i am writing this just after washing my gs150r .....this is important...i have read in the owners manual that we should not pour much water on the fuel cap....but if we drive in the rain or even a mild wash could easily break this rule...coming to the matter..while washing the tank i heard a strange sound of water getting into somewhere...after i finished washing i just opened the fuel lid and was shocked to see water getting stuck around the lid and this could be the cause of rusting around the lid...anyway i thought i would wipe the water some way...closed the lid kept the bike on the side stand and went to take a small cloth...after few minutes i returned and opened the lid and to my surprise there is no water..then i noticed a small hole on the side through which all the water has drained ...BUT TO WHERE ....to the fuel tank ?????????.....oh god i cant imagine that much amount of water going into fuel tank....so whats that hole for? to get rid of the water that get stucks under the lid ???????? i dont think so....

that drains water out of your bikeOriginally posted by speed deamon View Posti am writing this just after washing my gs150r .....this is important...i have read in the owners manual that we should not pour much water on the fuel cap....but if we drive in the rain or even a mild wash could easily break this rule...coming to the matter..while washing the tank i heard a strange sound of water getting into somewhere...after i finished washing i just opened the fuel lid and was shocked to see water getting stuck around the lid and this could be the cause of rusting around the lid...anyway i thought i would wipe the water some way...closed the lid kept the bike on the side stand and went to take a small cloth...after few minutes i returned and opened the lid and to my surprise there is no water..then i noticed a small hole on the side through which all the water has drained ...BUT TO WHERE ....to the fuel tank ?????????.....oh god i cant imagine that much amount of water going into fuel tank....so whats that hole for? to get rid of the water that get stucks under the lid ???????? i dont think so....
not into fuel tank, and secondly as u said that u putted bike on side stand then u might not have observed that your fuel cap has tiny opening from all side (leaving that hole), so it is the second way for water to come out especially when bike is on side stand and as long as your fuel cap is closed (even when it had accumulated water in its sidewalls), the water cannot enter the fuel tank so no worries it hapens with every bike

Did u type this exact same thing in the orkut gs150 community too ?Originally posted by speed deamon View Posti am writing this just after washing my gs150r .....this is important...i have read in the owners manual that we should not pour much water on the fuel cap....but if we drive in the rain or even a mild wash could easily break this rule...coming to the matter..while washing the tank i heard a strange sound of water getting into somewhere...after i finished washing i just opened the fuel lid and was shocked to see water getting stuck around the lid and this could be the cause of rusting around the lid...anyway i thought i would wipe the water some way...closed the lid kept the bike on the side stand and went to take a small cloth...after few minutes i returned and opened the lid and to my surprise there is no water..then i noticed a small hole on the side through which all the water has drained ...BUT TO WHERE ....to the fuel tank ?????????.....oh god i cant imagine that much amount of water going into fuel tank....so whats that hole for? to get rid of the water that get stucks under the lid ???????? i dont think so....

You must have been really tensed.
I think if u see water thru that gap, you should not open the tank cap till its drained. just as precaution so water doesnt enter thru where fuel enters.

+1, this the most appropriate method for checking the mileage. We can check 3 types of mileage hereOriginally posted by rockinggokul View Postwell i don't think so,but then y to take any risk at the first place
but still nothing wud happen man chill!!
then the best way is full tank method
1.fill in ur tank to the brim
2.set the trip meter to zero
3.drive for as long as u can say till almost the vehicle comes to reserve
(not necessarily but the longer u'd drive the least would be the error)
4.the next time u visit a petrol bunk fill it again to the brim
5.notice how much petrol is needed for a tank full
6.this amount of petrol and your trip meter would give you your answer
for eg.:
now u have a tank full
u visit to the petrol bunk at say when your trip m. says 500km
and your vehicle now takes in say 10lt for tankfull
so it means it has consumed 10lt petrol to cover 500km
which gives: 500 km/10 lt = 50 kmpl
hope u get this one!!!

