Congrats "GREEN GSPIAN" very friendly to mother nature.....

@ gspian who used "mobile 1"-----Today i came to see mobile 1 4t in a oil shop...and its api is "SG" and jaso is "MA". we have other brands like motul, veedol 4t take off etc....which have superior specifications.

1)how is fares vis a vis motul in terms of performance and drain interval? cost?(the guy quoted 260)
2)how it is performing in this summer heat?

It is definitely special in comparison to the bikes which are not GS150R.....and did you just begun questioning my activities here ????

Hope you remember the feeling well too........atleast that would keep you from getting curious whether I remember it.

Also, I do not like to proceed in conversations that are not related to the GS150R and biking here at Xbhp.Hence it is a request to you, being a friend, please do not be a subject of my ignorance.

      • good breaks

Today noon returning home after having a jolly ride for my kid on GS.

A stree with uneven road where kids are playing, I was at 40 or 35 kmph speed all of sudden a 13 yrs old boy crossed me so closely, applied both the breaks GS comes to halt but I was not able to control the sudden halt, I know we are going to fall, so holded my kids head and body trying to save him from injury, successfully saved him.

GS got slight scratch marks on silence stainless steel plate and few scratches on the handle bar weight, I got injury on right leg toe finger

All are safe thank u all

The choke is there in the bike to aid you on starting only and use it only when the engine is cold. Normally No need to use it when starting a warm engine.

Warm up is important for long engine life too!

Riding with chock on just once in a while is not bad but if you ride the bike with choke on for long distance and after that if you find any difference in the way your bike responds or sounds or behaves then do consult SVC, it may be serious issue or in most times just cleaning the stuffs will do...
          Thanks Bro for the reply.

I think I made this mistake. I'm not sure. Because two days before I noticed that the choke is ON and Normally I used to start my bike without it. So not sure when it moved.

My 3rd service is due this Saturday. I've covered around 5200 KMs and twice I've to drive it little harsh manner(shifting gears repeatedly). Now I noticed a difference in mileage. its 50KMPL now. Earlier it was 58-60 consistently. I think this may be due to riding with choke ON. Bike sound also changed a little. Hope this may get solved after servicing...

            • @madhu: good that you and your kid are safe man.

I hate to say it but I had my first accident as a kid almost like that.....While immersed in playing cricket, I went head on into the middle of a busy street trying to catch a ball...before I knew it, I was sent flying by a speeding scooter into whose path I had suddenly appeared....luckily, I wasnt injured except for some minor wounds. But it could have easily been worse despite my luck.

So, I guess its always beter to sound horn while approaching children who, without such a proper shock to their system, will rarely notice anything outside their own worlds.

The first mistake was returning the carburettor yourself. Only a few mechanics other than professionals are capable of doing it. Approach the sc manager and get it tuned again using gas analyser and digital tachometer by an experienced mechanic and check the mileage with 200-300 ml fuel in a jar provided for it.

As far I know GS is provided with hydraulic tappets to keep the right clearance and hence no need to adjust it.
So, before adjusting it, consult the sc manager and ask him what to do.

As far as my knowledge goes... API SL/SM & JASO MA2 are recommended grades... however, closer ones(API SJ/SK/SL & JASO MA) will do just fine if you could find them...

Usually kids to be blamed.. In my case when my owner's kids are around I always find something out of place. Kabhi indicators to kabhi fuel value.. luckily they don't let off the air from tubes... However, it's a good exercise to check b4 you take your bike out..

Another possibility: you're a victim of an envious rival...

After getting the licence I plan to buy a GS and take a solo trip from Chennai to Kanyakumari.

Would appreciate any guidance you can give me regarding the best routes, places to stay, necessary gear to carry etc.. bearing in mind that the journey is more important than the destination and I would really like to avoid the cities where possible.

                      Thanks in advance.
Good that you decided on a GS man as your first bike. However, this is a thread for ownership related discussions on the GS. When you buy the GS, do come here and share your joys and sorrows of owning it.

But please post your trip\route related queries in the tourers section. I believe they may be able to help you out better.

Although, I do have a suggestion regarding your trip. Since youve learnt to ride just now, and moreover decided to buy a brand new bike, I think attempting a 600+ kms 'long' on such grounds would be a bit of overdose. First of all, get some local riding experience, go on short highway runs, trips within 50-100 kms around chennai....that would expose you to our traffic and road conditions as well as the behaviour and handling of your new bike. Jumping from a barely 100 kg 100c cc to a 150 kilo 150cc is no easy task for a newbie. Take this chance to also run your bike in well and learn some good riding techniques. This would also give you time to assess and buildup your mental and physical endurance too which is very important on such long rides.

So consider this suggestion and any further queries regarding your trip, make it in the appropriate section. As for anything related to the GS, youre welcome here. Good luck man.

                      Lucky man..
                      Lucky kid.

Oh you mean the man riding the scooter? yeah. Any worse and it would have been FIR against the guy after a nice 'aeroplane'ing by the locals. :P

Check with SVC; can't suggest anything apart from that because untill we hear that dirty sound its not sure for us tell what's the problem,

I agree with 2stokerama...not a good idea to take a new bike for a long haul trip..you can try to ask for directions in the travellogue thread...when you buy your GS let us know..

@all..i have driven 160 km in reserve..and my bike usually gives only 48-50 kmpl..when i went to fill my tank up today it took in 17.5 lts..so did i just get (160/2.6=61kmpl?)

Even I used splendor before gettng GS, don't rush just keep praticing and learn good riding habbits, because on long riding we can't learn everything by experiance (esspecially how to face an encounter with govt bus or with lorry drivers)

Even with the car first I tried 100 kms trip then 150 kms.... Then 300 and the latest one done was 500 kms

Am not discoraging your long trip dream, don't try a long trip immidiatly try a short trip and increase the journey distance step by step, because sometimes even if the machine is ready the man's health goes bad durring long trips.

take a look at the threads where they posted long trip blogs

Don't just look at the amazing photo's do read about the huddles they faced.
