        • Today called the APE SVC which I visited yesterday..
Yesterday the store incharge wasn't there and today when I called the manager, he gave the store incharge number..
When I enquired her for the RR, she said there were two models and we've only one piece in stock now.. She asked me to confirm with my mechanic to get the part no..
I told her that I've seen the old RR and I could identify it ..

Glad I could get one in brand new condition.. For the identification she teared the package in front of me to confirm the same and I immediately said that this was one I'm looking for ..

Got the invoice (Rs.1076 for RR incl tax) and left the place to SUZUKI SVC (SMK-GUINDY) for Gaskets..
For my surprise I got the magneto cover gasket (11483) -Rs.28 , but the smaller one (11485) is not available there and also they don't have that part no. updated in their system too..

So one step short of now to start the process....

          • guys today i noticed that after riding my bike for 10 kms or more the engine noise changes and i can hear a bit of timing chain. do i have to worry about it or is this normal in gs?

It is original as it is from the SC and both models are equally usable for us. We cannot expect to reuse the gasket after opening the cover.

                  • Hello guys my friend is planning to buy a new bike for normal use ie commutation with some power so he is looking for a bike in the 150- 180 segment. GS150 r was not in his list and I personally suggested the bike so he said he will take a test ride. I scrolled through first few pages of this thread but not having time to look through the entire 1000 pages as my exams are here . So all people help me by clearing my following doubts:

                    1) Pros and cons of the bike.
                    2) Average economy and maximum speed with which it can travel without much strain to the engine.
                    3) Service quality and Spares availability( Very Important )
                    4) Common issues faced in the bike and any other quality niggles if present.

And finally does the bike last enough or needs frequent repairs and the body parts and all get loosened off after 1 year use?

My friend has an affinity to accidents and are parts available easily?( in any case less than 1 month).

                      1) Pros include a smooth ride, good fuel efficiency, looks(subjective), build quality, 6th gear, good usable torque, Digital console. As for cons, some people who have taken a test ride feel that the brakes are not as good as some other bikes, commuter-ish riding stance.
                      2) There's an owners list in the first page of this thread where you can find the mileage feedback and top speed from different users.
                      3) Service quality depends on your city service centres, contact any GS owners in your city for feedback. Generally, in my city, spares even if unavailable get delivered by 2 weeks after placing an order.
                      4) All major quality niggles have been rectified with the latest upgrade of the bike.

I don't know which bike has such serious build quality problems but none of the users on this thread have reported such incidences.

Personally, I think your friend should not ride out till he learns how not to have an affinity to accidents.

Thanks a ton for the reply . And to be honest my friend is not a very good rider . I have been trying and will try my best to make him better .

Few months back when I was planning to take Karizma R, This bike was my second option. For me quality is a must factor. I checked the showroom but suzuki guys said 5 months waiting so sticked to karizma .

                          1. No cons to point out. Some experts have pointed out its kerb weight and power to weight ratio. GS is 149 kgs with oil, 15.5 litres of fuel etc and its power to weight ratio is 1:10.8, i.e., 1 horse power for each 10.8 kgs of the bike. For SZR it is 1:11.05, Unicorn is 1:10.96. Splendor – its sale was 1 million pieces per year – 1:14.55.
It is true that it affects the pickup of the bike but Suzuki has changed the gear ratios of the GS now, resulting good acceleration.
                          2. If well maintained in factory settings without carburetor self tuning and ridden sanely, you can expect an FE of about 60 kml.
Its maximum power output is at 8500 rpm. At that rpm, bike reaches 117.5 kmh speed. Some had claimed to have reached 139 kmh. My maximum is 109 on speedometer.
                          3. Service quality is different per service centre. Ask any of the GS owners in your locality. As far as I know, spares are easily available. But Suzuki’s spare parts are not available in open market.
A well maintained bike which is not used for idiotic experiments usually lasts long. Fiero is a legendary bike from Suzuki. We are expecting the same long lasting GS.

If this is your friend's first bike, then why not settle for smaller capacity bikes so that he can learn good riding skills?

If the waiting period is so high, then consider buying it in neighboring towns and transporting/riding it back home carefully.

Yes it does the 139 mark on odo....provided you give ample amount of smooth roads combined with slopes and also less crosswinds.....
