About the valve clearance, no one would be stupid enough to do it by a road side. Even though we didnt have a proper garage we managed to do it on the car porch which we thought was a suitable environment at the time, anyways way cleaner than HH SVC.

You'r right the sound does vary from bike to bike. In my ZMA the tappet noise, when hot and dead cold is the same KACHAK KACHAK noise, only difference is that the intensity increases as the engine gets hotter.Originally posted by Drifty View PostTappet noise may slightly differ for different different engines, for e.g.the valve train noise in RTR engine is not the same as its in your ZMA!
If there is 'more than required' clearance between the valve head and the tappet, some engines produce 'tik-tik' sound even when at cold conditions. The kachak kachak
noise you had mentioned comes mostMotorcycling Experience:

Pardon me, Aswin. Here is the answer for it from your own posting in the previous page. “Not only experts, even kids like myself do it, I've done the same multiple times and that too while my bike was parked on the side of the road”.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostAbout the valve clearance, no one would be stupid enough to do it by a road side.
You forgot it in no time. That is why I said you are not a good student.

Oh, you're confused bro. I was talking about the carb tuning.Originally posted by punarvasu View Postthat too while my bike was parked on the side of the road

My ride was running lean, so making pistonning noise more prominant, so had to stop and retune.
I always keep a small screw driver with me for doing the same.
I would never adjust my tappets like that, and not only that, unlike other bikes the ZMA required two people for the job.Motorcycling Experience:

Thanks for detailed explanation.Originally posted by Drifty View PostWhats your odo reading? If there is no noise when the engine is cold then you dont have to worry about it,tappets generally tends to produce noise when they get hot but there is nothing wrong in getting them checked for proper clearance.
My bike is 5 months old wit 3000kms on odo.
my valve clearance was adjisted thrice and they told me it was normal all the time .
So now i m sure its different problem. The real problem s tat SVC mechs could not diagonise the problem .

Tuning carb and Adjusting tappets are not unnecessary maintenance.AFAIK adjusting tappets is mentioned in our HH Manuals, not sure about Suzuki's manual.Originally posted by punarvasu View PostI am totally against unnecessary maintenance woks, modifications and tunings.
Also if you are against this, then you can ignore it,why discouraging people from doing it?
After reading this, dont state that HH bikes are more vulnerable to tappet issue, thats why it is mentioned in the manual.

Valve clearance or tappet adjustment needs specific tools where in many SVC's we dont have.
i believe it cant be done on rodeside like fixing the tyre puncture
the below comment is from http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...s150r-590.html page
Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostI guess you are talking about valve clearance or tappet adjustment.
The tool he has mentioned is the feeler gauge for measuring, which is like a small blade with marking on it, since precise clearance of 0.1 or 0.2mm should be maintained.
On the other hand, this is not done pretty often. Most of the times the clattering sound comes from the cam chain, which can be adjused pretty easily. The tappets also do become loose with constant riding, the higher the bike revvs, the more often it needs adjustment. For eg.in my R15 tappet adjustment is prescribed in the manual at every 6K kms.
Please check the manual for the GS, it will give you the adjustment interval, as well as clearance values. More aggressive riding style would demand more often inspection.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

How is your DC conversion? If the winding is not started, start it from the stator plate leg which is grounded to the body, leaving a small length of 2-2.5 feet of winding wire which is to be connected to the RR without soldering. It is better as it keeps the beginning of the coil strongly tied.Originally posted by gmagesh14 View Post@all above :
Remove the stock coil carefully, without overheating with soldering iron while de-soldering it. Check the continuity of both the legs and ensure that one is not grounded.

Thanks Guys for tips and advice....
Had an awesome weekend with 13hrs of riding approx 420km.. (including breaks)
MUMBAI ----> PUNE -----> MUMBAI
Heard lots of compliments from my friends regarding...
Nice handling, speed and pickup... smooth firing
Touched 100kph on 6.5k rpm, I think it will go to 130 for 8k rpm...
Theres much fuss about its headlight, but I found it satisfactory. Though I havent compared it with any other bike... I found it comfortable on dark nights...
About Mileage: I filled 14.31L of Petrol...
It travelled 370kms when 3rd bar on fuel indicator went off (~6L)... So I suppose it gave around 55-65kmpl average (370/6 ~ 60.166 kmpl)...Last edited by mysti; 12-12-2011, 02:31 PM.___________________________________________
