knocking
Hi Guys, well I just noticed a sound coming from the bike and it sounds like a knocking sound.
it happens in the mornings and when i start the bike after resting it for sometime. It knocks and the engine stops. Can someone tell me y or what is this?? It has started recently and is beginning to bother me.
Also the main stand kinda jerks when on bumpy roads.. That makes a clink clink sound too.
Will be crossing 3k on the ODO in just abt 5 days time and then its gonna be time for the 2nd service. Hope these issues are resolved in the service itself.
Also, I have stated in my earlier posts how the seat is giving me troubles.. What can I do to get it rectified so that i can go on long drives?? I had added some extra foam so that drivers seat is leveled with that of pillions, but its hurting the butt!!
Plz suggest an alternative guyz!Ride Safe so U can Live to Ride another Day!

RE::: Knocking issue
Varun,
Early morning start (cold start) knocking issue happens if the idle is set to too low
Cold idle should be minimum 1100 and warm can be between 1300 to 1500 rpm respectivly.
A good local mechanic or svc will set the right rpm for you.
Regarding the seat, haven't come accross such complaint from any one earlier, even my family members are happy with the default design of the seat.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity
Currently Using Gusto |Enfield Bullet 500 | Ecosport Titanium+ Diesel

Thanks Augustine..That is exactly what i neededOriginally posted by Augustine09 View Post
but my service center ppl told that its not possible
So now I have to check in other SVC or if any Bangalore guys had this can guide me further
@All,
First service done and the gear problem is not there anymore.
But one thing I noticed is that I can feel some vibes past 4.5k RPM.(near footrest, handle bar) I am sure it was not there before first service but will wait for few more days before concluding so..
Also I know its been discussed N number of times in here with no proper conclusion but today I tried power mode throughout my journey to office and believe me I did feel some more +ve response during acceleration..
The RPM was climbing nicely with the opening of the throttle . Did a 90kmph for the first time (I Know its not that great
)..Anyhow to summarize I am loving it

Mine was not a vacation but a simple journey. But have you asked for any replacement even though I have reminded it before the expiry of your warranty period?Originally posted by akfara View Post@ Madhu I hope Mr Vishnu not on vacation.

Ashoka,
The difficulty to shift to 1st gear was due to the high engine rpm. Now the mechanic has adjusted the hot rpm it to below 1500, when the engine is hot and now it is OK. To convince, try to shift down to 1st gear now, when the RPM is above 1500.
He has removed refitted the visor at the time of adjusting the headlight beam and thus its alignment is lost. Remove the 4 visor nuts (costs Rs. 10/- each) and refit the visor or fix pieces of double sided thick adhesive tape between the visor and its base and refit it. This will solve the problem. If you are replacing the nuts, ensure that they are tightened in the correct torque or get it done by the mechanic.
When I pointed it earlier, one of our expert engineer GSpians came to question it. I don’t wonder why most of our engineering graduates or under graduates are not accepted in their respective fields to work as engineers and why most of them are dumped in the BPO field where a pass in plus two is more than enough.
This – the untalented engineers - is the curse of our nation. About 6.5-7 lakhs are coming out with the tag every year and reach nowhere in their field.
I have witnessed a part of human migration– 1000s of young people – to the southern states – especially to Kerala from the other states, mainly from West Bengal. There, in Kerala, they get a daily wages of Rs. 500-600 when in their states it is below Rs. 60/-, they say. I don’t know whether it is true or not. Someone from Kerala may be able to confirm it even though it is OT. But I know there is no cast base untouchability in that state.
I don’t like to discuss about the modes again, but it is an indicator to shift the gear; nothing else. If you feel any better performance in any of the modes – even though it is a psychological effect - stick to it. That will not make any difference in the mileage or life of the engine.
Anyhow, was the RPM declining when you accelerated in the Eco mode?
You may be able to fit a ‘ladies handle’ on our bike but, considering the height of the back seat, it may not be comfortable to the pillion rider. She may have to bend down to use it.

