    • One Day at the Service Centre !!!

      Hi guys,
I had got an invitation from my service centre(Jain suzuki, chennai) last week about the service camp(mela) that was going to be held on 7th and 8th of Dec...

During the invitation, they said People from Suzuki are coming to check your bike.... But Unfortunately, the mechanics were from the manufacturing unit in gurgaon.... There was one engineer who supervised all the work.. I forgot his name...

I went to the service centre yesterday(8th) morning at around 8:45 am... I was greeted by namy people there since I was the first person for the service that day. Mr. Vinod Natarajan also was there taking down my complaints... I had a problem where the idling rpm was not consistent before and after a ride.... The front discs squeak... I was promised by Mr.Vinod that I'll ge the bike by 10:00... they gave me samosa and tea as refreshment...

First My bike was washed then they started the regular checkup... A Guy from Diamond Eagle(Chain cleaning and assembling unit) checked the chain, A guy from Exide checked the battery... One Mechanic from Suzuki cleaned and checked the major parts(filter, sparkplug, suspension etc)... Everything was done only by 10:30... Then a guy started to polish the bike... Till now they had not addressed the rpm issue... Then I asked Mr. Vinod about the issue.. He said tuning needs to be done and the guy responsible to install the tuning kit was on the way... I was made to wait till 11:30 till that guy installed and gave demo to the SC guys.... Then the engineer asked me to go for a milleage test with 200 ml bottle... they removed all the petrol from the card by idling, then went for a ride... The bike went for exactly 11.8 Kms (i.e 59 KMPL)... The SC people told that everyone who tested before got 60 and above... By this time It was already 12:30 pm and me frustrated coz I had asked only 1 hour permission from office...

The engineer patiently started to do the tuning with the trainer kit.. He used a pulse engine tachometer for engine rpm measuring.... the kit had %CO reading which read the amount of CO from the exuast.... Based on the amount of CO, they adjusted the air fuel misture.... By standards, it should be .20%... but mine was varying from .05 to .25 ... It was not consistent at al... He was trying to get atleast 18 or 22....but in vain.... Then he told that there could be sediments in te carburettor which could actually cause the inconsistency... He asked me to carry on with this and to come some other time at my convinience that the carb be cleaned... He also mentioned that using petrol from different companies can also be one of the causes... And in India, petrol is no that pure....

By the time I reveiced my Bike it was 1:15pm... On delivery, they gave me a T-Sirt for my relief and a key chain... I took them and rushed back to office... Man the bike was Butter-O-Butter..... Rpm was a bit consistent.... I was really satisfied but annoyed to made me wait for so long.... Other guys who gave for service after me got were done well before mine.... and I gave a thrash to them for making me wait....
Also they replaced the regulator which Vishal had mentioned earlier.... Good Newzzzzzz guys... The headlight is better than before... They also adjusted the focus settings... the fuel hose which had a crack was also replaced... but they charged me 18 Rs for that....

So guys in chennai can look forward to the free service camp in their respective centres,.... Talk to the engineer and Mr. Vinod Natarajan... and they'll respond well

Sorry for the long post and thank you for taking time to read... Questions are welcome...

are you sure about it ??

Because my Classic CBZ does the same speed at the Same RPM, I was expecting that with help of 6th gear GS would do marginally @ lower RPM's

Anyway its a different story how would My CBZ run & GS run at the same RPM's with respect to Strain on Engine & Vibrations

three months back even i had gone for a mileage test with an sc mechanic and 100ml bottle. the mechanic asked me to keep the bike below 4k rpm all through the test ride and the bike ran for 5.8kms. the mech told me only if i ride the bike below 4k i would get a good mileage else it would go for a toss. i told them i usually ride btw 3.5k to 5k rpm and though this is more than the quoted 4k this should affect the mileage by few points and not as much as 25kms ... mech could nto give me a proper answere for that, all he said was "athu ellam theriyadhu sir, 4k rpm mela ottna mileage kedaikathu" (meaning above 4k the bike would not be efficient). i didnt wanna react just left the place.

          1. were you asked to maintain your bike under some rpm when you did the mileage test ?
          2. also are they replacing regulators for all the old bikes ?

Buy Pulsar LS 135..i think it will give better mileage and also since its 13.6 bhp, it will give better power output compared to Suzuki GS 150 R. read the thread elsewhere in the forum to get more details or better visit bajaj website.

              One prospective GS buyer here.
I want some help from you guys in deciding on the perfect bike for me.
Its more of an enquiry about the GS150R, so I am posting in this thread.

              I'm working in a S/W MNC in Chennai, I've previously owned a Yamaha YD125. I am not a speed enthusiast, more of a commuter/cruiser.
I am planing to upgrade to a 150 cc bike. I am planning to own this bike for more than 5 yrs.

I am not considering the following bikes,

              Bajaj and TVS

I have ruled out Bajaj and TVS (no offence to their owners) bikes, as I am not confident in their build quality and reliability yet.

              Yamaha

Yamaha was my favourite but I feel their offering FZ and Fazer comes a bit too late for me, as I need good pillion rider comfort as well and the mileage seems to be on the lower side.
So sadly Yamaha is out of the way.

