Everything including the battery is going fine. No cold start problems or anything like that.

My Saddlesore Log : The 1st Successful Saddlesore in World on a GS150R

        Comment

        • Completed 1600 Km in 40 days.

Few small issues i have noticed:

          Gear never downshifts from 3-2.
Bike getting switched off automatically after crossing 100.
Water and mud gets below the seat when driven in rain.

The footrest in GS is not protected by the front bumper. I had a 15cm cut on my foot when a iron string tore my shoes apart, cutting my feet. Luckily, it was not very deep. . As most of us know, the light was not go good to make the dark road visible.

Is it possible to install a custom made front bumper even if it looks odd .?

Did a 300 Km round trip and the experience is AWESOME. No back pain but i do have a little wrist pain . Getting a good mileage of 55-58 in ECO mode.

1600 kms in 40 days okay when u serviced it last ? and when you changed the oil lastly ?

if you drive vehicle in heavy rains the water will take its toil by spoiling the bike performance.

being it in India or us if you drive in bad weather condition it is possible to get mud and other dirty stuffs will go inside; even if you drive slowly the mud water splash contributed by other big vehicle make it reach inside the seat and all....

what you meant by bike gets switched off automatically after crossing 100 is it means 100 kms on odo or 100 kms on speedo

either way a service with closer look in to the carb and fuel system will do the best .... and their is no cut off switch in GS for that to happen may be this behavior is caused by carb settings or other fuel suppy issues

foot rest or the front butterfly type bumper is not designed to protect at any angle if you need such kind of bumper means need to design one that swipes or shaves the road too closely, am not criticizing but this issue looks weird as it wasn't reported by any one in the past 1200+ pages

The FE of your bike is good as you have the habit of occasional reaching 100 kmh speed. Keep the carburetor intact and never try to alter its settings as suggested by some others. Petrol price is going up day by day and even a drop of it is precious now for a common man.

The rain water getting in under the seat is common in every bike but cannot understand why the mud. Check once again.

The crash guard or leg guard is not factory fitted even in the costliest bikes from Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Harley Davidson, Yamaha or any other motorcycle manufacturer and most of them are against it. It is an aftermarket product made of hollow iron pipe which is prone to easy bending and it is not a compulsory accessory all over the world as the sari guard in our country. This accessory is not supplied by the bike company and this why it is not included in the price of the bike.

All the bike dealers are compelling to buy it for their financial safety; not for the safety of the biker.

It may perhaps protect the paint of the bike if it falls from a standstill but does not or cannot in case of a crash.

The researches show that this guard is not able to protect the leg of the rider from crushing under the bike but is causing more fatal injuries including whiplashing to the rider.

Most of us including me are using it with a pseudo impression of being protected but actually it is not so.

A better thing for the safety of the rider, apart from good riding gears, is sliders.

Expect a healthy discussion but kindly avoid moronic comments such as ‘fingering’ test of oil quality and viscosity.

                • The carb / fuel supply setting which I suggest was not about screwing up the FE its about making sure carb is clean and no dirt stuffs to block the flow of fuel.

Some times too much mileage oriented FE tuned bike will give jerking / feel of shortage of fuel supply like feel at high speed I felt in my bike on earlier days those SVC guys corrected it for me.

Even I asked him to contact the SVC for that never told him to play with carb.
                  .................................................. ......
Regarding fingering: previous to GS I had a hero honda splendor which had a dip stick attached to the engine oil reserviors cap where the HH enginers used to remove the cap to check the oil level based on the level in the stick and they used their finger and touch the oil on the stick to test the viscosity.

Same thing was been followed in many modern day cars too. Even ford enginers tested my figo engine oil status by the same way and they even left a drop on my hands and asked me to check it by its sticky character.
                  .......................................

Vishnu I completely differ with you on the crash guard as a accessory bought by customer or dealer.

in GS both the crashguard and sarry guard come as factory fitted. Even I saw that while the dealer downloading the vehicle from the lorry at their stock yard.

                    • @ all GSpians

                      oil experience:
                      - Stock Oil (unknown rating & brand) ; perhaps good for mating
                      - 1st replacement : Motul 15w50 semi-synth @780 kms on odo... probably was a mistake.. however. Motul 15w50 semi-synth is great for long hauls.

                      - 2nd replacement : Idemitsu-40 @1800 kms on ODO. also Oil filter was replaced ; pathetic I'm sure they(Saptagiri) filled more than 1200ml ... you could see it in oil level on center stand. With Idemitsu in my knocks off @ speed breakers.... was a great reminder (no to go with SVC oils no matter what).

