Nothing is new As i am learning from this forum as much as possible.Originally posted by KIRTIMANNAN View Postdescribe your riding style plz?? mileage you are getting are pretty good...
-> maintain RPM range in between 4K-5K
-> Maintaining air pressure as recommended (Weekly checkup)
-> 1 min warming of bike in the morning without accelaration
-> as less as using of clutch while in low gears(2nd and 3rd gears). beware dont put stress on engine in low gears it can leads to knocking and finally bike stops.
Always tries to control speed with accelarator first then brakes as last option. One more thing my bike never given below 55 mileage in both mumbai and Hyd city riding

Besides, check the carburetor plug adapter/cap to ensure that it is not loose or shorting.
what's carb plug cap? are you suggesting Spark plug cap?
from my experience with this shorted cap, there are symptoms which show spark plug cap is shorting:
1. less power/ pick-up
2. spark leaking noise
but anyways i will check it if you say so.
You are like the Doctors: diagnosing others illness and treating them and get treated themselves by other Doctors; advising others and seeking advise at the same time.

These are my opinions about your problems:
I do not try to hear sounds, but i wear a helmet which blocks wind noise completely, so all the sound i hear is bikes engine sound and whining noise above 60kmph. still wonder what this noise is as chain has recommended tightness and air pressure is maintained correct.
3. The vibration is due to the misalignment of the visor. Replace the visor nuts (these are not reusable) and tighten the bolts properly. Try to do it yourself; don’t depend the mechanic.
It wasn't due to visor, this loose rear wheel was tightened by mechanic, and vibrations in handle are reduced significantly. I mean i feel vibrations in 6000 to 7500 rpm when i leave throttle while decelerating. these vibrations are more like vibes in 3000-4500 rpm band.
4. Stop toe gear shifting as our bike’s gear is not designed for toe shifting.
what!!!!

this was the last thing i would expect from a person like you. I have seen many GS owners who have cut heel shifter and stopping toe shifting is definitely not the answer.
5. Re-adjust the clutch if you have already adjusted it. Anyhow, it is never as soft to handle as some other soft things.
Clutch on my bike has become too hard, it really takes some effort to press clutch lever...
I do not think clutch plates are worn out as there is no loss of power, pickup or bike never struggles to gain speed.
Clutch has been adjusted thrice in last week but still shifts are same.
6. As you said, it is not a Honda engine and hence we cannot expect the same noise from it. The noise you mentioned when the engine is hot and when it is riding in high speed is due to some other reasons and cannot be diminished. Neglect it or as adi231189 advised, use a soundproof helmet.
I checked noise of my bike with one more GS having similar ODO reading...and I AM HAPPY TO KNOW IT SOUNDS NORMAL

7. Almost all the tyres are of the same nature. It is because the water, gravel and mud are slippery and our tyres are made of hard compound rubber and zapper y is comparatively better. I think a single tyre which can be used in wet, dry, gravelly and muddy roads are not available. But soft compound tyres from Michelin or Pirelli are better, safer ones but are costly and having lesser life.
I think MRF Zapper Q can be used in most of the terrain, barring heavy sand & mud where we need button tires. Testing zapper Q on Apache RTR160, couldn't find 100/90 - 18, so fitted 110/90 Zap Q on apache.
It has loads of grip both in dry and wet.
even mileage has affected just by 2km. (this i have checked by bottle method.) I dont have that sum to go for a new tire on GS as used tires don't fetch much.

Great work!!

awesome explaination regarding braking.......well riding constant above 110 will give you that kindof efficiency....you can expect something better under the conditions mentioned.......and NH3 is the heaven for bikers from shahapur onwards.....you feel the rush in your body when you easily cruise by the cars(zens/omni/800 type ones) with 100kmph on speedo

Day before yesterday a Tata Indica crashed into me because of this.I was turning right with indicators on by a traffic island, when the bike began to splutter,so normally it lost its speed while the Indica which was following me just caved into me and broke its right headlight on the exhaust of GS150R.But nothing happened to me and the GS150R suffered dented heat shield and scratch to exhaust. It would take more than that for anything serious to happen while riding a GS150R but still, since I leave home with my return entrusted to God,who knows it was his blessing too.
So specially after a high speed jaunt,if such a problem occurs while the momentum is still high....it can be serious, since I won't be in control of the situations always or may not be lucky too.
This is a problem which is really irritating.
I cannot take it lightly when I see the serious side of this issue.
Even i have faced similar situations many a times at junctions. It is dangerous.People may feel i complain about NANO issues, but my complains are mainly about plus points of GS for which i bought this bikeOriginally posted by vishnukmd View PostThese visor nuts losses its shape in the first use and cannot be used again. If still the bike is vibrating, replace all the 4 visor nuts again and tighten the bolts properly.
This vibration was a problem haunted GS for a long time.
visor may be causing vibes in handle, but what about vibes in foot-pegs??
Engine mountings are perfectly tight, checked them, even checked brakes, wheels and things below tank & seat. still wonder what is causing them??

