hmm, that's strange cuz i couldn't find it, maybe it wasn't workshop manual thn. should I talk to my svc for that ?
anyway, yes i had a feeling that it wasn't a good way to test it, but it still shows what amps those components take from the battery when bike is not cranking. so now atleast i know the ballpark figure of how much power fully stock bike needs for itself. i'll try your suggestion as well.i just need to be perfectly sure i won't overload it with 30wx2 or 40wx2 lights. as i'm kinda paranoid about electronics of this bike i don't want to ruin it and get stuck somewhere in the night.

If you want to play safe then keeping RR as spare will be good in case if it go bad with load.

yea they don't sell it, but they did let me take a look at it.
anyway, i'll be using it same way as you did, via directly from battery and relay. but i'm thinking of making a separate switch for relay instead of taking +ve from ignition.
Hi All, I currently own Yamaha R15 V2 and planning to upgrade to higher capacity bike mostly 250/390. My riding would be mixed of Highway and City (stop go) traffic around 70 km daily. I had taken test ride of initial/first batch FZ25 (not sure of the year) for a Day (70 km) and found below issues:
1. Clutch and Throttle were too hard. Both of my wrists started paining after some time.
2. Gear shifting is also very hard especially if you compare to butter smooth gear shifting of R15.
3. Some weird metallic noise coming from engine above 6k rpm.
4. Seat is also hard and becomes a bit uncomfortable after an hours ride.
Can the latest i.e. 2018 owners throw some light on above points? I know seat hardness will remain the same in the new model but are the first 3 points addressed in the new models or you guys still face these issues?

1. yep it's still kinda hard at first but after sometime you will get used to it. you can try aftermarket grip on top of sock one for extra leverage.
2. can't say how it is compared to r15, but for me it's very smooth. although i have issues getting it to neutral (actually i have this problem with every bike with 5/6 gears)
3. no such issues so far.
4. seat is a bit hard but it's actually very good for long rides as it doesn't sag after 1-1.5hrs of riding.
this is on june 2018 manufactured bike. 1060 odo. first service done.

Hello, here are my observations after 8k+ kms on the fz25. First things first, V2 is an excellent motorcycle and you will miss the deltabox on spirited rides. Now my views on your observations -
1- You are used to the committed stance of the V2, it will take a week or two to get used to it. Fz25 is a super comfortable motorcycle.
2- Yes, compared to the R15, they are. But mine have become much better after crossing 7k kms mark, a proper chain and gear shifter lubrication regime really makes it very smooth.
3- That noise is the tappet, absolutely normal and nothing to worry about.
4- Again you are used the seat of the R15. Fz25 has a pretty decent seat but adding an inch of foam makes a lot of difference.
My suggestion to you-
Sure the 390 is just incomparable in terms of sheer power. But as you said you go through a lot of stop go traffic everyday (I'm assuming 25 kms out of your 70 kms ride), you are better off with the fz25 as the KTMs tend to be a pain in the crowded areas. The heat management, although improved, is still far from ideal during the summers. Overheating also causes more wear and tear. You should also check out the dominar, a much more friendly version of the 390.

Now coming back to FZ25 can the clutch and throttle be adjusted to make it more relaxed/comfortable?
Also if there is a tappet noise how can we be so sure that it will not cause any issues in the long run?
I have ridden R15 for around 82000Km in these 7 years and not once the engine has been touched. Can we get the same reliability from FZ engine?

I'd suggest you take a look at the Dominar if there's an itch to upgrade. That bike has achieved a lot of things and milestones that no other bike has done. There's the RC390 if you really want that sheer brute force and better heat management than the Duke 390.
Dominar has surprisingly managed to keep heat to a much lower level than the D390 so it is an all rounder.
The other committed bikes are Kawasaki Ninja 300 or the Yamaha R3 if the budget allows.

The clutch and gear will get softer as you ride. Regarding the tappet noise, the fz25 is an SOHC with rocker arms at the heads. These rocker arms make the noise. But, they are better for heat management and durability. I would say an fz25 would give the same engine life as your r15. I have owned it for 10600 kms now, and the engine keeps getting better.
