120 size hardly makes any difference in fuel economy. I have a 120/80-17 Zapper Vyde and it has good grip in almost all road conditions. Now I am considering dual purpose tyres like CEAT vertigo (120-80-17) as I have started enjoying off roading too ;D

I think the local mech was right, the tappet adjustment interval is 5k kms so the SVC wont bother to touch it Are you really sure it is not the normal tappet noise? You can try DIY, if you are confident enough (Hope you have seen the DIY thread here in xbhp, its very informative), but it will still take lots of time. I did it twice myself and was really tired and frustrated both times in the end, though I successfully managed to do it

Will find a guy in svc who knows much, and get it done by him....
also what are the symptoms of badly tuned carb.... ?
i read somewhere it was white smoke from exhaust, carbon deposits on exhaust, is it correct ? and any other symptoms ??

For me, the bike would be fine for around 5 mins after starting (cold engine) and then the sound would change as if it has K&N air filter And the bike would rattle more than usual. I dont know how the bike sounds with K&N, but mine sounds heavier than stock and less refined.

The culprit is the engine foundation bolts being loose. Just get it tightened and I am sure this issue will be solved. I wonder how did the SVC guys say it was fine!!

Which bolts exactly..? pics would be really helpful

This is most probably due to dirty air filter. Just see if it has become black. You can try to clean it yourself (There is a DIY thread in xbhp, please search ) or you can get a new air filter which should cost around 120.
Wow pleased to hear that, i am not the only one facing this issue and that its isnt a major issue . Also i gave a look at the DIY threads and to be frank, i am not messing with anything, let the svc guy handle it xD.
thanks adarsh really helpfull, and thx for the price quote too *thumbs up* .

Glad to be of help buddy! SVC ppl will know what engine foundation bolts are.. anyways, you can find the pics in this post http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post905550 And yes, in my case, it was sounding lot less refined.. mainly when you let go of throttle and rpm is around 4k.

And you mentioned that only rpm meter fluctuates between 6k-7k, so does it mean the bike was smoothly going ahead at same speed & there were no jerks?? (Then it is the tachometer needle issue )

Cleaning the filter is one of the easiest DIY that I did, might go for GS150's filter now.

If I am not wrong :
          Black Smoke : Carb Issue
White Smoke : Piston / Valve issue

Please check whether you are running lean or rich, check the color of the tip of your spark plug.

            Nooooooo! Dont go for it!

I forgot to mention my experiences with it.. here goes..

I had tried the GS150R's air filter since it was a direct fit. All was fine in city, sub 6k rpm riding... The bike would sound slightly different.
I had a solo trip planned that time and went ahead with this filter the next day.. Big mistake!

At highways, the bike wasnt crossing 7k rpm! I couldnt even reach 100kmph! I was doubting something else was wrong in my bike and my mech suggested me to check the air filter. The GS filter comes with a plastic flap like thing and after removing this, it would go upto 120 with lots of vibes.. riding at lower speeds were fine though.. Had to do my entire trip with that filter and changed to stock the moment I came home..

So yes, nothing beats a stock air filter!

So the bike doesnt pops any coloured smoke from exhaust. Will check the spark plug and update later !

The recommended oil grade is 10W30,so,you better stick to the "10" & vary the "30", if more lubrication is required.. As you use(ed) "15"&"20" the viscosity during cold start is very high.. Bring back the 15/20 to 10 & you won't face any starting issues..
Give Shell Advance series a shot..

Go throught the Engine oil thread to gain more knowledge..

                          Cheers..!!

If xWy is the series, it always good to have lesser x value for colder conditions & higher y value for hot conditions.
So if you reduce your 15Wy to 10Wy series it will help during cold start.
Go for Shell Advance AX7 10w30 semi-synthetic oil if you have crossed around 7000+ km in your odo.
