driving with the Choke ON may damage your Bike, causing premature failure of the spark plugs at a minimum!Originally posted by Joe85 View PostCan anyone tell me, what will happen if I ride my bike with choke on?
The choke is there in the bike to aid you on starting only and use it only when the engine is cold. Normally No need to use it when starting a warm engine.
Warm up is important for long engine life too!
Riding with chock on just once in a while is not bad but if you ride the bike with choke on for long distance and after that if you find any difference in the way your bike responds or sounds or behaves then do consult SVC, it may be serious issue or in most times just cleaning the stuffs will do...Last edited by MSN1; 05-10-2011, 09:06 PM.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

Guys, i have some doubts with carb tuning.
My idle rpm is around 1400 (warm condition).
Today i tried turning the fuel screw to lock position, and the bike is supposed to stall and turn off, but nothing of the sort happened, the rpm reduced to 900-1000 and the engine beat was irregular, but it didnt turn off. Does this mean there is some air leak in the carb ?? (i read this on the net somewhere)
For now i've kept it at 1.5 turns to check if it improves mileage (3*180 degrees), is this too lean(lean enough to harm the engine) or is it ok ?

Need some help!!!
Hey Guys...
Proud owner of GS for 2 days now
really enjoying the ride
But I noticed something strange today ( and I am sure some one here also faced this situation earlier)
Whenever I rotate the handle to the extreme right(bike is not running) either the Bike shuts off or the idle RPM goes to less than 1k.
In the same position, If I give a little throttle, then the RPM starts to increase constantly and it will go beyond 4.5k(I raised the throttle once and left it but the RPM goes beyond 4.5k)
So any idea what could be the reason..I definitely remember some was telling like the engine shuts off when he rotated the handle to the extreme right
Any way its just 2 days and hence I am not worried as the riding has been so smooth

it would stall while at 900 rpm if you try in cold (early morning first start)but it wont stall if the engine is warm.
play with idle screw but carb tuning is bit risky as too much lean as too rich arent good so keep it somewhere with in 2 or 2.5 turns. or leave it to a good local expert (i think earlier once you said your dad or one of your uncle is good at carb tuning) so try that option instead.
thats something to do with the bike accelerator or clutch cabling ( consult svc or a good local mechanic who own screw it up )Originally posted by ashoka_bnglr View PostHey Guys...

Get the choke cable checked as it must be a case of it being too tight.

Yup, my dad's friend actually. i'll have to ask him only again. He had told me to visit svc coz they will be able to tune the CO levels etc better.Originally posted by MSN1 View Post

but svc did nothing and gave the bike back.
Good thing that its normal and there's no air leak. For a moment i thought my carb was spoilt.

Just check if the battery acid level is above the full mark, that could have caused the leak. And cover the terminals properly with gel. This will usually prevent the battery from leaking or causing white deposits all over.

If the acid level is high then is it not the fault of SVC??Originally posted by thefalcon View Post

Yes it is. My battery used to have this problem too, the white residue corroded the battery holder. I got a replacement for battery under warranty (battery has 1 yr warranty) and for the new battery i make sure the level isn't above the Full mark, the svc did overfill the new battery too, i removed some of the distilled water with a syringe.Originally posted by Maestro View PostIf the acid level is high then is it not the fault of SVC??
No residue or leaking yet.

I too feel that the choke is very tight to pull....But really surprised how it could affect the positioning of the handle!!.Originally posted by cbf150m View PostGet the choke cable checked as it must be a case of it being too tight.
Yeah I will go to the SVC and sorts things out...Originally posted by MSN1 View Post[FONT="Verdana"][COLOR="Blue"]

HC---710PPM.
Can other gspians mail down there co & hc score....
. My bike odo at the time of test 5400 KM
CO -- 0.04%
HC -- 086 PPM
The guy who done the testing is surprised to see this much low emissions. He adviced me to rise the accelerator, it happened 3 times but he able to find above reading only.
As i am getting good mileage I am Happy

All in Kolkata?
But I trusted my GS150R and it gave me no reason to worry.
Is there anything special with your bike other than that of others to specially mention this unique incidence here?

How was the feeling when you first came out of there? Nothing special, but a curiosity though I know that you may not be able to remember it.
