These 're not interchangable. SVC plonged-in a 13T into my Apache 180 since, they didn't have a 14T and this has affected the gear-ratios, in turn the 'at Xth gear/Y000rpm, speed = ABkm/hr' figures. Surely, there is a drop in the top speed. The acceleration is hopeless too. Vibrations start and end early. There's no signature feel of the stock.
After waiting for a long time(1000kms), I could source a 14T from TVS, which I will replace asap! Hell with 13T and Apache 180 combo!!
Why so much price difference, and your quote is forcing me to think again .

I think the bike is fine, because I didnt ride any RTR180 with FS oil. So I really dont know how much vibes come down & I think I have quite a lot of vibes(But got used to it in this 7k kms )

P.S. Decided to stick with the Shell Advance Ultra. Bought a pack to top up yesterday. Fallen in love with the smoothness and response it's giving Even the exhaust note is nice and even.
Thanks for the reply. So should I get Motul 5100 or Shell Advance Ultra? You are confusing me Also how much does Shell Advance cost??

        2. The Kill switch wont work whenever the Headlights are turned on. Svc engg suspects issue with the switch-gear.
        3. The RPM sometimes gets stuck at 2K and doesnt return back to the the 1.2K idling. It returns only if I engage the clutch and get the bike moving.

I will be getting the bike delivered tomorrow. Hope the bill aint more!

Got the bike back from ASC. Total Bill amount Rs 1277 (Brake pads -Rs 440+120 and spark plug (Rs110) )

        1. The cause for the lights going dim was the Philips 55W bulb itself! Coil rewinding needs to be done for the 55W to glow. So i'm reverting back to the stock headlight
        2. The switch gear had no problem. The mech said he just cleaned it and now its fine.
        3. Carb cleaning and SAI O/H done (forgot what it was ) for issues with the RPM getting stuck.

I'm yet to take a long TD. I'll report back if I notice anything wrong!

EDIT : I googled for SAI. Its Secondary Air injector. The Svc engg said he got it cleaned and that cost me Rs 150

Thanks for the replyNo thermocol or tape was needed, the mechanic opened the headlight assembly and tighten all the screws, and it now everything's fine.
I searched in almost all shops for Shell Advance Ultra but invainShell are not marketing their product here properly,so had to stick to Veedol Super Swift 10w40.

My bad, by that post script my intent was to update all members as regards the engine oil i'll be using for my ride. It was not meant for you to try (at least for now, as it is good to first use a good SS oil before switching to FS, if you ever want, that is).

The one i suggested for you was the Motul 5100 4T 10W40. I think it's clearer now.

You say they are not interchangeable but still SVC put one? Usually, you can use another sprocket, but you may just need to get the new ones matching sprocket holder too.
I've used the P180s 15T front sprocket and its sprocket holder, but again as the acceleration dropped off big time reverted back.
That raises another question. 13T should increase your acceleration....

Yes, dropping a tooth from the front sprocket should improve acceleration. However, there 'd a drop in the top-speed. Well, in my case, I don't know what's going on?!!
I did talk to the fellow in-charge of the showroom. However, he started giving all lame excuses, nevertheless he wasn't rude. So, I just let it go and bought myself a 14T.
I have TVS Apache RTR 160 and 180 internal training manuals (Downloaded from some site. Don't remember.) meant for the mechanics. It clearly says not to use 13T for 180.
BTW, was there any increase in the top-speed with 15T?

PS: Is there any possibility for me to upload and attach(Make it sticky!) it to the thread itself so that everyone can see?

Yeah, its not good to be changed from stock, coz the bikes characteristics is very much affected!!
With 15T the speeds were achieved at a lower rpm in same gear. But to actually test the top speed was not possible since it takes ages and ages to reach there. I'd need atleast a 10km st stretch to do that
Reverted to stock and everything good..

                      • From TVS Apache RTR 180 internal training manual

                        An update:
Replaced the 13T Engine sprocket with a stock 14T. Had to adjust the chain tension since, it was tighter after plonking-in the 14T. The bike feels smoother and revvy than before. Vibrations have come down.
Apache7305's ready for a Sunday blast on the East Coast Road.

