My odo is now on 8800+. Present condition of my bike is not well. Main problem is decline in performance. So I am planning for 3rd service this week or should I wait for some more kms.
That's good riding! 😀 So how did you notice performance drop?

Also, please tell cost of 2nd service.
Other than things in manual, what should we check...

If I open full throttle, my bike is making huge sound and moving slowly. Its like clutch plates have worn out.

My 2nd service bill was 340/-. Nothing other than manual list. But tell them to change the oil in front of you.
Safety first. Happy riding!!

What engine oil you are using?

No bro. He don't have levers to sell. He said, it reduces the engage distance which attains friction zone quickly other than long levers. Anyway I will ask this to Asc and decide.

You have used a mineral oil for 4800kms whereas its normal drain interval is 2000-2200 kms. Its normal for engine to sound very harsh because the oil has lost its lubrication properties. There is nothing wrong with your bike. Get the oil changed in service and your issues will get solved.

But honda has given 6000km services intervals

I changed the oil outside to an oil of my choice. I suggest you change the oil to Shell AX7 at any Shell petrol bunk. Warranty won't be affected if you don't tell the ASC.

The 6000kms drain interval seems unrealistic. It may hold if the conditions are ideal.

Many CBR owners change oil at company specified intervals which is 6k and their bikes cross 1 lakh kms without an engine problem. If a 250 engine can do this, a 160 will have no problem.

Changing oil early not only pollutes the environment, it also creates a herd mentality that early oil change is a must to protect your engine. So you get people changing mineral at 1500kms and synthetic at 4k. You get splendor and discover owners using fully synthetic Shell Advance and posting increased performance. There are new owners who are worried that company oil will destroy their engine, and want urgent advice as to which oil to put in their 2 week old bikes. There's a whole bunch of people who change oil as per feel. But I cannot find a single guy on Xbhp and in real life who says his engine got screwed because he changed his oil as per manual.[emoji6]

The 250 engine you are talking about is liquid cooled whereas the 160 engine is air cooled. And Honda recommends FS oil for CBR. The 6k interval on CBR is of a FS oil. Now you will say that you have filled mineral and running fine. Thats because your liquid cooled engine will never reach that temperature that an air cooled engine will. Air cooled engines run very hot comparatively to liquid cooled. Thus engine oil deteriorates at a faster rate in air cooled as compared to liquid cooled.

Do you change oil according to manual? Bajaj DTSi oil claims drain interval of 10k. Find any person on xbhp or in real life who has done that? Honda recommends FS oil for CBR but you have filled mineral. Are you following the manual now?

Nowhere in my 2012 CBR250 manual does Honda recommend Throttle FS. Even the recommended grade which is 10w30 can be changed according to ambient temperature.

Your points about engine oil are quite true, but is there a documented case, in any manufacturer, where the engine failed due to oil change and service at company specified intervals?

Honda built the bike, Honda tested the bike in Indian conditions and provided a service interval. Let's assume Honda knows the Hornet is air cooled. Then why recommend an 'inferior' oil?

Hello Shashank
How is your bike performing after changing the oil to Shell AX7. How much is the cost.

leech true, they would have tested in Indian conditions.

But in most cases the oil doesn't last so long being mineral. It lasts a maximum of 2000kms before turning watery and black. I'd rather not take a chance and change the oil.

Shell AX7 is a good oil. I feel it's good enough for our bikes. Costs 400 at Shell bunks though you could get it cheaper elsewhere.
