Do both coil rewinding and RR replacing at the same time. But do not expect to fit 110 watt bulb as the additional current needed is 6 amperes which cannot be produced even by rewinding with 18 swg wire. Any thicker wire will result over bulging of the coil and touching the rotor.

    • Yeah thats the maximum limit...... but the 55/60 would be enough.....

Sure sure buddy I'd do both coil & RR replacement..
The only part I might do later is FULL DC.. I will take some time for testing and monitoring ..

My friend Vishnu had posted a clear info earlier here,, it just needed a single wire link for full DC (yellow-white wire to orange wire)...

Perhaps he may have done this full DC conversion earlier. The wire you mentioned (yellow-white) is from the separate AC tap of the stock RR. The orange wire is the continuation of the red wire from battery after the ignition switch. (The red wire continues as orange wire after ignition switch).

That tap is for running headlight, position light etc

                  • Now all we need is a proper instruction sheet containing steps for DC conversion with contribution from everyone. We could even put it up on the DIY thread.

Any explanation about DC conversion is full of the words ampere, current, wattage, voltage, battery recharging rate, draining the battery etc, etc which pulls a common man back. The other factor is the warranty of the electrical which is nothing more than a one year replacement warranty of the battery which can easily be bypassed if the service centre is ready to help you.
It is an easy work if you can wind the coil neatly. From the pictures Maestro posted, it seems he has done it excellently. Contact him for guidance.

It would be useful to all users, new and old, if you do a detailed explaining tutorial everything from identifying the parts required to be modded, rough estimation of cost, tools needed, and each step, however negligible it may seem. And to people like me who are bad at DIYs, lots of pictures and illustrations would be helpful.

                            ^+1

                            Like from the basic steps..
1.Which side of the engine cover to open.
2.Direction of the coil to wind (Though we could know it from rewinding the original)
3.Precautions to be taken. etc etc

                            Today,
I'm planning to get the APE RR & 18guage copper wire...
Will check the engine gasket at nearby SVC and order if it's not readily available..

So, decided to convert? First of all, collect 300 grams of 19 or preferably 18 swg winding wire, Ape’s RR, DMM, high wattage soldering iron, soldering lead, flux, fiberglass insulation sleeve, 4-5 meters of good quality high ampere electric wire, 50 cm or so heat-shrink tubing, 200 ml insulating varnish, 8 mm T spanner, 4 mm Allen key, 17 mm socket spanner and lever to drain the oil, 1 set of both large and small magneto cover gaskets, Anabond liquid gasket, 2-3 small wooden wedges, 5-6 finger caps used in kitchen, oil, oil filter etc.