Even now the warm RPM reads 1500 but yes will check your method

Oh..why the SVC ppl so dumb that they can't even realize this would happen. Will do it asap but what about the vibes at the footrest?
Yeah I know this kind of sophisticated mechanism does't exist in our bike but thats why I said "I feel"
Anyhow, was the RPM declining when you accelerated in the Eco mode?
What I meant to say is that the RPM climbs faster( there is no declining as such in any mode) than in ECO mode but anyhow its a nice feeling
Yeah i too agree

under warrantyOriginally posted by KIRTIMANNAN View Postwow..they have almost given you a new engine..how much did they charge you for it...
so no bucksing

with 50% off on service charges
The only thing that is bad is just befor this suzuki camp, my bike got 10th service(last free service)with oil and oil filter change and they again changed the oil on the pretext that most of the engine parts are changed and are new, when i asked for drained oil(hardly rode 20 kms on the this oil) and the reply was they discarded the 20 km old new oil

so i had to pay the oil charges twice(nearly 500bucks)..

From your riding conditions, 58 kml is not enough. Check it properly with the apparatus available in the sc.
Ours is an air cooled bike. So, fitting any kind of engine guard may hinder proper air flow, the result being increased engine heat. So, it is better to avoid it; I think.
Washing the bike every day is a luxury. Water is becoming more and more precious as petroleum products. We haven’t yet found out anything to substitute both.
If we are lucky enough, the petrol price may reach Rs. 250/- per liter this year itself. The usual loud fart through the throat of our politicians was not heard this time, when the petrol price was unusually increased. Perhaps the century ‘young’ lions may be licking their wounds, counting the money they have stolen and mourning. The paradise is lost; but, surely, not permanently.

The metallic sound you hear may be the chain hitting its cover. Get its looseness adjusted by the mechanic. There are some more reasons, but first of all, adjust the chain.
GS’s seat gives a very good driving posture, better than almost all other bikes except – perhaps – Bullet and CD 100.
So please remove the foam ‘pad’ you have added. It may be dangerous as it adds height to the otherwise high seat.
What is the inconvenience the seat making? One of our members, Maestro, has done a 1600 km trip within 24 hours with the same seat.
If you are looking for a straight seat, you may have to look for Bullet, CD 100 or Shine 125. Among these, the CD 100 may be best. But, is it absolutely necessary?

Thank you. Was on a trip but not on bike. The bike is OK; in good health.
First of all, thanks. I was on a journey with a plan to visit Thanjavur and Chidambaram (where Siva meditated long to get rid of the sin of removing the fifth head of Brahma) while I return.Originally posted by ashoka_bnglr View PostHey Vishnu

Now, each and every nuts and bolts of our bike need to be tightened in a specific torque which is described in the workshop manual and which the mechanics are supposed to do. If it is not done so, the bike will vibrate. Insufficient and excess tightening may cause this problem.
The parts such as the scissor gear, engine balancer etc. is not considered now as your bike is new and the gear box is not opened yet.
Here the vibration is not on the footrest alone but is all over the bike. You do feel it everywhere but more immensely on the hands and foot.
Align the visor properly. This will solve the problem. If not, let us consider later.

These are the problems you are facing:
1. Harsh engine sound, if accelerated from a low speed. 2. ‘Struggling’ sound from engine, if ridden in high gears at low speed. 3. Mileage of 45 kml. 4. Jerking at 30-60 kmh and above speed. 5. The rear rim becomes hot after riding some distance. 6. Bike skids while sharp braking.
And these are the replacements:
1) Cylinder. 2) Piston. 3) Ring set, piston. 4) Pin, piston. 5) Crankshaft. 6) Bearing crank shaft right and left (both). 7) Balancer comp, crank. 8) Gear, crank balancer drive. 9) Gear, crank balancer driven. 10) Babble assay, clutch. 11) Gasket. 12) Suzuki engine oil.
As KIRTIMANNAN said, the engine is almost new now. Let us hope the problems are over. Good luck.

Thanks for ur Suggestions Vishnu. The problem that I was facing was that my partner used to lean forward while braking thus causing all the weight to be transfered on my hands. I thought maybe if I aligned the seat with that of the pillions, it will take some load off my hands. But the seat has become a problem. I think come this sunday, I will get it back in its original form.
And its gonna be 2nd service soon, so il tell the service guys reg that noise coming from the bottom of the bike.Ride Safe so U can Live to Ride another Day!