                      - 3rd replacement : Shell 20w40 Mineral @3400 on ODO ; coz Idemitsu was pathetic. Shell 20w40 was decent one. no complaints(from this noob).

                      - 4th replacement : Shell 10w40 Semi-Synth @5800 on ODO. was hard to find in bangalore(got from Shell @brigade near Iscon) for Rs 317/- ; been on it for 300 kms now. no complaints; however it stick too much to engine I guess, coz when I want to check oil level after a warm up it takes really long time to settle.

wow this is my 5th Oil in just 6100 on ODO!!!!

                      SVC Exp:
Saptagiri Suzuki RajKumar Road : (first three free services)
busy SVC may not be able to address your specific needs.. the one who stocks Idemitsu-40 engine oil (beware)... guys who take your service requests are arrogant and adamant ....

Miller's Road (Value Suzuki): (one free service)
Didn't like the service (TBH); they apply oil after before delivery.. yuck... indifferent SVC... do even bother to change your engine oil over here

Yelahanka (Value suzuki): (one paid service)
smaller branch of Value suzuki. Apparently there is only one Mech to handle all Services. I asked them to clean carb(coz engine hiccups i.e panting for air @high RMPs!!).. I still feel my bike going through it..

                      Other stuff:
                      -> removed Sari guard.
-> removed extra fitting under rear number plates. another thing.. you'll molded number plates @ Rs 550/- and @Rs 750/- with RTO seal & sticker.. choose carefully.
-> bought Motul Chain cleaner and Chain lube from Motul house(Motor cycle components) near Lal-bag (bengaluru).. although I still haven't used either of them yet.
                      -> bought a new LS2 helmet @ Rs 3300/-

                      Thinking of :
                      - Finding a decent Mech by word of mouth and stick to him/her for good. Could someone suggest me a good mech around Yelahanka or Hebbal.

that was my personal exp, I can't help if it conflicts with others' opinion...

I traveled 3000 kms with 64 liters of Shell petrol(normal) approximately..
                        averaging 46.875 kmpl..

I ride rough.. 75-85 kmph on empty roads.... with lot of braking involved in other words nooob riding style...

                        Thinking of:
Riding next 3000 kms with max 60 kmph on Speedo and slow/decent acceleration... & with less braking...

Yes, i too think its not a mod. The fit and finish here is something a local mechanic wont be able to do. Its a suzuki dealer's service center too, as al vehicles in background are suzuki vehicles. There are two bikes with the same graphics. New color, new visor, and black front shocks. Not sure if the gear lever too is modified.

Lets hope the facelifted Gs150r comes in Oct 2011, as mentioned by Indian Rides website and many others. Per the info i got from dealer, gray color gs150r is the only available color currently, and if i like the color, they suggested to buy the current one as the new gs150r has only cosmetic changes.

Given how suzuki motorcycles india operates, dont expect too much from them, as they are in deep sleep and soon will go into coma. Also, like honda, now suzuki too are affected by strikes in the their plants.

Anyway, this facelifted gs150r is an old topic now and most of us have lost interest in it. And dont be surprised if you get scolded again for spreading rumors.

Is your bike engine switching off at speeds of 100 kmph?? Does this happen while riding in power mode too?? If your bike is working properly at lower speeds, i dont think it is a carburetor problem.

The TPS and engine mode together have a way of functioning, which a common man like me and even most suzuki mechs at dealerships are not aware of.

Water and mud getting into the underside of the mudguard is common in all bikes.

That crash guard can protect your knees from vehicles, like autosricks, that come too close. It is not made to protect every part of your body. On our roads, nobody is safe, you can get injured even if you are traveling in an SUV.

Yes, experienced mechs do check by hand. Can we do it? not all of us. We better go by the km reading on the odo to determine when to change oil.

Regarding the factory-fitted crash guard, yes i agree with you, it is factory-fitted on gs150r. So that brings another question. Does the kerb weight of gs150r include the weight of the crash guard and saree guard??

One launch each, right at the extremitites, of the segments( a 100cc Slingshot and the 250cc GW) with a main-dealer/factory outlet in all metropolitan cities would turn their ventures into a whole new ball-game.

Along with this, they should really make most of their popular models of CBU bikes available in India, like the Bking,GSX750R,GSR750.....these bikes would have many buyers in India.

If there is a face-lift of GS150R then it could be more than what we see at the pictures all-over the net.

It is simply because, logically the pictures we find on the net had no major changes and it could have been officially produced months ago.But even after that Suzuki is waiting or deciding on some other issues I think............these are my thoughts-maybe a bump in engine cc or some technical ugrades. That would make another whole new bike and not a New or Facelifted GS150R.
