Lets see how much I get then. If its a small change then Im sure the problem is more into than just cleaning carb & air filter.
Also recently I changed the clutch plates & spark plugs. That too hasnt helped much in the mileage part.

@All
Well anyone know some reliable & trustworthy local mechanic in bangalore, where I can get my bike serviced and all???
TVS SVC will give perfect explanations but they are incomplete or have double meanings.. It mostly goes like this," Your route is filled with traffic", means that too many bikes in SVC & they can't give the required time for your bike.. & "We will do everything we can..", in other words, "we will do everything we can.. to keep getting your bike back to SVC in the shortest possible time.." The idea of TVS SVC is just to keep the service line moving & if a repair work need to be done, they just postpone the work by saying, "Next time you give for service we will fix it"..

I think you should get the tappets, time chain & carb. adjusted.. If the adjustment is wrong you will not get the optimum performance & FE..
If Ulsoor/Indiranagar area is possible.. There is a mechanic shop called "A-Z Mechanic shop" at the junction of CMH rd & Old Madras rd, just opposite to Adarsha Theater(Approximately Here:- http://goo.gl/maps/BimcX).. My friend gets his scooter & bike serviced/repaired here, from the time he moved to B'lore i.e, from 2002 or so..He recommends that mech & I think he does a pretty decent job.. I would have got my bike repaired there itself if I had more free time on week days..

• Engine oil leak from the head:

The solution to the engine oil leak was a simple fix but was expensive & pains taking.. Thanks to TVS SVC's "Minor repair" & "Rework",twice, the engine head was to be replaced..I visited a local mechanic who disassembled the engine in front of me & confirmed that the engine head needs to be replaced..
Here is a list of parts which were required for the fix:-
1.Guide CAM Chain- Rs151.
2.Gasket Cylinder Head- Rs143.
3.Tensioner CAM Chain-Rs126.
4.Three Bond-Rs30.
5.Nut tapet Adjustment-Rs78.
6.Other small components-Rs60.
7.Engine Head~ Rs 2500.
8.Engine oil,Shell AX7-Rs 350.
9.Spark plug-Rs 140

The bike had covered 25k km before the repair work..After repair ,I rode the bike for another 500km as in run-in & another 1000km,I tested the bike like crazy..I have noticed a few things:-
1.Shell AX7 SS is not that great..The performance of the oil during cold (18-20 deg C,outside) is terrible. During an over night ride the bike was struggling to attain 90kmph. But during the day the bike would easily do 115kmph on the same road.
2.For the first 500km of run-in style riding there was zero signs of oil leak.. Towards the end of the next 1000km slight damping around the head has started, that too after a ride of 350km @ 90-100kmph..
3.I've seen some fairly new RTRs running on stock oil & doing some seldom highway rides having damping around the head..A few of us had/have faced oil leaks after using Shell Advanced Ultra FS.. I've heard that the engine runs hoter on FS oil,If its true, I think I have got an explanation for these leaks..TVS uses a gasket maker called "Three Bond" which has a temperature rating of -40deg C to 150deg C BUT the engine runs beyond the 150 range.
4.After head replacement the bike has smoothened out & vibrations have disappeared.. The bike vibrates only in the range of 55-68kmph that too only in the handle bar & foot pegs.. The bike is supper smooth all the way till 118kmph(after which,I'v not yet tried).
5.Now the bike is returning a constant 41-42kmpl @90-100kmph ridding & 44-46 @75-85 kmph ridding.

Even after ~Rs5000, there is oil damping around the engine head.. Now I'm going to replace the Three Bond gasket maker with Anabond 666T or with one of ABRO's gasket maker or any other gasket maker with higher temperature range..
VinayakVerma ,after seeing the pics, the mechanic told me that your bike's gasket/packing needs to be replaced.. BUT he was not too sure & told me that his diagnosis may not be right & he needs to open the engine to confirm..
shahbaz63 & Vinayak, If you need to change the gasket, I think you should use Annabond 666T or ABRO's gasket maker as TVS SVC uses Three Bond which has a very low temperature rating.. If you can wait, I will be shifting to 666T or ABRO' Gasket maker over the next week or two & will give you a proper feed back..

Greetings, Tribe Members.

my MENACE has done 15500 kms. i got it serviced at 15k ,got the chain sprocket, spark plug and brake pads replaced.
got motul 300v after draining castrol power 1.
now after 500 kms there is an annoying clicking sound which my friend pointed out as knocking because of the loose tappets.also the engine is running hot lately with lots of vibrations creeping in very early at the RPM range.

should i drain the 300v and go back to castrol power 1 or should i fix the tappets and see for other 500 kms??

Hey, welcome to xBHP. If you're looking at semi synthetic, try Veedol Superswift 10W40. Even though I haven't tried it personally, I have heard it's good for RTR from a few owners. Otherwise, get Shell advance AX7. It's decent but you may experience some problems posted in a few posts above. You can go for Shell advance ultra fully synthetic, but be aware of the evaporation problem and check the oil level once in 500 km or so. Searching will give you more results regarding the oil. WRT the headlights, you'll need to get your RTR converted to full DC if you need to run anything above 35W or a HID. For stock 35W bulb, you can try the one Adarsh_Bk posted a few pages back.

Shahbaz, If it is just a problem with packing & an oil leak just because of gasket then, Anabond 666T(~Rs250) or ABRO gasket maker (would cost less than Rs500) & mechanics charges would be less than Rs500..So, you should get the leak fixed within Rs1000..
If something else is wrong, it would be expensive both in terms of money & time..

I'l get you the review as soon as I get the gasket changed & clock a few kms on odo.. I shall be reverting back to Shell Advance Ultra FS 10w40 as SS oil needs to be replaced within a month of my riding..

Hey tribals back to update you guys on my bike. Things that have been done to curb that sound that was coming from, I dont know which part of the engine.
1)Valves were slightly bent, resulting in stalling of the bike - Rectified.
2)Valve Springs - Changed.
3)Piston and bore - Cleaned.
4)All gaskets changed - Still oil leaks.
5)Timing chain : Changed.

Still the sound is there. So getting 4-wheels as my profession asks me to save my equipments from rain, dirt etc etc. Dropping the idea of Orange (money issue), will get the engine overhauled soon from KRP, need to discuss this with them.
Things to be changed :
1) Need to get michelin/irc for both front and rear.
2) New battery needed.
3) Removing HID to get Osram fitted in projector.

All these things have to be done by Jan as in May , I am getting Leh'ed and most probably in September would do solo Delhi-Mumbai-Delhi.
