A small point of concern, I'm not entirely sure about what backpack to get. Normally since I take the car for all trips I just use duffel bags. Will a rucksack work out? Basically I'll just have my clothes n some camera equipment.
I'm looking at the 60ltrs rucksack from wildcraft, seems good but dunno about the posture for 600 odd kms. Any input is appreciated
A 60 ltr rucksack will make the setup top heavy and you will end up having to battle the weight on your shoulders. It is too large to be placed on the rear seat with a tie down strap or across. See if a 35 lt works. I would suggest using a staggered duffel bag setup with tie down strap.

Hi Everyone,

After much deliberation and discussions with all the stakeholders, I took delivery of a Midnight blue Dominar ABS yesterday. The wait period was about 15 days. I rode the bike for approx 60 kms yesterday with a mix of excellent, good and extremely ugly roads all with and without a pillion.

Mandatory first impressions, and here we go!:

Very impressed that the bike doesnt feel under-powered at all even with a pillion. Got lots of people asking about it on traffic lights (not exaggerating) and some even followed the bike upon recognizing it. Had asked the dealer before taking delivery about the number of units sold and he said under 20, hence the attention. A group of guys were also pleasantly surprised that the bike was manufactured by Bajaj, and they initially thought it was an import. Lots of people also indicated about the AHO coming from the opposite end.

Found an empty patch of road and tested the ABS. This is the first time I have done this on a bike and the safety net feeling of the ABS made me feel like telling every person I meet to buy an ABS bike only! Its almost unnatural to not have the tyres lock. I am not at all s speed-freak and most of the times the ABS will never be used but still its good to have and not use than to need and not have.

Apart from this I would like to give a special mention to the fabric of the seat which feels very car like and comfortable. My wife likes it too.

Absolutely no heat generation from the engine on to the legs. The radiator did activate once though. My favourite part about the bike is definitely the exhaust note. It feels angry, feels good! LED headlight seems a bit gimicky. Dont get me wrong they are good but they seem to be very similar in effectiveness to the regular beams of my erstwhile NS. I mean they seem to do as good a job as regular headlights. Apart from the colour change I did not notice too massive a difference.

Negatives are actually very subjective like small tank capacity when its meant to be a power cruiser and the fact that the horn seems a bit puny. One strong negative aspect is probably the lack of feel from the rear break. This was there in a Pulsar 180 I had extensively used a few years ago, it was there in the Pulsar NS i owned for 4 years and its there in the Dominar. So i guess its a chink in the armour which has found itself into the DNA for Bajaj. Since i primarily use the front and rear break in a 90:10 ratio I dont mind much but it is a negative nonetheless.

Havent taken any pics yet as I was way too busy riding and getting acquainted with the bike. Happy so far, will keep riding. If anyone in Vadodara wants an up close look at the bike dont hesitate to PM me.

Oil is made by Total so it has to be good no need for motul i guess.
Chain was also spry cleaned and lubed by some bajaj spry i think oks but that was not charged. I did not let them polish the bike and took home a dirty bike would be polishing with Formula 1.
ECU was also updated.
Will observe the bike for few days i would update here. As of now the buzz which comes and around 4k rpm has reduced considerably.
Madaditya bhai we have a very big whatsapp group of D400 started by Bagga link here in delhi and guys do go for group rides, and many are going to pulsar festival of speed this sunday at gurugram. Hello, i am from greater noida, i will be going for the service soon as i have completed 400kms. Do the mechanics ask/let you choose the oil? How much time did they take for the whole process? I am yet to be added to the whatsapp group :/

6Rs is for some o ring used with oil filter. And chain was spray cleaned in front of me with some cleaner and the mech wiped it and lubed it again. Waise it was already cleaned during the water wash.

No the dont give option for oil it is the only oil they have in 10w50 it is made by total and is as good as motul. Be at the workshop as early as possible as they have only one person working on d400. I reached there at 1pm and was done by 5.30pm 3 more d400 before mine. So it takes time and one advice do not go for the wurth polish they offer for around 100bucks the way they do it is wurth less.
All this is for bagga link karol bagh workshop.

If I am comprehending it right, then yes, then that's really strange. When a wheel lock is sensed, the brake levers are pulsed and the braking force is modulated so the wheels don't lock, but the wheels continue to rotate no matter how hard the levers are pressed. The pump just modulates the pressure, so that braking is there, albeit not allowing the wheels to lock.

I have some questions. Does your lever(s) flutter when ABS kicks in? Does the bike itself jerk w.r.t. to lever flutter?

Cheers!

Yeah, u got what i said. Thats why it is strange.

The rear pedal vibrates a bit as the ABS locks. I havent tried the front yet. Im not sure if the wheel lock is happening that strong as if it makes the bike to be jerky. But, the sound is as if you hit the bike's wheel with a small hammer. I dont wanna try it again as it is scary that i might damage the gear/clutch.

May be i should try it in a test ride vehicle.
Ride Safe!

When ABS lock you hear this katatakak sound from the levers, that's completely normal. The bike can and will stall when the ABS kicks in and the engine speed becomes drastically low with respect to the load, again that too is perfectly normal. Check with other Dominar, I have a feeling it's completely normal.

Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Noticed this about dominar. Gear shifts and engine is much smoother after 15 min of riding. Engine sounds stressed at cold start with full tank and smoother from half tank and lesser. I thought engine cold start knocking was fuel grade related but maybe related to how much fuel there is in tank. Anyone have similar experience?

Bought my D400 Twilight Plum TwinChannel ABS on Feb 8 from JaiKrishnaa Bajaj, Coimbatore

Finished 550km yesterday and got the bike serviced.. It took about ₹1300.. Asked the service centre people to add indicator buzzer which added ₹20

Things I noticed after 1st Service:
The Bike felt completely different
It felt somewhat underpowered than it was before
The Vibration @ 4-5K RPM was still there
Gearshift was smooth

I guess the performance will subsequently increase in future services

Does anyone have any idea to prevent the scratch on the tank just above the rubber pad.. I thought of sticking an Arrow tank pad like the one in pulsar 220..Ideas are welcome

Congrats brother . I need review on that scimitar jacket you are wearing which on it is and how it is.

For tanks protection you can try protection flims 3m or the local one . Or use some good polish like 3m or formula 1 on regular basis. Or you can tape it with black carbon look vinyl.
For performance drop , i my guess is you did not get the ecu update as your bike seems to be of second lot so it would get better with some usage. I get the ecu update at service as mine is a first lot bike and now there is no drop in performance and bike feels more refined than before. Vine have also reduced.

DO NOT QUOTE the entire picture set. Remove them before quoting.
