I don't quite understand the above quoted, but if what I understand is correct ABS monitors both the wheels.

Sorry to hear about the other guy who is dead now. May his soul RIP. Anyways, I dont think any bike would come to a full halt from 100 KMPH in 4 secs. The first two seconds will take up the identifying and reaction steps and only after the 1st second do we start to apply brakes. Since the ABS is supplemented with rear wheel lift-off protection we can slam the brakes but still I dont think we can come to a full halt from a 100kmph in 4 secs.

Yes, I've stopped my bike from 80 kmph in less than 4 secs, as I use all possible measure to lessen my reaction time. I've felt the ABS working fine leaving me and the other guy(s) unscathed. One such incident happened recently. But, I've at times felt the need to swerve away while slamming the brakes at speeds upwards of 90 as the bike may not stop with in the short distance, but gives you enough time to swerve away from the obstacle to a neutral point as the wheels are not locked up, thus giving you some traction to move around. That's why they say in their manual to be always mindful of the surroundings and scan the road ahead before you make a move.

And of course you can effectively reduce the stopping distance if you apply both the brakes at once.

Hello xbhpians , i am a newbie to this forum but am a proud biker. I dont know if this is the right place to ask, please guide me. I have recently book a new apache rtr 180 (could not afford the 10k for abs as am still a student). I would be getting it on 24th as the dealer didnot have stock. Have i made the correct decision. A new Bike for me is like starting a new life. Since, i have seen many niggles about vibarations , leakage etc on this forum. I just wanna know from you that these are nothing to worry about. I would be happy to know it. I hope apache gives me a new biking passion. Regards

          Hey..Congrats..!!
RTR is a great bike & it does come factory fitted vibrations.. The niggles come due to terrible TVS servicing...
Remember to keep the revs below 4-5k rpm for the run-in period(1000km)..Find your self a good mechanic, get the bike serviced at regular intervals, change over to a better engine oil after few services..Just maintain your bike & you'l not face any problems..
          Cheers..Ride Safe...!!

Welcome to the tribe, RTR is one hell of the puller in market under 1lakh ... I would recommend you to not tame it asap u sit on bike...

Start your bike & keep it idle for 2 minutes (min.)- 5 minutes and then start riding sanely, no sudden accelaration avoid pressing clutch every now & then, get a good riding gears. A Good Riding Gear improves Riding Skills & experience (Based on my personal experience), you get more confidence & you will be differentiated from normal people .

Ride Safe, Read my signature for RTR experience

Search "FAQ's by Prateek" for further more information....

he made more than 20 mts braking marks, but.....
                    He couldn't make it
Out of curiosity, what was that person thinking before going for those speeds?
Secondly, as mentioned 70%-30% use of front and rear will make the bike stop faster.

I have given my RTR 180 for service at several places till date. Started with the TVS service centres, my relationship with them did not last for long. I tried Bharath motors and SLV motors. Later on I tried a local mechanic, which was a decent experience, but I felt that he did put in some unnecessary billing to make some easy money. Lastly shifted to the Castrol bike zone at Banashankari where I have been giving for the last one year. Until recently, the quality of service was satisfactory. But in the last two services, I have seen them overcharge compared to other places and within a week of service the bike starts choking on problems.

So my question to you guys is: Where do you give your beloved beast for servicing? Maybe some of us could share our thoughts on this and help the others.

                        Regards,
                        Vijay
