Re: Apache RTR 180 Bike issue
You mean to say from the exhaust pipe that comes from the engine (bend pipe) towards the exhaust, it is absolutely normal for that part to heat up. You are saying that problem came up after the service people adjusted the bolts?Originally posted by hemnath View PostIs the heat (visible) from the engine near the exhaust joint is normal, or is it the cause of the issue. Please give some advice, as i am a novice, and my SVC is not helping me.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
The chain and sprocket costed me 900 something approx..For exact amount go back a few pages..I have posted it somewhere..Originally posted by susheelkumar View PostHey guyz..any idea whats the price for complete chain-set change? By complete I meant, front sprockets+rear sprockets+chain...
Also I would like to know how much it would cost for decarbing engine..I'm fed up with the mileage part as I'm getting below 40kmpl in RTR-160 even though I havent done any insane riding & most of my riding is between 4.5k to 5.5k rpm. Gear shiftings between 4~4.5k rpm.
I had tried a lot by cleaing carbs, air filters & all, but still the problem persists...Mine is just 23k+ in odo..
Will this decarb solve the mileage issue?? Any idea regarding the cost & is it ok to open the engine this soon??
From what I know decarb is not necessary in modern engines, once in a while red lining will be enough to remove carbon deposits..
My rtr 180 is 26k now giving approx 43 with mild ripping,so yours should be more.
New spark plug, clean airfilter, correct tire pressure, chain might improve your mileage."Vibes transmitted from crank shaft to frame, then through the bearings of the head stock and into the stem where it meets the triple clamp and into the clip-ons where it is greeted with great pleasure by my hands"-ratfighter mod rtr

The exhaust can heat that is fine. I can see some fumes coming out near bend pipe towards the exhaust. - Is this normal.
I did not have the problem when the service people adjusted the bolts? this was way back 2 months before.
This problem started recently 2-3 weeks before and all happened after 4th service.Last edited by hemnath; 06-18-2013, 05:08 PM.

Thanks for the reply dude...Recently one of my friend who got his RTR-160-HE joeled, is also having the same mileage issue around 38kmpl...
it can never be carbon deposits in his case..so i feel the same might be case...also there is no guaranty these SVC guys will do it well..
so for now im thinking of changing the spark plugs & chain sprocket...im using iridium spark plugs for the last 13k kms...
Which one is better, the stock spark plugs(i guess Bosch) or the iridium spark plugs???---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
You bike has done 23k on ODO which means chain/sprocket and clutch plates may be worn out pretty much. I dont think there would be anything wrong with engine or that decarb is needed. Just get the clutch plate inspected once when you get the new chain/sprocket set. Worn clutch would reduce everything performance, fuel efficiency etc.Originally posted by susheelkumar View PostHey guyz..any idea whats the price for complete chain-set change? Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
thanks yaar...btw i have heard that if ur clutch plates are worn out then the speed u attain @ different rpm will reduce drastically...Is it right???Originally posted by Adarsh_Bk View PostYou bike has done 23k on ODO which means chain/sprocket and clutch plates may be worn out pretty much. when i bought my hyperedge I used to get 55kmph @ 4k rpm & 70kmph @ 5k rpm...
Now its hardly 66~67kmph @ 5k rpm...
How much does the clutch plates cost??---------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is a symptom of both worn clutch plate and chain/sprocket set. I think the clutch plate is not completely worn out or the speed @ specific rpms & mileage will reduce even drastically. I am sure if you change these two, your bike will be as good as new!
When I got my new chain/sprocket set the speed increased by 1-2kmph at 5k rpm, mostly due to more efficient power transmission to rear wheel.
I bought the new clutch plates for ~600 bucks. I have still not yet changed the plates, waiting for the next service..

Now I have got to get these things changed one by one in front of me, because I doubt whether they will really replace if given to SVC & might simply charge us along with service...
Anyway lets see how things shape up..last time when i went to svc they had told me to replace the chain set..I havent done it so far..maybe thats the biggest culprit..
How frequently do you change spark plugs?? & which one do you go for normally??---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Thanks. I'll get the cone set replaced... The brake light's activation point is just like what it was when the bike was new. It comes up with slight application of the front brake...Originally posted by Traveller01 View PostYour first issue of handle bar is due cone set. For your second issue check the suspension springs try to keep your forks clean. For your 3rd & 4th query first get your brakes top up (if needed) & bleed, there should never be any play in the brake lever. If the play still exists then may be your mechanic is right, What about your brake light due to the play? (brake switch). For the chain keep it clean, well lubed & rust free. Maintain vertical play around 1 to 1.5 inch & the chain won't give you any trouble.
Yeah. During emergency braking in tight traffic, it's kind of risky. But I'm used to it nowOriginally posted by vivekgautams View PostWow.. I was about to post about the same problem(s) but my brake oil level is much lower than your... The problem 3 & 4 appear to be serious & sometime real scary, especially when you have to pull half of the lever to start getting some brakes
... I read that the brake fluid/oil has to be changed after a year or so.. I'm thinking to change to a DOT4 & get a proper brake bleeding done..
My bike's chain would'nt get tightened..so, got the sprockets and chain changed, now no sound & no tension of chain snapping...
BTW, had your old chain developed zigzagness at the time of replacement?

I gave a complaint to TVS & they have asked me to bring the bike for inspection & repair.. Once the oil leak is fixed (fingers crossed
), I plan on changing the brake oil to DOT 4. That might improve the braking..
The chain was completely loose & it was touching the swing arm, it had uneven tightness & slag.. Now it has perfect tightness...

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
RTR's engine gets heated up with 1-2 min of idle only... How can you conclude that the bike is overheating..??Originally posted by hemnath View PostGuys, Need your suggestions. If you are running on F.S oil, then you can "feel" the engine heat on your legs.. & the bike being an air cooled engine, they tend to be hotter & cooling totally depends on the outside temp..