                        • Guys, took my bike for a spin after some 15+ days, so it gave a bit of trouble starting it (the usual I guess) but noticed something else too. Don't know if it was there before those 15 days too or not but I made me to worry about it. What could've caused it? Don't tell me that the seals are gone

                          • Apache 180

Hello everyone! After being a silent reader of xbhp for many months, I am introducing myself now.
My name is Chirag Sharma and I live at Kurukshetra, Haryana. I think I maybe youngest here. Here's my story (Warning: lengthy)

It was April, 2011. I wanted an R15 and my parents agreed to buy me that but said It'll take time. But later, due to not having enough amount, I was told to select a bike within 70k . We were going to buy on finance and as soon as I select "which bike I want". I thought there were only two good bikes i.e. R15 and pulsar 180 because I had only ridden pulsar 180 of my friend. Didn't realise there are other bikes like Apache and Karizma. Now there came two options: Pulsar 180 and Pulsar 150. Pulsar 150 was in my budget (around 69k onroad) so I chose that. Now I told about my decision to my pulsar 180 friend and he was like-"are you mad?". He said Pulsar 180 is only 3k more than that 150 and is much better overall. I rethink my decision and told my parents that I want pulsar 180. They said 150 is better as it'll give better mileage. I said I don't want mileage, rather I'd like the extra power. They easily agreed to buy me a 180. I was like wow! Now I was telling about my bike to my friends. [(1st friend, 2nd friend): so as not to get confused]
I told to my 1st friend on phone:- Me: Hey, What do you think about pulsar 180? HE: Great bike! Are you buying? ME: Yes. It's a good decision na? HE: Yes and it's much better than Apache 180. ME: (in mind: what Apache 180? but as he said pulsar is better so) Yeah it looks and preforms better. Ok bye!
Then told to my 2nd friend on phone:- Me: Hey, pulsar 180 or apache 180. HE: Pulsar 180, of course. Me: Yeah I've just finalized on that. HE: Great! ..[Now his friend took the phone from him].. His friend: Don't buy pulsar 180, it's too common. Apache 180 has much better pickup. Me: (in mind: what's pickup? Since I had ridden pulsar 180 and loved the power so) but I don't like apache's looks. His friend: Apache looks much better in white. Me: But I'm buying the pulsar 180. ..[My friend took the phone now].. He: Hey, pulsar looks much better. Buy that! ME: Yeah definitely, bye!
Now It was 95% pulsar and 5% apache for me. So we got the cheque of pulsar 180 from bank for the finance and we already had the quote which was around 72k on road. Now I asked my parents how's Apache 180. They said "Bad company (TVS), bad mileage and bad engine, bad resale value and bad everything." I was like .
But Apache was in my mind and I thought that I am making a wrong choice. So what I did was sms my 10 friends which include my pulsar 180 friend. I wrote in sms: Pulsar 180 or Apache 180. And the result was: 9 votes for apache and just 1 vote for pulsar and that also by my pulsar friend.
Now I was in a big confusion. I asked my parents if I can get a test ride of apache before they make payment for pulsar as I don't want to regret later. I also told them that I don't like apache and won't change my decison but still. They said, "Yes, why not. Let's go".
Then we went straight to TVS showroom and asked about the test ride. They readily accepted as if they were waiting for me. They gave me a yellow 180. I sat on bike to get the feel but didn't like the sitting position at first but I felt it's much much lighter than pulsar. I asked my mom how I'm looking on bike. She said,"You look much better on pulsar". Then I took a ride and while riding, I was trying to convince myself that pulsar is much better than this but I couldn't because of the prefect handling, excellent pickup, great exhaust note and biggest reason being it lighter than pulsar. When I came back after the ride, my mom was looking at me and said It looks beautiful when it's moving and asked me to buy this bike. I was like," You stole my words, mom!" I am buying this bike. There was no white apache in showroom and yellow was looking hot. I asked them if they can arrange the white one. They said that white one will be here on monday (It was wednesday). I came back home but didn't want to wait. So I thought let's buy yellow. It looks cool. But again thanks to myself , I did sms poll again. I wrote Apache 180: white or yellow? and the result was 8 for white and 2 for yellow. So I waited till monday and bought white apache 180 on 21 april 2011 which costed me 73,400 INR OTR excluding number (including no: 76k).
That's how I got myself an Apache and I am loving it. Thank you for reading.

Wow Bro, nice write up there. Enjoyed every bit of it. Yeah, the pearl white shade is really cool to look at and the paint quality, top notch.

It too was given exactly the same choice back in Jan-Feb 2010. The budget as well as the rides. Got it right like you did.

Wow, what a turn of events in selection of a bike!!

I believe you are new to the world of biking, so stick around and will gain a lot about bikes and yes, the Apache too. Slowly you will come to realize about the uniqueness of the Apache, there's nothing like it in that price range. The only other bike which would better it in raw appeal would be the KTM.

                                And Welcome to xBhp!!
