My friend's RTR refresh clocked 50k on stock tires and yes it was without rear disc brakes.
And lets not get into disc brake - tyre life debate. To each his own.

Apache 180 has 108 watt alternator(from many people in and out of xbhp)?
But in the manual it is written as 90watt generated? Can someone confirm whether 108 or 90?

Hi prateek, Any other fix for foot peg other than welding or do need to change frame attached to it ?

        Thanks

When you turn on the ignition.. press both the mode as well as set button simultaneously for a few seconds (5 - 10 sec).. it'll get reset.

Sorry for the of-topic posts by me...

Anyways, about ABS and EBD. I think they are coupled so that more breaking power is distributed to front than rear to prevent rear tire from locking up. Though coupling them is more efficient on cars, I suspect EBD is employed in ABS system in bikes too.
I had read that post. but, it couldn't clear my doubt.

Electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD or EBFD), Electronic brakeforce limitation (EBL) is an automobile brake technology that automatically varies the amount of force applied to each of a vehicle's brakes, based on road conditions, speed, loading, etc. Always coupled with anti-lock braking systems, EBD can apply more or less braking pressure to each wheel in order to maximize stopping power whilst maintaining vehicular control.[1][2] Typically, the front end carries the most weight and EBD distributes less braking pressure to the rear brakes so the rear brakes do not lock up and cause a skid.[3] In some systems, EBD distributes more braking pressure at the rear brakes during initial brake application before the effects of weight transfer become apparent.
              How ABS works

Under heavy braking, vehicle wheels may lock-up. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) monitors wheel speeds and releases pressure on individual wheel brake lines, rapidly pulsing individual brakes to prevent lock-up. During heavy braking, preventing wheel lock-up helps the driver maintain steering control. Modern ABS has an individual brake line for each of the four wheels, enabling different braking pressure on different road surfaces. For example, less braking pressure is needed to lock a wheel on ice than a wheel which is on bare asphalt. If the left wheels are on asphalt and the right wheels are on ice, during an emergency stop, ABS detects the right wheels about to lock and reduces braking force on the right wheels, helping to avoid lock-up and loss of vehicle control.
              How EBD works

As per SAE - Buschmann et al. "The job of the EBD as a subsystem of the ABS system is to control the effective adhesion utilization by the rear wheels. The pressure of the rear wheels is approximated to the ideal brake force distribution in a partial braking operation. To do so, the conventional brake design is modified in the direction of rear axle overbraking, and the components of the ABS are used. EBD reduces the strain on the hydraulic brake force proportioning valve in the vehicle. EBD optimizes the brake design with regard to: adhesion utilization; driving stability; wear; temperature stress; and pedal force."
EBD may work in conjunction with ABS and Electronic Stability Control ("ESC") to minimize yaw accelerations during turns. ESC compares the steering wheel angle to vehicle turning rate using a yaw rate sensor. "Yaw" is the vehicle's rotation around its vertical center of gravity (turning left or right). If the yaw sensor detects more/less yaw than the steering wheel angle should create, the car is understeering or oversteering and ESC activates one of the front or rear brakes to rotate the car back onto its intended course. For example, if a car is making a left turn and begins to understeer (the car plows forward to the outside of the turn) ESC activates the left rear brake, which will help turn the car left. The sensors are so sensitive, and the actuation is so quick that the system may correct direction before the driver reacts. ABS helps prevent wheel lock-up and EBD helps apply appropriate brake force to make ESC work effectively and easily.

              .
So EBD requires single line oil distributing system. In bikes, I don't think so.
In slippery roads, or at high speeds, back wheel may lock & skid even with ABS ; I think
That may be the reason for the accident which I had quoted earlier.

I had stated that opinion by my personal experience. It may be false positive.
but still I am sure about it (personally )

Anyhow I am withdrawing my opinion. and no more arguments.

hello im in a bad situation my rtr has done 29700kms and i had bought it in 2010 oct. During my last service i had changed my clutch plate and when the mehcanic was changing the oil he said ur oil level is very low, this time i generally checked my oil level and it was below low. there are no fumes coming from the exhaust nor do i see any leakage what could be the reason for this plus its not even been 3000kms since my last service please help i dont want to see the bike ceased.....

Which oil are you using, have you changed the oil brand. Summers do have its effect on the oil level.

If not already done, get the Engine head cleaned/ decarbed and change the valves.

Got my bike checked at siddhivinayak motors goregoan regarding my engine oil evaporating, they checked my sparkplug and it had some oil on it and told me that the block piston needs to be changed. My bike has clocked 29700kms till now bought on 27/oct/2010 i have changed my left rear shock absorber and my clutch plate, i even realised that the metal from the clutch plate housing was chipping off weird for something like that to chip off. my brother has an rtr bought on the same day as mine clocked similar kms and his clutch bearing had to be changed for which he had to open the whole engine one small bearing. what im tring to say here is even after maintaining the bike with the service center riding it sanely getting an average of 50kms per litre , how can my block piston needs to be changed its either that the quality is not good or i dont know how to ride but so many issues in two bikes bought on the same date is nothing by chance. I really now feel the quality of the product is not good and i feel bad that i have convinced 3 people who have bought apache rtr because of me. I request you all to atleast raise your concern to the company regarding any issue you are facing or if you could atleast acknowledge my issue to them on mail ids that i would attach right now. Im not fighting for free replacement but i need people from the company to come forward and have a look at why their part failed because if i dont do that sub standard parts will still be supplied to the company and eventually to the customers. Im a die hard tvs fan rtr breed is something that makes me proud and now i just want the company to come forward and see why people are facing issues and atleast change the quality standards so i and others will be loyal to tvs for their quality and engineering. I hope people will support me and just put a mail to the company saying that you support quality and that is every individuals right. Thanks alot. Bhavin Hirani

Start using thick oils like Pulsar 20w40 or 20w50 DTSi oil in your bike and see if the problem exists.. The default TVS oil is too thin for the bike. It is not a very refined bike. Use oils which other non-refined bikes like pulsars, enfields use.

Piston ! So soon? Aint possible unless you were riding without engine oil. I guess the prob is with the mech who did your head cleaning job. He should be the real culprit. He did the job 3K-4K kms before and couldnt detect a possible piston issue? Time to thrash the Mech and change the asc.
With the bike outof warranty, I dont think the higher authority would listen(I havnt tried, may be someone else can help you in this). But do try and show how serious the issue is.
