      I was able to manage 531kms with 13.6 ltrs of fuel..thats 39kmpl.
It was 500kms of highway riding(70-120kmph) and 100kms of offroading+broken roads in the jungle. Also hit my topspeed during this ride-126kmph

GS performed brilliantly in highways, ghats, off the road and every other terrain...
Do you people think thats a decent mileage considering the type of roads and speeds?
      It's proper.....even I get such figures

Nice to hear that we all are in the same league

Anyone here using chain sprays to clean and lube the chain?
Did anyone try the WD-40 spray..is it good for GS?

I checked the oil, to my surprise there was no oil in the bike.
For better reading of Engine-Oil level; hold the motorcycle vertically on a level ground without center-stand; then check oil level through the inspection window. You need someone to assist you in holding the bike.

Oil inside is actually little more than what appears when the bike is on center-stand.

WD40 is used as a water dispersant (hence the WD) n not as a cleaning agent... it is effective in removing water n rust.... i m using it on rust prone area on my bike specially in monsoons otherwise dont use it frequently.... hav read on some thread here on xbhp that if WD40 is used for cleaning chain it removes the thin oil lining between the links of the chain.... n hence it creates friction between mating parts which results in early wear n tear of the chain n sprocket.....

if there is a need to clean ur chain just remove the chain n clean it in diesel thoroughly with an old tooth brush..... let it dry n then dip it in gear oil for sometime so that the oil reaches the between the links of the chain... rinse it n then attach it back n apply oil or grease n u r gud to go...

our bike chain is covered so dirt accumalation is not much of a problem.... just see to it that u lube the chain every 500kms or if it has become dry.... n u will be fine.....Hope this helps

Hey Manu I guess the average is quite ok considering your riding style.
BTW which place you had visited. A few pics would be nice I believe.
Also if you don't mind just let me know the next time you plan to ride somewhere(if that is fine with you).. We still haven't done that over due Lake trip

                @Vishnu,

Where are you? You were suppose to come back on 24th
                We really missed you(well almost)

                    • got 1st servicing done yesterday...
After the servicing I am feeling the gear shift bit harder than before. Spoke to the service manager, he took the ride and confirmed that he wasn't feeling any gear shift hardness. SVC guy told that I will get used to it and gears will become smooth gradually.

Further, today took my bike above 6000 RPM and touched 95kmph, and was amazingly stable, was ready to go more but didn't had road ahead to do so.

Sanjay, I too had the same problem.. After 2nd service the problem is over now... Gears shifting is smooth now... Done 4k+ kms & I'm using only the toe shifter after the 2nd service...

Don't worry about that now.. Go ahead it'll get settle down as you ride ..

Thanks Magesh for the reply, hoping for the same..
I had the habit of toe shifting but now changing my habit to heel shifting and getting used to it...Nevertheless I am enjoying the ride quality given by our GS

Instead of spending money to buy chain cleaners, lube it once in every 500 kms with lithium based grease and EP 140 gear oil.
Bikers are of different opinion about applying WD 40 on chain. If you still want to clean the chain, use kerosene or diesel.
