I said it.Originally posted by imjoshee View PostCan you please let me know who said this my Friend? I can show you the pictures of my Nov 2002 Fiero petrol tank & there is not even a particle of rust on it.
And I have a few bikes more than 7 years old that haven't seen a puncture.
It is not about whether your or my bike has it or not but even in a dry area like Hyderabad that is far away from the sea coast I regularly find bikes with mild rust on the petrol tank neck.
There's probably something with the way the GS's petrol cap fits onto the tank neck that this issue occurring more but this is not very uncommon.

Very much true... bike tank rust problem is common, and people also do the things like adding a bit of oil with the petrol to come out that problem... but the frequency and the time in GS is more, and definitely a concernOriginally posted by HydBiker View PostI said it.

Hey sharshas that's the thing the showroom guy in Rajajinagar bangalore...suggested me to do....adding a little bit of oil with the petrol once in every month.....Please check my previous post...
I was not sure if that would cause any problems...So i had asked the experts to suggest on that...but nobody has replied till now...
also he told me that this problem was mainly in Blue color GS...
Guys please let know...all the owners of GS.....if this problem is only in Blue GS....anyway I am not sure how the color could have a effect on the quality of the material used.....Last edited by Guru_007; 08-10-2009, 07:35 PM.

sirOriginally posted by vensan View Posti agreed with ur point of weight ,but pushing front is not a improper load distibution....i can say then and then only the load is distributed equally.....other bikes will fall back side,it means the load is given only back side...when even load distribution if u remove one tyre that side defenatly will go down......i also had puncture..3 times (25 days old bke, front tyre)....now i seen soem cracks in my front tyre.....i will post the pics soon....will they change my tyres?
What i wanted to point out is tha, when the front wheel is removed the bike should stand on rear tire and when the rear is removed it should stand on front..
this has been witnessed in lot of bikes.. but in GS when the front tyre got punctured the bike did not balance in the rear tyre.. a sheer case of weight distribution mismatch..
by the way i want to undersatnd why is GS so heavy??? using aluminium blocks for engines and other fibre parts for others.. but why so heavy???

I also have very little rust like something in tank mouth..
how it can have anything to do with colour ? and when I wipe with cloth, it goes and again come after some days. But its very little. Somebody said rightly it may has some relation with tank opening lid. I find that to close tightly, u have to press it down otherwise its not that tight. Is this in any other bike ?

Even I basically feel that this problem is more common in the blue colour.I have seen rusting in black colour also.I do not like the idea of putting oil in petroil tank as it is not advised by the company and all the new engines are 4 stroke engines which do not require oil mixed in petrol.
I still dont understand why the Suzuki guys are not doing anything for this problem or maybe they are experimenting with the issue and may be a permanent solution.
Till then keep checking your tanks & bikes for rust & report to the service centre.
Also not to forget..Keep Riding

i think hydbiker is right..most of the bikes do hav rust on the tank neck...my old libero had it...and my bro's cbz-x also has...and the inside of your tank looks clean too...Originally posted by HydBiker View Post^^^
Rust on petrol tank neck is as common as probably a nail in the tyre. Don't just panic at that. May be you can wipe it off with a cloth damped with petrol.
And here are pics of my tankRider turned driver, aspiring to ride again.

People say that adding a bit of oil with the petrol once in 6 months will be useful, like no rust in petrol tank and engine will be smooth... but honestly i never tried that, but one thing for sure it never creates any problem unless until the quantity of the oil is too much...Originally posted by Guru_007 View PostHey sharshas that's the thing the showroom guy in Rajajinagar bangalore...suggested me to do....adding a little bit of oil with the petrol once in every month.....Please check my previous post...
