All this while i had my eyes on the Rs200 abs version, last night i went for a ride on the Dominar 400 and man it got me bigtime ! , it got me so much that i actually went through all the 143 pages of this thread to read about everything the bike ! and man this is one hell of a bike. surprising how riding style changes economy so drastically. some people have gotten 19 kmpl while the maximum was 43 for some ! this is very good news for me as the only deciding factor for me was the mileage since the price difference here in goa for the rs200 and the dominar 400 both abs variants is only 15k approximately , and the mileage difference being about 10km, i think i should blindly go for the dominar now ! it would be the perfect upgrade for me from my pulsar 220 (2009 year ), and since fuel is only 60 rs per liter here [emoji14] its even better ! i'll mostly book the bike this month and get it in the next month. im getting about 35k for my pulsar 220 50k ridden, worth the deal ? any views would be helpful here.

now on my main question, did anyone do long rides say about 300km at a stretch ? did the engine heat up a lot ? any jerkiness after its heated up?

also is the instrument cluster change contrast as per day and night ? (noticed it in the above picture)

      Bro are you serious???
I mean how much do you weigh? And pulsar 220 giving you up 52kmpl
Well how on earth is that even possible bro??? Please justify your statement bro.... Elaborate it out a bit please

I know the bikes are very different but the money saved in buying the D400 is something really significant (part of which I can use to upgrade my riding gear! xD) and that's why I'm here.
        I have a few queries and it'd really help a lot :-

        1) Can the bike do 110-120ish speeds all day without breaking a sweat? At what RPM in top gear do the speeds 100, 110 and 120 kmph come up? Any idea of FE one can expect at these speeds on long hauls? Comparo with a 390 Duke, anyone?

        2) Any idea of how the new 390 Duke fares against this in terms of refinement and mileage? Is the difference in riding experience really that huge so as to justify the price difference for someone who's looking at a riding pattern comprising of 85% weekend rides, 14% touring and the occasional track-day once in a blue moon (track days are impossible with the D400 AFAIK)?

        3) Does the bike heat up as bad as the Duke? I've heard it's not as bad at all!
Duke 390 2017. You get what you pay for. If you are young and can afford it, go for it. The D400 is not without problems. Some of which you might not find in the Duke 390 2017. A second iteration/edition bike will be better bike any day than a first iteration. My 2 cents.

My friend also got 50 kmpl on his 220.
          Rides very sanely.
          He easily gets 43-48.

          Bajaj claims 54kmpl for RS200,
          I get 45+ kmpl
Very gentle on throttle, not using brakes unnecessarily, keeping the revs steadily between 4-5k rpm.

          Cheers.

I weigh only 58 kilos as of now, used to weigh about 50 kilos back in 2010 , and that riding was only on the highway going constantly at 60 kmph and with linear acceleration and no hard breaking , mileage calculation was with the trusty method of filling up to the brim. what i've noticed was, sudden acceleration doesnt really make sense in city traffic and on the highways accelerating linearly definitely helps , (accelerate gradually and smoothly rather than opening up the throttle full way up to 5k rpm and shifting to next gear).

even now i easily get a fuel efficiency of about 42 kmpl in city with my pulsar 220, but if i take a pillion, its down to 37 or so. and its not just my bike , once a friend got curious and we exchanged the bikes, redid the fueling and achieved similar figures. but i dont really expect this to happen with the dominar since its got much more torque and we hardly need to open the throttle to make the bike go ahead. oh well fingers crossed man.. i still cant decide if i should go for the dominar or the rs200 :\

Yeah i know, but the minimum i've gotten out of the bike was 23-25 :P then again i was doing 120-140 on the highway.

              Hi Shriomman,

I am from Goa and even I was stuck between and duke 390 and dominar. Zeroed down of Dominar as I wanted a cruiser for long interstate rides.

Btw how was your experience at the local bajaj dealer here in Goa (Panaji).?

And yes I booked a white abs dominar last week.!

              Cheers,

                  Hi Freebiker19,

                  Nice to e-meet you!

Good to know about the Dominar group. Is it active enough?

And I asked about the dealer as initially they said they said no test ride available at their St. Inez showroom. However I took them to Twitter and bajaj sales team arranged a test drive the very same day at the same showroom.

Btw we should catch up once my dominar is delivered.!

                  Cheers,

Cleaned and lubed the chain of my D400 today using my cars's scissor jack to lift the rear wheel in air for free movement.
Sprayed with wd40 , cleaned it with an old toothbrush and a lint free cloth, and finally sprayed speedol chain lube that i have bought for my earlier bike Avenger220.
While using the jack i place it at the rear part of the exhaust box and used a rubberband to engage the front break to prevent the bike from moving froward.

Here is the video link of jack in action.

                      I forgot to mention:

The silencer was not removed to drain the oil. They just removed the cowl protecting the sensor at the bottom and drained the oil. Few drops did fall on the silencer, but that is OK i guess.

Sorry mods for the back to back posts.
Hi, I completed 2K kms and still was unable to cross 93kmph. Then I took the bike to service centre. They did an ECU update again. After which I'm able to go past 93. I am able to cruise in 100+. I touched 130 thrice. The vibrations have also gone down a bit. ECU updates do make +/-ve changes.
                      Cheers,

                        Hi,
I have done only 260 kms and just to check this limiter, today I tried going past 95-100 mark and to my surprise there was no limiter and i went till 120+ and then realized that i should not rev beyond that as engine is still in break in period.😉

                        Cheers... Ride safe 👍🙏

Good Piyush, but my bike's wierd condition of not going past 93kmph started after the 1st service. And try not to go beyond 85kmph till 2k KMs.

I'm planning to buy my 1st bike... Tried Dominor too but feels a bit heavier for me... So I'm going with ns

I would highly recommend you to buy the bike from sitara motors in navelim,,margao. The service here is much better as compared to the dealership in panjim, I've serviced the bike at both places and I'm letting you know from experience. Also all the colors of the dominar are already available there, they say it takes one month to take the delivery, but if you know the owner or higher end staff I think you can get the bike within 3-4 days too. I remember this situation when I bought my p220 back in 2009. Anyways if you do buy the dominar, maybe we can meet up someday. I live in margao

Oh thanks for the heads up! I will ask for delivery from Navelim showroom.
I know the manager there let me call him tomorrow and check if they have stock available.
The sad part here in Goa is that there is only one dealer for most of the motorcycle brands.
