  • Hi guys as all of us know gsr is value for money bike than any other bike in 150cc segment. But still people prefer to buy a uni, p150,fz,apache etc rather than going for gsr. I hardly see a gsr in my college campus where 1000s of bikes are there. So what do you think must be the reason behind this. Here are some options..
    1) gsr is nt a good bike and has certain issues reagarding engine.
    2) Suzuki didnt make enough ads for gsr.
    3) Indian people still want to stick to the famous brands like hero honda, honda, bajaj rather going for suzuki.
    4) Any other

its a good bike thats the reason suzuki sales growth is higher than many other brands except mahindra

        • Done with the 2nd service, bike feels great..

          ODO-3400kms
+NO OIL CHANGE [running MOTUL 3000T 1300km done n oil still has golden color]
          +filter changed
          +chain adjust
          +disk pad cleaned

          Bill=40rs only

When i told him[SVC Engineer] not to change the oil, he was cool at me n asked which brand i use , how many kms done on this oil, when i changed to this oil etc...he had test ride too..

then we talked for a while, He told me that, "If you drive more on highways or signal races then tappets should be loose n for city commuters tappets should be tight"

seniors please explain, is it a fact?? MACH50????

Hey chill dude im not a gsr hater and not working with any survey website. Infact ive just booked a gsr. I just wanted to know reason behind such low quantity of gsr but in other ways it is good that its rare so that our bike becomes unique one amongst others.

Not an issue , the way you asked the questions sounds like a surveyor thus it made me kidding with you.

                • Guys, i got my bike from 9th free service yesterday
                  (bike completed 6200kms odo)
Changed oil to shell advance, i litre was not enough with filter change, so the SC people put additional 100ml veedol oil to maintain the level.

I got new tank, initially the SC people tried wiping it off with oil, but they couldnt remove the whole thing (but it got cleaned around 80%), so they changed it eventually, but now in the photo which was sent to suzuki, there is hardly any rust, suzuki will think i made a big issue over some small line of rust !!!

I had complained about gear shift, now they have adjusted to full clutch, feels weird compared to the convenient half clutch system, but the gears are really smooth will this setting.

And i finally asked about that doubt regarding engine (i had posted a pic long back with the white quality control check paint near spark plug thing and had assumed i had got a new bore and piston, that one), the Service people had no idea how the paint got there, they said they would have informed if they changed the bore etc, and the old oil did not have any bits and pieces of metal either.
So can i safely assume that my bore or piston was not changed and continue my usual over revving now ??

checked with my SC they said once you touch 8000 on ODO we replace the oil filter, believe it wont cost much for me

for me the only issue is kreech kreech sound from disc break thats it

any way guys let me know is their anything new they do on 5th service or its as usual water wash

Tappets are responsible for valve timings, opening and closure. The more an engine is revved the more faster the valves(intake and exhaust) works and to make the valves open and close the tappet chain works.A lower revving engine needs lesser valve operation and lesser tappet operation.

On performance machines,we have all heard of high lift camshafts, well these camshafts controls the tappet activity and are responsible how the valve timings are set in action.High lift camshafts allows more play to the tappet for excessive and fast valve activity.

It is a brief mechanism, hope I was able to make it clear.

Camshafts are present on all vehicles. It is denoted by OHC,Over Head Camshaft........vehicles are either SOHC or DOHC.Single Overhead Camshaft or Double Overhead Camshaft.DOHC vehicles are generally more powerful than similar capacity SOHC vehicles,it is because of multi-valve function and also faster activity of the valves.

Our GS150R is a SOHC vehicle with normal camshaft. So it neither has advantage of DOHC or High Lift Camshafts for fast valve timings. But it has other tech going into it like Xtp,short gear ratios, long stroke engine...to make it a very torquey bike.

Now what happens is,in GSRs which are revved excessively in instances of traffic light GPs or in case of constant high speed touring, the tappet needs to be loosened for aiding excessive valve activity, otherwise a tight tappet on such a vehicle would wear away quicker and thus the tappet life would decrease. While GSRs used for basic commuter purposes would not be revved very hard or excessively as a result of which,it wont harm the tappet if it is kept tight....but if the tappet is loosened on a slowly ridden vehicle, valve timings wont be proper and the vehicle would suffer a loss of Fuel Efficiency and power in low rev ranges.

Hence concluding all in basic terms:
                      1.Low Speed=lower revved vehicle=lower valve activity=Tight Tappet (adjusted)
                      2.High Speed=higher revved vehicle=higher valve activity=Loose Tappet(adjusted)

                      Hope this helps.

This is plain incorrect. A slightly loose tappet vehicle would infact perform a bit better a low rev and would feel sluggish at higher revs. A vehicle with too tight tappets would be a disaster waiting to happen.

Best and the only way to adjust tappets is to proper specifications or very slightly loose.

                            +1

The loose tappet will increase the bottom-end and top-end will go down and vice-versa,too loose a tappet will crack the rocker arm because of " lash ".Were as a too tight a tappet clearance will burn the valve.
Life begins, once you hit the power band !!

I've changed the oil filter at 400kms, 3000kms and now again at 6200kms. and i usually end up changing oil every 1200-1600kms because of this very frequent service schedule.
Since free services are over, i might just give it every 2k kms, 4-5 months, got enough things changed under warranty anyway, total cost exceeding 10k easily

The disc sound is probably because of dust stuck around the disc pad, just try spraying water, it'll probably go off, if not then they'll have to open it and clean it properly and fit it back.

I guess you can just get the usual washing itself for the service, if you want you can ask for carb overhauling or chain lubrication, both around 70 bucks each, but dont ask them unless you feel its needed, for me it was a pretty much a waste.