1) City mileage, get the full tank petrol and ride only in city for few hunderds and get the tank filled again n check mileage
2) Highway mileage, same but ride few hundred kms on a highway and calculate the mileage
3) Mixed mileage, few hundreds in city and few on highway.
Empty to Empty method also ok but not reserve to reserve. That may not be accurate (i feel)3 Bullet 350cc
2 Bullet 500cc
2 Bajaj CT 100
2 Apache 150
1 Apache RTR
1 Hero Honda Hunk
1 Yamaha RX 135
1 Yamaha RX 135 5 Speed

Generally we have to tell the person at the bunk to fill for a specific amount before he starts filling. so how do u fill "till the tank becomes full". and stop before it starts overflowing ???Originally posted by Bullet500 View Post+1, this the most appropriate method for checking the mileage. i know the question may sound stupid. i've never filled full tank in my bike because it'll take 1 months or more to come to reserve
reserve to reserve is ok but the only problem is bike turns off in the middle of the road when main gets over and its annoying.
and may be harmful to engine too.Last edited by thefalcon; 11-24-2009, 11:51 AM.

filling tank to tank also has its share of problems.. if this method has to be accurate you need to fill exactly to the same same level of the tank each time.. which is difficult to monitor each time.. also at time there might be small inclines in the floor which the bike isplaced while filling petrol that can give you wrong level ...
my suggestion is to fill from reserve to reserve... but as somebody pointed out reserve might not be accurate.. it is an approximation...
so if both methods are approximations only, then no harm in trying either of the two..
however if one can determine the closest approximation between the two one can follow whichever method one wants....
correct me ifam wrong..

Which is why I try the reserve to reserve method&it works pretty accurately, but you need to find a petrol pump as soon as it comes to reserve!
Even if I find a petrol pump in say 3 kms.after it comes to reserve, I can subtract those 3 kms.&find out the distance travelled for 10 litres.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

You can write in to Suzuki & take their opinion.Originally posted by thefalcon View Postthe engine does get pretty hot too, may be our bikes need 20w50 grade(like pulsars) to maintain smoothness at higher temperatures.
may be we could give this as a suggestion to suzuki(by mail or phone).
Else you can check out the Universal thread on OILS.Originally posted by thefalcon View Postany harm in trying 20w50 instead of 20w50 mineral oil ?(the viscocity is same for both oils at lower side "20" and the 50 means better viscocity for higher temp range)
Also an update from my regarding the Test Ride of the new lot.
Had been to the SVC centre to take test ride of the new lot & I was impressed (AS ALWAYS) with the smoothness of the engine. The engine was much smoother than what we have/had. Also there is a change in the electrical side, the company has changed the battery to a sealed battery & reduced power to 7.5amps,but the GOOD NEWS is they have changed the regulator to a more powerful one to get a brighter headlamp & I could notice the change while I was riding it.
The quality has changed & the new lot had a good finish.
No other changes in terms of engine & other stuff.

Yesterday a funny thing happened. My fuel indicator was on the last point.I was riding the bike and suddenly it came to a stop.So i turned on to reserve and the bike started. So my question is how cum i am to know that the bike has finished with its fuel and should be turned to reserve to start.
Since i thought the fuel indicator will blip if the knob has to be turned to reserve.

Hi vishal, Nice to hear that the headlights have improved in the new lot. I'm now thinking about changing the regulator you talked about. How much will this cost ? Will the SC provide the option or will I have to do it by some mechanic ??Originally posted by imjoshee View PostYou can write in to Suzuki & take their opinion.

I'm really fascinated with this bike vishal... As you said its really smooth... Even now people stop by me in chennai to ask the price and milleage
Sanju - the fuel indicator will blink only when the fuel is around 1.4 litre. The reserve capacity is 3. So the indicator will blink only some time after reserve. so no worries.Originally posted by sanjukoli12 View PostYesterday a funny thing happened. My fuel indicator was on the last point.I was riding the bike and suddenly it came to a stop.So i turned on to reserve and the bike started. So my question is how cum i am to know that the bike has finished with its fuel and should be turned to reserve to start.
