After using it for 5k km all i can say is the vibrations make you tighten the tank and cowl nuts and bolts every now and then.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
@zma0101 Can you Please explain the above highlighted questions.Originally posted by zma0101 View Post
GEAR SHIFT AND LEVER PLAY
Crucial for a smooth transmission is the clutch lever play.
CASE 1:- If the lever is too tight clutch plates will not have space to breathe and will over a period of time will heat up very fast and with the wear n tear and the friction, these plates will get destroyed resulting in lack of pickup and drop in mileage.
CASE 2:- If the play is too much or in other words the lever is free or too light then you will find it difficult to shift gears.
SOLUTION:- Look at your dominar key, look at it vertically. You see the thickness of the key, yes that is your ideal clutch play.
What do you mean by thickness here? Do you mean the length of the key when its vertical?
HAINN!! SERIOUSLY, USE A KEY FOR CLUTCH PLAY
1)Take your key and press the gear lever
2)Place the key in the gap
Gap means between the clutch lever and handle grip?
3)Check the play here, if you find the clutch wire has more strength and is tight loosen it by a touch
4)Or else if you think the clutch wire loose by the time it touches the key then tighten it
Entire idea of this exercise is to keep that bare minimum play or free space so that the clutch plates breathe as well as clutch engages the best way when you press the lever.
Bajaj has a tool through which they check the lever play and is of the same thickness as that of our key.
NOTE:- Speaking of clutch, the day you have to replace your clutch wire you will have to wait a bit longer at your service center because to access the clutch wire you will have to remove the tank and then you will be able to replace the faulty clutch wire. Also keep a spare clutch wire handy and learn how to dismantle the tank and other components, it's pretty easy, I have done it twice already to clean my air filter and filter cabinet. God forbid during a road trip you face a situation of broken clutch wire , you should be able to do it yourself
For more read the google doc:- https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing
Also if you could post a detailed log about how to dismantle the tank it would be so helpful.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi guys,
i m new to this thread. i have clocked 5300 kms on my dominar and is due for 2nd service.
Yesterday i faced a problem with my bike. it wasnt starting . If i press the start button only the coolant fan was starting to rotate. i had to push and start (in 2nd gear) the bike.
What could be the issue? Also at 5300 kms the display didnt have the spanner symbol which should have appeared at 4500 kms.
Could any expert explain me? cause the service center guys dont seem to be responding well

Was the stater engaging at all. Was the bike stuck in a false neutral? Did you try to start with the clutch depressed? the starter does not engage if it thinks bike is in gear, that could be one possible reason.Originally posted by vigneshv View PostHi guys,

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hello Dominar owners,
Thanks for making this conversation so interesting, learnt a lot from you guys. And yes this helped to zero in on buying "DOM".
Two months of ownership, 1500kms under the belt on this machine. One small 100kms breakfast run and another 400+kms pune-mum-pune ride covered. The bike head handled very well for me. Except for a few niggles which were sorted out due this platform, has more of a good experience.
During the trip I purposely rode 4-5 hours at a stretch without breaks with pillion, which confirms that seats are really comfortable, engine is a breeze, between 3-4 gear could manage the ghats, unnecessary gear shifts were not required. Brakes, definitely better, much much better than the Mojo's, REs. Actually I should say far superior..
It was only after 12 hours of ride did we start to feel pain on the bums.
Two things I miss badly on this bike however,
1. Hazard light blinkers.
2. Gear indicator.
I just wish BAL gives a retro fit option soon for us.
Another aspect I observed during my road trip, and has been covered recently in the conversation is headlights.
The headlight is great till the time it's a pitch dark road. But the moment there's a glaring high beam (which is coming in Pune) the white light is overshadowed.
It's a personal experience I don't know if anyone of you have experienced- the right shoulder pains after 6-7 hours of riding, not sure if it's bike specific or me specific. Has anyone experienced this??
My 2cents 😀

s the started engaged at first but the bike didn't start. then I tried it multiple times but only the coolant fan was starting and nothing else. After that I push started my bike and then the starter began working normal again.Originally posted by deepDmnr View PostWas the stater engaging at all. Was the bike stuck in a false neutral? Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Guys new ecu update has started arriving at various centers here in Delhi NCR, namely Bagga link Karol bagh, Deewan okhla, Krishna Gurgaon as confirmed my members of whatsapp group who got the new map and are already feeling the difference. I might try getting it by end of the week.
Do check for it in ur respective area.
File number 112 for ABS and 113 for non Abs.

As of now looks only a drained battery do get a proper check as how it is getting drained in a fairly new bike.Originally posted by vigneshv View Posts the started engaged at first but the bike didn't start. then I tried it multiple times but only the coolant fan was starting and nothing else. Hey Buddy, congrats on the bike! Good to see you aren't facing a lot of issues. However, don't dream about retro fitting, that can never be done for the gear indicator. The hazard lights on the other hand can be installed rather simply i think!Originally posted by srijan88 View PostHello Dominar owners, Thanks for making this conversation so interesting, learnt a lot from you guys. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
I think with a mod...gear indicator can be installed... I've an idea for that... Being mechanical engineer i don't think it's impossible... Just need a sensor connected to gear shift lever which would then detect the position of lever and then display the number on a small single digit led display... Although can't comment on accuracy...Originally posted by Raman Swaminathan View PostHey Buddy, congrats on the bike! Good to see you aren't facing a lot of issues. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Won't be a retro fit by Bajaj is what I meant.Personal fitment can be done with a simple counter mechanism, you won't even need digital circuits. Just a mechanical circuit with an analog indicator would work, if thats what you want. I usually just follow the KMPH and RPM to gauge the gear. post 100kms on any bike, you can almost never go wrong there.Originally posted by Ghostfreak View PostI think with a mod...gear indicator can be installed... ..Thanks for sharing the information. I have clocked around 850 kms on my Dominar. Really not sure would the new ECU update be applicable to my bike. How do you figure it out? Does the bike need to checked/analyzed and only if the issue is found by service center technician, the update is applied ? Or, by default all the bikes manufactured before the date of make of ECU update, become eligible for the update by default ?
Cheers-
