike and the interesting part happened
Yes bike did not stopped and smoke (which is invisible in our bike) is comming out thru the leak place and also the sound was bit more and able to hear that from the packing place
Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

The top speed. No mention about it in the service manual. But I think it will be a bit difficult to reach above a real 115 kmh with a foolproof speedometer.
The sensors. The GS have no side wall sensors in its fuel tank. There is no fuel meter which will show the exact measurement of fuel in the tank. It shows only an approximate amount and please note that it has nothing to do with the performance of the bike.
I too am a simple owner of GS 150R, purchased in January 2010 and have covered 9700 kms on it. I like its every aspect but the head light. The light is not converging; it is spreading. I have tried to rectify this problem with a thrown away head light assembly and different bulbs, but fruitless. The problem is not with the bulb but with the reflector. To get a better focus you will have to change the reflector, which is not easy as the reflector alone cannot be changed. The only way is to change to a higher wattage bulb with a coil rewinding. Nothing else will permanently solve the problem. This modification too will adversely affect the overall performance of the bike.
The best way to estimate the mileage is to supply a specific amount of fuel to a dry carburettor. It needs a bottle with measurement marks and a tube to connect it to the carburettor. Ask your SC mechanic and he may give one for temporary usage with necessary instructions. Drive in your usual style in the usual route. You will get an accurate result. If it is poor, try to improve.
I have to tell something more about my previous two wheelers. Later.
                      All the best.

oh..interesting...is this leak inside the exhaust pipe or outside?
                        got it fixed?

                          • Changed oil and filter

hey guys, just changed my oil with the oil filter myself. I have completed 250kms and the oil was pretty black. few metal chips too as can be seen in one of the pics. Filled Motul 3000 4T plus 20w40 . Will update after a few kms of usage. I didnt clean the strainer screen though(requires removal of the right side engine case). Will do that at about 800 kms.

                              • xenon lamp on default headlamp

While posting the previous entry I was in millers road suzuki service center lobby,

Asked them to connect pilot lamps to DC so as can put a bright 55 watt bulb

Servicing supervisor said that's not at all required

Said philips has 2 xenon bulbs in 35/35 range

I asked him police will catch if they see xenon brightness

                                Here comes the interesting part

He told their is philips xenon bulb which has xenon for long and normal one for low

Is that true anyway it sounds good let me try searching