              Honda Unicorn:

Already have one in the family (brother).
Outdated styling, no LED tail light, no digital console.
A bit too common on the streets.

              HH Hunk:

Was never a fan of its styling and name. Looks big in the front and too timid in the rear.
No LED tail light, no digital console.

HH CBZ Xtreme was the only option left for me, it has its set of cons though.
No digital console. A OK mileage (my friends 2007 bike is giving 42-45).
Not a head turner in style (but its Ok) and the new model has only few consmetic changes.

I was planning to buy this bike even though I was not even 70% convinced this was the bike I was looking for.
With no other major releases/upgrade in 150 cc announced for 2010, I felt I was stuck in this as I am planning to buy a bike in Jan 2010.

Then I saw GS150R AD behind a Governmentt bus about 10 days back. Yes that was the first time I saw this bike, even though it was on the market since Feb 2009. I can't remember watching its AD on tv, whats up with Suzuki and their marketing dept (seems like they have given up on this bike already ), they used to be good at marketing (Remember: 'The no problem bike' ).

I decided to check this one out. Heres my opinion on it.

Though the styling was not eye catching, except for the rear and the birds eye view of the bike, which was really stunning, the bike had all I wanted for.
The best tail lamp I have ever seen, distinct from other bikes.
The digital console was just awesome. Can't express in words.
Very good mileage (50+) for a 150 cc.
              Gear indicator.
Sixth gear overdrive to reduce the load on the engine.
              Comfortable riding position.

I felt this was the bike I need, and was first time happy about buying a bike.

But I have some queries regarding GS150R, GS owners can you please help in this.

              1. I have read the noise is on the higher side. Is it true? Is it more than Pulsar and RTRs? How does it compare with HH Hunk and CBZX?
I believe it is more than Unicorn.
              2. Is the rusting issue still there? Has it been fixed, is there anyway to confirm this? Or buying this bike is still a gamble?
              3. How is the build quality of this bike?
              4. How is the A.S.S in Chennai? The Pallavaram Suzuki branch is the nearest to my place, has anyone purchased from them ?
Does the bike have rusting issues? How long is the waiting period?
How is the dealer, friendly? Or should I go for another branch in Chennai?

ATM I am pretty confused about which one to go,
              HH CBZ Xtreme OR GS150R

My heart says GS150Rm but my mind is still confused.

              My priorities are:

              1. Good mileage.
              2. Comfortable riding position, slight sporty is Ok. I am having slight back problem so don't want to strain my back too much.
              3. Comfortable pillion ride.
              4. Less noise. (Heard vibration is GS is very low)
              5. Budget: 70K (max)

Forgive me for such a long long first post.
Looking forward to hear from you guys.

              Hi,

Just listen to your heart and go for Suzuki.... its no doubt an awesome bike in the 150 CC segment and Suzuki is world renowed for their quality and incredible lineup of motorbikes. Iam a GS owner and till now I had no problems with it and Iam enjoying every ride.. The rusting issue was common in the old lot and I dont think the new lot has any of it. Still I would suggest u check the bike thoroughly before u buy. I love the design of the GS. Its Macho, It has a beautiful LED tail light, awesome digital console, and has an extremely comfortable seat which is good for long drives and ofcourse its smooth and ride quality is excellent. If u want a value for money commuter bike in the 150 CC segment within your budget then ur search ends here... All the best...

What about the missing air screw? that you had reported earlier.

Did they check that & clean it?

Good to hear that most of your problems are resolved.

Welcome to the world of GS150R buddies

GS has a good powerful engine & a good mileage in the 150cc segment with 6 gears which is a boon on highways & long rides, with a soft suspension & comfortable riding position.

Take a test ride of both the bikes & go with what your heart says & you will never regret your choice.

                    ALL THE BEST!!!!

Even i really want to go for the service camp,
And what was done about the disc brake squeak sound ??
Are they replacing the regulator of all bikes or only if you tell them about bad headlight quality ?
In general are the mechanics experienced and good(better than SC ppl atleast)
Sorry for asking so many questions, the free service camp concept seems exciting.

                              Yes buddy..
Yesterday afternoon i left my bike with SC...
Mr. Vinod Natrajan personally inspected my bike and we went for a ride..
He asked me to come the next day...
Anyway, Suzuki is good in service, so I left it in their care.

My bike is been standing in the past chennai rains... and I'm pretty happy about no rust being formed(touch wood)...

There is absolutely no noise as lower rpms.... Its butter... Only when rpm corsses 6K rpm, the noise is a bit irritating.... I cannot give comparision as I have not ridden bikes at high speeds... May be some one else can help you in this regard.
                                Thanks mate.
Good to hear that the r*** issue has been taken seriously by Suzuki and fixed in the recent lots.
I will probably taking a test ride in the last week of december and book the bike around Pongal.

Can you throw some light on how do you feel about the gear shift (raised heel) position. I will be using the toe shifter only mostly, but I want to know if the heel position causes some discomfort/pain.
