Acc. cable got cut at around 15k on ODO. Rode back home by setting the idle rpm to 5k

Clutch cable is still fine at 20k. Will change it soon just to be safe.

These cables are not really dependent on riding styles. Atleast it should last 10k. But recently many had to change clutch cables very frequently, maybe the TVS spare quality has degraded.

    • I feel that the cable becomes a bit rough before breaking, did you guys felt anything like that?. The clutch cable costs rs 131, part no: N9170250.

Well my acc. cable went kaput on 21k odo...

Well btw guyz today morning I had fit a new front mudguard after the stocks were damaged..
After the change Im feeling my ride so bumpy..
I have never felt the roads that much bumpy these many years..
        What might be the reason??
Is it problem with the shock absorbers??

Well, I didn't notice any difference in the smoothness of the cable.. it broke when I was riding at 60 kmph in a road with a lot of traffic. It was 8pm, luckily I found an automobile store near me, changed it my self. My advice, change your clutch cable
Every 3k kms irrespective of condition..

          • My Apache RTR 160 was hit by another bike at back exactly on the exhaust, from that day i am getting unusual sound from the exhaust, i checked with the svc, they just tighten some screws near the engine and said it as fixed, but still i don’t get the old sound of the RTR. I get the odd sound near the joint where the exhaust tube connects the engine.

One more issue my bike is lagging a lot when I drive as couples, I don’t see the lag when I drive single. What could be the issue?

            • RTR does lag a bit when it comes to riding with pillion..
Remember, RTR is riders bike & meant to be ridden single to explore the beast in it...
Anyway regarding the exhaust pay a visit to some other SVC centers or insist the same center guys to rectify it.
When they call for the feedback, say you are not happy, if the problem persist...

              • First of all let me say thanks to 0mnipresent I forgot to say thanks last time when you help me.

                ODO - 750km

I just want to share my short time experience with my beast with you and especially for those who complain about vibs.

I was having a hell of a vibs and noices when I got delivered my bike but I didn't do anything, I completed my partial(or may call important) run in period of 500 km under 50 km speed and also babied my bike, After my first service my bike was very better than early condition like a very good amount of vib got reduced also noices, accelaration became super smooth n powerful, so if you are in runnin in period expect worst vibs/noice but never worry it'll reduce to a greater extent after first service.

How my beast become super Noiceless/Vibless (I don't know whether it works for you or not but give it a try, Recommended for those who's in break in period)

Here are the things I've done to reduce noice/vibs and amazingly noice/vibs reduced by 70% !!!

1.) When you start your beast in the morning keep it in neutral idling for 10-25 secs at that time just give it very small revs. (To get engine temp and oil temp to operational levels, for the circulation of oil to all engine parts)

2.) Drive your first 5 mins under 4 rpm with gentle acceleration.

3.) As of my beast in run in period I used to ride under 4.5 RPM, but I take my beast at night(because I had all the runs in the day time and engine will be in perfect operational condition) and ride it using following method which is,

3.1) Gear shifts should be @ 4.5 RPM

3.2) Make use of minimum and maximum speed(within 4.5 RPM) in every gears

                3.2)Gradual increase of acceleration only.

After doing this for 1 day from next day on my beast become super super butter smooth, superb accelaration and smoothness, as I've said before 70% reduced noice/vibs. I'll upload a you tube video of my beast to show it's smoothness and noiseless performance soon.

I just want to share what I found here and I'm not a pro in all these areas so pardon my mistakes and point out if you think if there's anything not good here.

Do this only after first service, till 500km try not to cross 4 RPM.

                • The exhaust manifold 'packing' would be damaged. Get it replaced by a local mech. The max weight allowed on the rtr is 135kg. Which is quite low too. So with pillion don't expect the same response

Take it to a welding shop, they would remove the silencer and weld it. Once refixed, the noise should come down!

All 150-160 cc bikes have this low acceleration feeling when loaded.

What's to be welded? He did not mention any cracks anywhere. Usually is the manifold packing getting compressed excessively and leaking. Replacing it should fix it.

I had got the ring that attaches the silencer to the engine welded three times on my splendor. Due to over heating small holes would develop beside that ring and would start making weird noises. I was suspecting that the silencer has got mis-aligned at that joint, but if its ok, there is something else to be taken care of.

Oh. But welding such load bearing small components is not a fool proof solution. Hmmm

Isn't 3k & 3.7k km too early for a cable failure? Are they making the cables from jute? :-D

In 73k of ownership, I've changed the clutch cable thrice and accelerator cable twice.
Still carry around a spare of each on every long ride.

Lijo cheta, kinda OT here, but my ride is 3 years old, 63k done. Still running on stock cables, both clytch and acc. Why is it so important to carry a spare. If fixed properly, does it still run a risk of snapping ?

                                Cheers
