RE days Himalayan
Hi friends ..its been a month of my ownership experience with the Himalayan and i have already crossed 3000 km. Can not keep myself away from the bike for more time
. Here i write few things of my ownership expeience.
Well the showroom experience is mixed in guwahati. RE has 2 showrooms in guwahati. I went to the older well known one in VIP road. My first visit and test ride bike was unavailable. My next visit and i was allowed a test ride for around 4-5kms one way in moderate traffic road. Initial ride was horrible due to gear issue. While engine running, i was unable to put the bike in neutral. If i pull, its in1st gear and if i push its 2nd gear. Added bonus of hard gear shifting is alreay put some scratches on my formal shoes. After the 9-10 km of riding i was not successfull to reach neutral even a single time. When asked no one provided a strong reason for it. Though i must say everything else in the bike was good infact surprisingly good for RE. still gear issue was enough for me to almost drop the idea..i came back saying no to booking. The surprise thing was that no one at showroom tried to convince me or explain the reason of thia gear issue. Either they are selling profits or they are simply not interested to console a prospective buyer.
Few days roll back and after some more research on youtube, forums etc. Thought of giving one more try. This time to the other showroom near Maligaon. This time straight away asked for permission to crank a pdi ready showroom piece. I only wanted to change gear not ride it. So they agreed and i tried. Bang on..neutral came in the first attempt. Issue resolved. I assume in the test bike some hostile riding was done without any kind of maintenance which might result in the gear box trouble.
Without second thought booked it bought it. They had 2 whites ready. When asked for pdi the manager kind of stared at me and replied pdi is already done. I didnot try much as i already had enough of these kind of replies and simply said ok. I did a detail scrutiny myself and finally selected the newer on ie. August 16 make. The other piece was July 16 make. I tried my negotiation skills for some freebies and ended up getting a free taflon coating. Well a little loaf is better than no loaf.
This is how my showroom trip ended and new companion strated with a push. I christened my new company as 'snowy' after the pet of tin tin. Two reasons behind the name. One is its colour ia snow white so the names suit. Second is like snowy its gonna accompany me in most of my rides hence forth.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan
Hii guys...
I got my h on 7 Oct..the observations are :-
1.ride quality is better than any other re bike.
2.easy to ride.
3.my bike is leaking oil from spark plug area and engine making weired sound something like humming..
4. Gear shift is real hard it's really tough to find 0 from 1.
Is all the himalayan having same issues or mine only.kind of worried. How to check if my bike is having the upgraded rocker arm and being taken care of the gear shifting issue.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan
3. There shouldn't be any leakage. Get it checked. Listen to other Himalayans. The engine has a bit of noise. But to be safe get it checked. Go for second opinion i.e. other ASS.Originally posted by Namandeep Soni View Post3.my bike is leaking oil from spark plug area and engine making weired sound something like humming..

4. The company will rectify the issue don't worry if there is one.
The gear shifting will be hard initially but will smoothen. Attached are pictures of relocating the clutch cable. It straightened the bend and clutch feels lighter. One life to ride....

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan
I gave my bike to SSA for oil leaking problem at around 300 km.
They did something and said it won't happen again I checkd and ran byk for more 200km and gave bike for 1st service. Thn after first service while on a ride after around 700 km the oil started leaking again and this time more oil from both side of the head. I had to call off my ride and come back. The sound of engine is the same humming.
Though the ride quality is far above peers but these RE problems are headache going to c the SSA again tomorrow......
I'm feeling for my Electra.....which I sold for himalayan...at least she was going good😢😢😢

Change the service center or write an email. RE is taking Himalayan seriously even if service centers are not.Originally posted by Namandeep Soni View PostI gave my bike to SSA for oil leaking problem at around 300 km.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan
Hmmm, So i got my bike a couple of days ago. Went on a short ride around 300kms. To be honest I was constantly being bothered regarding the faults i might find in the bike as previous owners here and outside faced some issues with the himalayan.
This post is for you guys, who are looking for a second opinion/ advice regarding the royal enfield himalayan.
Its a damn good bike. The issues regarding the speedometer console (i.e, gear indicator, fuel gauge, compass etc) has been resolved. The gears are a bit hard and gets smoother as you ride, but that comes with many a bikes, and I'm sure will be resolved after the first service. The gear indicator is super fine and accurate.
The bike gets a bit hot in traffic conditions (this can be explained and comforted as the engine is still running in).
It runs and goes like a freaking horse with crackers up its rear end when you let it loose on the highways. its a beautiful machinery to own and trust me when i say that you will not regret this decision.
People should stop worrying about minor issues as it is a machine and it is meant to have some at some point or the other. I have noticed that seasoned riders/ the ones who have had major riding experiences wont be bothered by these as they understand the situation and act accordingly.
Guys who are new to riding/touring- Just peace out guys, understand the bike. Be one with it. Talk to it and it will talk back.
The bike has got carburettor, spokes and tubed tires for a reason. If these are something that you do not understand and is bothering you a lot, Please research/ do comparison of them, google pros and cons. If you are still not impressed then please move on.
For those who compare the himalayan with other bikes out there- You are not doing a good job of it. This bike has no competition. There is no adventure tourer out there at this price and features. You either like touring/adventure motorcycling or you don't. There is no third option.
Every other bike out there may it be mojo or duke or any other royal enfield, It is all not an adventure tourer as the himalayan
.
Please understand the category of the bike and what you'd like to do with it before you buy a bike. The specs sheet is not a way to brag/compare a ride.
PEACE!

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan
Hi all. I have just completed 4000km with my snowy. And am i more than happy to say that its a great bike..thanks to RE for offering something unique and wonderful. About performance yes it runs 100+ non stop without complaint and no vibration, rattling. About braking, its progressive..rare break is skiddy and locks up.front is awesome..need to pull harder for quick stop but does not lock up..advisable to use 70-30 or 80-20 for better effect.
About mileage ride hard in all terrain still returns 30kmpl.
About looking dept. People drools and stare everywhere.even ladies stare the bike..ha ha.
Just cam back from a long ride to east and north sikkim. Himalayan is morr attention magnet than other power bikes.
Almost time for second servicing..got very few issues with the bike.
1. White colour is a dirt magnet. Better go for the black.
2. After the long trip bike self starter is not working in neutral. When pulled clutch it works. No idea why.
3. Be extra conscious while parking at slopes, elevation etc.its damn tough to maneuver alone and u might need a hand of help.
4. Offroading is quite doable but better to avoid heavy muddy and slushy surface. Because if rare tyre is stuck its impossible to get out without a push.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan
Hei friend..i had high category Offroading in zuluk valley east sikkim last week. It was a non existing road with Boulders stones and hard soil..i completed more than a kilometer there..but no issue with the saree guard or chain cover.it stays without rattling. The tour was total of around 1500 km..absolutely no issue with anything regarding these 2 items.Originally posted by drifter View PostOne incident of a Himalayan somebody i know came across during a small off-roading session, the saree guard and chain cover seems to have fallen off.
Are the parts so loosely bolted.

rajithcherian - do put the dyno chart prints here whenever you get your bike and a standard bike dyno tested so that the power and torque curve difference can be seen by us aficionados as well.

I got it custom made from ShivajiNagar (bangalore) next to the church, If I remember correctly I paid Rs 900 for the same, very good material, though the colour is odd, will attach some picture's soon.