In my opinion, waiting for new GS is meaningless.
There are no new GS bikes coming from factory since last 2 months. At least this is the status at Thane. Donno about other places.

What is the exact time to replace O ring..? My odo is 17500km still not replaced when asked to replace it on last oil change ..The SC mech told ...no need to change as it is very strong and last long for more kmOriginally posted by vishnukmd View PostThis O ring is not usually replaced at the time of oil change. In your case, it may not be correctly placed along the groove. Try to fix it in the groove using a little grease as a paste.
...?...what happens if we ride on worn out O rings ...since I don't know much abt it i am asking this to GS guru!!!!
A common topic ...As we live in democratic country as u always pointing out ..today in my place 1 school van with 40 children had a accident this evening ...on a left turn the van hit a transformer and rolled 3 times as 20 students are injjured and 3 students are refer to chennai as their condition is serious ...The van driver is in Alcohol and speaking in mobile while a left turn is near by...The childrens are very very small ones OMG!!!!!!!!!! Some schools not closed even in this summer holiday Blaming it on CBSE pattern(instead they hide the aim to collect another Term fee)...What the hell world we are living otherwise called democratic

@All: a small request from my side...Please refrain from discussing spiritual, political, national, international....etc. issues on a forum which is meant for bikes. X-bhp is the place for machine..don't treat it as Facebook or Orkut.anything that can go wrong will surely go wrong at the wrong time and the wrong place

Get your balancer gear checked for proper positioning and alignment, with the SVC, for your vibes complaint.Originally posted by mazaid53 View Post@All: a small request from my side...Please refrain from discussing spiritual, political, national, international....etc. issues on a forum which is meant for bikes. the O rings are supposed to be replaced only when we open the strainer cap for cleaning the oil strainer or when it has worn out (ie oil leaks frm strainer cap) whenever u open the strainer cap (for whatever Reason) u r suppose to replace with new "O Rings" thats what i have read in the gs manual.....Originally posted by akfara View PostWhat is the exact time to replace O ring..? regarding the leak in my baby the svc have told me that it wasnt leaking from the strainer cap (since i have replaced the O Rings in the mornin) but from further up where the other O ring was faulty (the phone reception was not gud n hence couldn't talk to the mech properly) will be going to the svc in the morning n will keep u guys updated as to exactly where the leak was from....

What can I do? What help are you expecting from me in this case?

That is left to you. You can do whatever you think fit.

The same what I said.

There may be some other answers but how can I find it out?

I do not think clutch plates are worn out as there is no loss of power, pickup or bike never struggles to gain speed.
Clutch has been adjusted thrice in last week but still shifts are same.
If you think clutch is the cause, adjust it again i.e. the 4th time. .

I too am happy to hear that there is, at least, one normal GS.

If you know it is dangerous, why are you using this bike instead of trying to get a refund of money? But you can ask for it at any time in the warranty period. No need to hurry.

I too am doing the same; wondering.

Suzuki may have stopped its production or no one may be buying it for the last 2 months.

Let us wait. It is not a criminal offence, as far as I know.

I have never said that democracy is the best form of government.
Whether closed in summer or not, CBSE schools are levying vacation fee because they are paying salary to the teachers in vacation period. More than that, some other schools also are open in summer months.
Anyhow, the accident is a sad event. Why did the school authorities appoint that alcoholic as driver and allow him to drive the school bus? They too deserve punishment.
As far as I know, alcoholic drinks are available all over the world, including Saudi Arabia. There it is not openly available as in other Arab countries; that is it.

crazy mileage
Hey guys,
Got the bike back from 3rd service. After speaking with the sc manager, he took the bike for 3rd service not as 4th.. Yesterday, my bike got dried of petrol and I filled 1 litre and today it stopped on 42 Kms. Its really crazy..And moreover I got stranded today on the main road and there was no petrol. I filled 30 rs petrol and it went to the right side of the tank..I had to slide the bike couple of times and after 15 minutes, it started. I filled 500 rs petrol. It got to 3 bars.. I am really frustrated about the mileage..Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by its breathtaking moments.

reason it didn't start immediately is more likely because of air block which would have gone after some kicking.
wait for this quota of fuel to get over. keep an eye on mileage. If it continues to be less take it back to the SVC and tell ask them if CARB tuning was done without your knowledge.KM

As I said earlier, My bike is now 5300KMs completed and I still can hear a Tak Tak sound from somewhere near the silencer after long rides. I'm hearing this from day 1 of the purchase of my GS, and thought its because my bike is new. Do you know the reason for this.

Nothing to worry about. It's normal. This tak tak sound is of baffle plates in the exhaust system (silencer). when we ride any bike, engine--->exhaust system heats up, and after we switch off the engine..these baffle plates start to contract, which makes this tak tak sound.Originally posted by Joe85 View PostAs I said earlier, My bike is now 5300KMs completed and I still can hear a Tak Tak sound from somewhere near the silencer after long rides. this sound is less in bikes with less restricted exhausts. e.g. Apache RTR.
Observe any car, u can hear same noise after engine is switched off.anything that can go wrong will surely go wrong at the wrong time and the wrong place
